You mean 'Lamb to the Slaughter'? Yeah, ever since I've seen the adaption of it done in 'Tales of the Unexpected' I've been wanting to see Alfred Hitchcock's version of it. I know he's also done 'The Man from the South' in both versions of 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents' which of course was also done in 'Tales of the Unexpected', still makes me surprised that Hitchcock never did 'Taste', Dahl's other story about an bet with ridiculous stakes.
I can understand WHY the husband was protective of his money. That's a lot even back then, of course. I think the hitman or guy who supplied the poison would have turned Alex in if they got into any trouble with the cops. I just don't think he would have gotten away with it.
$33,000 easily purchased a 3 to 4 bedrooms multi level house with a 2 car garage in the NYC suburban towns in 1959. $300,000 wouldn't do that now. Things are more expensive now than then.
My mother loved Dennis Day, he was great on the Jack Benny show, never heard any dirt on Dennis. He and his wife had 10 children. Dennis died too early of ALS at age 72 in 1988
I didn't know any of this about Dennis Day. I used to listen to old radio shows with my dad. Dennis was such a great singer. It was my favorite part of the show.
'I saw this one on TV once. A dame....She clobbered her old man over the head with a frozen leg of lamb.' Really cute - 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents' referencing one of its episodes in another. 😊
OMG! This episode explained a lot! There have been people knocking off their spouses and relatives for a long time! This cheap murderer killed her and profited twice! Did they ever catch him? 🤔 Alfred H. always kept us hanging!😯
@@helanesolomon1724 - In this episode, Hitchcock did. He said the man was caught and "paid the heaviest price, in his case a large fine." So he didn't go to jail. A large fine would have been a worse punishment 😉
Seems as if something is missing here. Husband didn't get his upcommance for the murder - all because of money. Usually the villain gets what is coming to them or Hitchcock tells us at the end that they didn't get away with it. Strange...
Don Moore I didn’t notice the description! I saw “Presents” had disappeared from streaming services and a couple of weeks ago I found Peacock. Wanted to share. :)
Women in the past cleaned their home very proudly. Marrying, having children was their role. Man…when I was growing up all the women were proud running a household. That’s not an easy job. Every kid in my neighborhood followed the rules of the Mrs!
How did the Dr know there was any ham left??? Dude said his wife at the leftovers… as soon as the Dr took it upon himself to go into his kitchen he should have said « I threw the rest of the ham out », it would have saved a lot of trouble
My aunt and uncle lived like two poor mice on almost nothing and every week they put their money in the bank, penny by penny. They both died in a short space of time leaving their 'fortune' to their son thinking that he would continue in their footsteps BUT he spent the lot !
Great episode and funny. The killer finally gets away with it and makes money too instead of getting ripped off by the mortuary. I thought that hitman might have been a cop on a sting. Since the husband was at the medical school I guess the medical school doesn't pickup so I guess he probably drove her there.😀 Wouldn't work these days. There's the lab report on the poisoned ham and the autopsy?
I laughed when this guy didn't want to kill his wife with a leg of lamb... because it's 59 cents a pound. It's anywhere from $16 to $35 a pound today, depending on the cut. Either way, in his time, it was danged cheap to beat someone to death with a leg of lamb.
@@terrav6983 He outright told her, of course she saw it like that. She just didn't care because her eyes rolled back in her head as soon as she saw a lump sum. If you're tired of counting pennies perhaps you should get a better paying job.
Dear friends, please know that Jesus Christ our Lord and our Savior, is The WAY, The TRUTH, and The LIFE! The greatest decision you will EVER make is welcoming Jesus Christ into your life right now!! I love how the killer mentions another Alfred Hitchcock production about the frozen leg of lamb. Lol
I know... lol. I watched that one as well..
Yea that was funny
One of my favorite episodes.
This guy brings cheap to another level
Dennis Day, comedian from Jack Benny's programs, is surprisingly quite a good actor
These shows are so perfect in this pandemic..I’m never tired of them
How about during " Bozo biden's hyper inflation catastrophe-???🤔
I love those old coffee pots.
What a delightful black comedy! Loved this.
The hitman's voice is crazy!
Lol leg of lamb, that was another Alfred Hitchcock episode with Barbara Bel Geddes
That was so so funny..eating the evidence.😄

You mean Mrs. Ewing from Southfork Ranch.
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed that fourth wall break.
Leg of lamb...I thought of that episode right away! Lol!!!
Only $500 to rub someone out? Danged inflation! It's nearly $20,000 now!
Wow! The husband only loved money. He had no love for his wife. These short films are outstanding!
$33,000 in 1959 (when this episode was broadcast) is $297, 427 in 2021
I can understand WHY the husband was protective of his money. That's a lot even back then, of course.
I think the hitman or guy who supplied the poison would have turned Alex in if they got into any trouble with the cops. I just don't think he would have gotten away with it.
Wow
I was told to estimate the amounts back then by adding a zero, so for 30,000, I'd guess about 300, 000...so I guess it works pretty good.

Thug has a beautiful voice.
His name was Jack Lambert. Yeah, he had a great voice. Had a long career playing heavies and cowboys.
Why no whole episodes? It drives me crazy!
Love love Hitchcock Presents. Watching this during pandemic is keeping me entertained.
Hitch a unique one of a king creative genius. His intro's themselves are a trip!
Me too!!!
entertained...

59 cents a pound
With Barbara Bel Geddes
Great episode!
I remember the leg of lamb episode one of my favorites 😅😅😅😅😅
left over ham or lamb??
Dennis Day, he also made appearances on the Jack Benny show. Had a great voice.
Don't let anyone who has been on Extreme Cheapskates see this. They will get ideas.
The episode is just a satirical take for "beyond being thrifty" Dennis Day brilliant!
They probably already have! Do you know how old this is? 🙄
OMG! This episode explained a lot! There have been people knocking off their spouses and relatives for a long time! This cheap murderer killed her and profited twice! Did they ever catch him? 🤔 Alfred H. always kept us hanging!😯
He took her to a medical school. They found the poison and that she was suffocated.
@@revk8611 Exactly and he went to jail for being cheaper 🤣.
DD BRILLIANT CHARACTER ACTOR. Made to order play for his performance. WOW!
What's wrong with putting aside money for your old age? I am presently enjoying a comfortable retirement because I planned for my old age.
I feel the same way you do.
🤣 Reminds me of my ex husband fr, still holds on to a shoebox of child support money order receipts & and our two children are in their mid forties!
😅
Haha maybe he will throw it in their faces.and say they owe him.when he's old.and needs care lol weird
I wonder if my ex-husband every destroyed the "file" he had on me with so-called incriminating information. Our kids are in their 30's.
I can relate. A friend is EXTEMELY CHEAP! A skinflint for sure. Got that from his mother!
I have a buddy who really IS this tight!
It’s hard to see Dennis Day being a Bad Guy after watching him on the Jack Benny Show.
A nice ending would be if they would find the true cause of death in the medical school. Rod Serling would have written it this way.
I'm sure they will find out and the husband will go to jail. Hitchcock never let anyone get away with murder, I don't think!
@@helanesolomon1724 He absolutely would. But they did not let him.
My guess is that that's exactly how this ended up. I don't think we're seeing the full ending of the episode here.

Odd that the doctor didn't send Jen to the hospital.
But then think of all the plot that wouldn’t have happened!
That's ( Television Land )
That music at 6:30 ... like it's supposed to portray sweet relief .
When he talks about the Dame clubbing her old man that was an actual Hitchcock episode with Barbara Bel Geddes.
LOL@ reference to the lady hitting the man over the head with a turkey leg This was actually a plot in Alfred HItchock.
Under 12 minutes????!!! Didn’t they show the whole thing? Why not? There are other scraps of shows on here too. Show the whole thing!
Yes!
500$ for a murder? An absolute bargain. Even assuming money was worth 10 times then what it is now 5000$ is nothing for a professional hit.
Interesting/entertaining. Enjoy viewing 👀 those kitchen appliances from that era🤗.
Brilliant stuff. Fabulous music BTW. So atmospheric illustrative and comical

What?😑
Old school best spring cleaning &/or just had an upright vacuum.
She said she was dusting.

A frozen Leg of lamb as a murder weapon goes back to a D H Lawrence story
LOL.....got out of paying funeral expenses and a burial plot 160 dollars vs. 75 dollars that the College gave him for poor Jennifer! XD

Not believable. 8:30 The doctor would have recommended the hospital.

They didn't really have Hospitals back then that were affordable! That is why the Doctor made a house call!
Its just A Movie, its Hitchcock, just enjoy it .

Very little chance of living and she is not in the hospital. The old days
