I am in Northern USA, we get lots of snow in the winter. We also have special snow trains that have big scoops on the fronts to clear the tracks. Also ones with big snow blowers. Pretty cool to see one in action.

There are at least 4 in Switzerland and 2 in France: one in the Alps, one in the Massif Central (Lioran). Most of the time two diesel engines and two flat wagons with a snow plow are used.
The video below is from last month.

While you were filming this, it looked like the snow had been melting and it caused fog to form. Wet snow is easier to dispose than freezing dry snow. Snowfall in southern and central Japan usually do not stay around longer than the snowfall in northern Japan. The ice and snow generally takes longer to melt in North Japan because of the colder climate.

As a rail enthusiast, the lack of quality passenger rail in the US disappoints me too. On the positive side, the situation is as it is largely because the US decided to prioritize freight over passenger rail. The end result is that the US has extremely energy-efficient cargo transport (only ships are more efficient), but we mainly use cars and planes to move humans around.

Snow is such a beautiful thing, but it's one of the things I fear the most if I have to go outside. As someone who has bad balance and walks with a cane, snow is very difficult to get through and public transport often doesn't like it either. I'm hoping that snow season will be over when I'm traveling in a few weeks (not to Japan, sadly, just within Europe)

Don't forget earthquakes. A bullet train derailed due to earthquake in 2022 and it took them two weeks just to remove the train because they've never had one derail before. In Europe they drag them back onto the tracks in hours.

Sadly, we may see less of these express trains from Osaka once the Hokuriku Shinkansen extension from Kanazawa to Tsuruga opens in March 2024. Now, they could be assigned to a "Shinkansen relay" service from Osaka to Tsuruga like what JR East did from Tokyo to Omiya Stations until the early 1990's.

    English there:
The northern coast of Japan receives a lot of snow as the freezing, dry air from Siberia passes over the Sea of Japan. The air warms up a bit, but gains in humidity which creates the perfect conditions for the snow.
In addition, Japan in this area is crossed by the Japanese Alps and the valleys, including that of Fukui, are oriented North-South ... the clouds rush in, then remain blocked by the summits. They must then pass above giving lots of snowfall. This is the orographic lift

societies are created, if not then what you see of chaos mess projects unfinished, held back, delays, civic social resposbilities tossed over, and each group doing only for self benefitting them, when a good collective group comes as leaderships they deliver everything for everybody with respobsility undertaken completed on time or near time and more worried that things are managed well not eaten on the way, situations are contained and not out of control.
