Seriously guys, 31 thumbs down? Who is hating on a genuine, honest and loving family video featuring father and a son sharing precious time together exploring the night skies? Two thumbs up to both guys for taking time to post this video. Please keep up the good work and ignore the naysayers. I just bought he same binoculars and struggled with similar issues you guys ran into -shakiness even with a sturdy tripod, failure to take photo with iphone w/o the adapter but it seems even with the adapter you had difficulty taking a photo. But that's a small glitch. On my first use yesterday and with lot of light and fog pollution, I enjoyed seeing the half moon!! Those craters look awesome!!!! These nights, Moon, Jupiter and Saturn are lined up over the horizon right after sunset. I couldn't get Jupiter in focus and only shows as bright point with Saturn in same FOV. I didn't see any Jupiter moons but it also could be due to brightness of the moon. I recommend using 'Sky View Lite' free iphone app to see what's visible in your area.

@@2dudesastronomy40 so I just bought these binoculars to see neowise the comet and I just wanted to say I really appreciate that y'all got on here and said what you can actually see because that was one of my biggest concerns I didn't want to spend a whole bunch of money on something that wasn't going to be able to see anything but the fact that you can even remotely see other galaxies is amazing I can't wait for night time

I've been using the 15x70 for a number of years now. The collimation was off recently so I had to realign them, easy enough procedure. They're great for grab and go but a tripod is a must if you want a stable view.

Good job guys. One thing that everyone who uses binoculars for astronomy should know is the concept of exit pupil. To find your exit pupil, take the second, bigger number (the objective size), and divide it by the first, smaller number (the power). So, for example, in a pair of 10x50 binoculars, your exit pupil is (50 / 10) = 5, or 5 millimeters.
So what does that tell you? It will give you the relative image brightness when looking at faint objects. When your eyes adjust to the dark, your eyes' pupils really only open to about 7 mm at the most. So binoculars with exit pupils of 7 mm will provide the most light gathering power for faint objects (like 7x50's). When looking at bright objects, it's ok to trade image brightness for power, and use something with less of an exit pupil (like a 10x50 or 12x50). Hope this helps!

Really nice video guys - both enjoyable and useful. I have been having this same type of problem for years as many, many people have asked me to show them what you can see through binoculars, and not only for astronomy, but general use. The problem is, no matter how good my camera and digiscoping setup is, I never get it to produce the same level of quality and detail that you see with your eyes when looking through the instrument. You have not uploaded a video in a while - hope all is well and good with you and that you are safe in these crazy times - anything in the pipeline?

My first one had issues. Chiefly being that the ring holding the objective lense was skewed and I could not get a clear view. The replacement set is actually great for the low price. It was missing the plate for the adapter. However I built my own super heavy duty tripod so don't really need it. I couldn't see paying more for a tripod than the binoculars cost. I tried a low cost Amazon basic tripod but it could not hold the binoculars still. Even the slightest breeze cause the view to be useless.

@Military Dove Hi! Yes! Last night I did manage to see Saturn's ring. It's very small but you can see it. Also you can see Jupiter's 4 gallilean moons and make out some of the different colors on the surface. You just have to have patience and adjust it to the right focus. And try to set it on a tripod so it doesn't move. Give your eyes and the binocular some time to adjust to the darkness after you set it up. I haven't yet looked for nebulaes but planning to soon. Also note, I live in Houston where the light pollution is pretty bad so to be able to catch all those with a binocular was beyond impressive to me.

Hey, thank you both for this! I have a few questions:
-Is this way too heavy to use without a tripod?
-I noticed that even with the tripod, it was shaking; is it the case that it doesn't hold fast enough with the adapter?
-Would you recommend this for a beginner? Or do you find that something slightly lighter and easier to handle would be better?
From personal experience I feel that writing reviews almost immediately after purchase is not always the best, because certain things only become clearer with time. So I am very curious about your experience so far and I would really appreciate your honest feedback!
P.s. At first thought you were brothers or cousins. It's so cool that you are father and son.

Thanks for watching! They are heavy and will get tired of holding them but they are way more sturdy on a tripod. They do shake a bit but for the most part they are great. I keep them on my counter and use them to scan the sky when i let the dogs out. I probably use these more than anything else because they are so high quality and easy to use. Also by using 2 eyes instead of one with a telescope you get a bigger view of the sky and makes finding things easier to find. I cant recommend them enough!

Even with phone camera one can extract details in tiny visible celestial objects like Saturn and Jupiter. Adjust ISO setting and try that... Cloud bands of Jupiter should be visible.

Thank you. This is a very informative and peaceful video. ..i just bought these binoculars 3 days ago but the vision gets quite shaky..and how can I recognize the Andromeda galaxy?? Also, is the tripod absolutely necessary to keep the equipment?

Thanks for watching!! Andomeda is going to look like a faint cloud in the sky. Almost like a smudge. The tripod will save your arms as these binos can get heavy!! The tripod will also keep your spot when you find something!

because 15x70 binoculars have a greater angle of vision and the image is more stable, although it also depends on the tripod you use,
