    I think trying to stay behind Abaddon is best, as it gives you some advantages against all its attacks: the waterfall swarm and the 'U' swarm can be safely avoided by ducking in the corner, and the 3-line swarm as well (you saw that sliding under it didn't seem to work, but it's only because the locusts spread out after a bit, you can still duck under them on the side they come from); you can tell way in advance where the locusts will be coming from, since Abaddon won't face the other way once it's stopped to summon the locusts. The 'C' swarm isn't as easy to avoid, as staying behind Abaddon will put you right in front of the coming swarm, leaving you little time to jump away from it, but it's not impossible. The only big problem is if Abaddon decides to stand with its back on a wall ^^;

    Ready for the punchline? You missed the one tool you have to easily deal with the locusts: Julius's whip-spin.
    Barring that, not to be a broken record, but this is _the_ fight for "pause and think" tactics. Abaddon literally shows you his next move! Nothing stops you from taking a sec to plan your response. But no shame in rolling the dice till you get a good pattern either; that strategy is the lifeblood of low-level runs (which this basically is, since you're trying to avoid grinding).

      Yeah, the Julius attempts hurt to watch. Just seeing you try to go in with his very slow super move against a boss that requires you to react when all you had to do was attack and mash your dpad in circles.
      Yoko's got you brain rotted Nat. :P, still nice job on taking him down with Alucard!

      I always felt like pausing would be against the spirit of the fight. I'm happy enough using save states but I want to at least have to react to things in real time. I am *kicking* myself over forgetting the juilius whip state though.

      @@Natural20LP I understand that completely, pause buffering never even occurred to me when I played this as a teenager, it does somehow go against the spirit of things.

    I've been playing SOTN and you can watch videos of boss strategies in the game which is very cool. The developers used some really interesting tricks like using wolf transformation for i-frames.
    I wish more games had this kinda of feature including later castlevanias.

      That's genuinely a really interesting and cool idea. I think some of the fun is figuring out a boss for yourself but a reference that isn't a youtube video of someone using a strategy that completely annihilates the fight would be great.
