Wonderful stuff you do! The lick you describe starting around 6:30 is not only an example of Parker changes, it's also a quote from a popular song of the 30s/40s-"Every Street's a Boulevard in Old New York." That's probably why Brubeck gave Desmond the shout out. Sheer genius! Thanks for your excellent insights!
Yes! I did discover that right after making this video. Desmond is so genius in quoting, and the fact that these different changes on a blues mashed up so beautifully... that something Desmond could do like nobody else Thanks Jim! /Jorre
Hey Jorre of course you know I’m such a fan of you and Timothy and the channel! Your Paul Desmond transcription book is fantastic...this lick of the week is just an example. Thanks for this and the lessons. Love. Cy ❤️👍🏽🎷😷😎
and a qq (maybe this has been covered): what is the way to get access to the transcription book (and maybe other pdf) mentioned? I am seeing the option of joining through the Patreon page, youtube member, the edge effects website..
Hi, we're experiencing some legal issues when we were researching if it would be ok to sell the book. Lot's of people sell transcription Pdf's and books, but we got legal advice from a lawyer and it's not allowed with the right permissions. So long story short, we're trying to find a deal with a publisher and took it offline meanwhile. Anyway, all the Desmond solo's are seperately available through our Patreon, where we can put it legally because you are in first stance supporting the channel. But you are right, it seems a bit confusing from the outside (the edge effect website is because our business is called like that, Sharp Eleven Music is a smaller part of that). And the TH-cam membership is something we're now reviewing as not really working for us, because we can't uplaod pdf's there... We'll get everything sorted out, but the surest thing to get the pdf's for Paul Desmonds transcriptions (and there are coming more) is through Patreon. Anyways, thanks for reaching out, if there is any other question, let us know!
And by the way, yes, there is coming a lot more like this, transcriptions, breakdowns/analysis, some general sax/guitar stuf,... Subscribe and put the notification bell, there is a new Paul Desmond Lick Of The Week coming soon 😉
I enjoy your clear explanations and evident enthusiasm for Paul Desmond's music.
Thanks Dan!
I think Paul Desmond is a genius who isn’t valued enough! Nice video bro
I think exactly the same, thanks!

If you want to skip the fanboying and stories about Paul Desmond (and Charlie Parker) and want to go straight to the licks: 2:30
Great content. Your analytics are really informative and interesting to follow. Is there any long term plan for making more contents like this?
