Well it might be only 9.000 cheaper in the UK. But over here in The Netherlands the RS3 is over 30.000 more expensive than the Cupra R! (85.000 vs 55.000) That changes things quite a bit..
I've been driving Cupra ST for about 3 years, I love its reliability, fuel consumption and the thrill with all the most sporty settings on. The TSI engine has enormous potential....my 280ps version had 306ps and 380nm on the dyno STOCK! Love it...RS3 has the sound though...
I’ve just staged 2 mine it produced 372bhp and 540nm it’s a real beast I asked the torque to be capped at 520nm instead and I eat a lot of high end cars for breakfast lunch and dinner 😂

KungFührer I've got an S3...and I've been in a few Cupras...the interior on the S3 is MUCH nicer..they (S3 & RS3) do need the Supersports seats though. I think if you spend quite a lot of time in your car the Audi makes you feel more content. Driving wise the Audi's also need the optional adjustable dampers..Audi's, love 'em...but hate the options list!😁

Loliipopis I'd agree...except it works really well and the MMI is a different league to ny previous car a Porsche Macan S. The fact that it's not a touch screen and functions can be moved or combined with the drivers display makes it amazing to use on the move...plus no more fingerprints all over your screen! The TT gets by with the same setup...without the centre screen..and is still hailed for its ease of use.
I think the Leon is the most beautiful estate out there. That's why I bought one and I love it, although I have a 1.4 TSI, but it's still fun to drive, have good looks, very good mileage and large boot.
I have just bought a Leon ST R and I could have bought the RS3 I have driven it and all the other rs’s I owned a S3 a few years ago the Leon is a lot of fun and practical and a lot cheaper it has the same brakes as the Audi TTRS which are fantastic. It might not be as nice inside as our Porsche but it’s absolutely fine and the seats are perfect. Nothing wrong with a RS3 but specked up its too much money compared to the Leon. I’m super impressed with it the last 7 cars we have bought Audi S3 ,Audi SQ5, 3 BMW’s, 1 Lexus RCF, 1 Porsche also everyone I have spoken to about it like the look of it and that includes all the parents at my daughters School who pretty much all drive brand new high end cars.
@@dins.garage while i do agree on the engine, you can still get a lot from the Cupra engine and, most importanty, you get less weight over the front axle so presumably, better handling/less understeer. Otherwise, the RS looks a lot better and sounds better than the Cupra. Probably the finishing quality is also a lot better, but that's why is 9k more expensive.

Stage 3 revo 1500£ later and cupra is close to 520hp , still 7500 cheaper , and come on now the interior of the cupra is way better and 2019 , Audi a3 2014 models have the same interior as the 2019 rs3 here , the only difference is the hitech speedo , for me that is kinda lame

I'd take the Cupra R Just as fast as the rs3 in the real world and can easily be tuned to be faster. More space then the rs3 And £9000 cheaper No brainer really Cupra for the win 👍

Both excellent cars and the Leon shows just shows how far SEAT has come in manufacturing and designing cars now with the help of VAG. Owning a Leon FR ST myself it’s a very nice car to drive even for a 1.4 TSi.
Ok that’s fishy rs3 is well known for constantly doing 0-60 in about 3.6 secs and Matt knows it Edit: just went back and watched the formal review and yep it’s supposed to do around 3.7 secs.
The RS3 is such a great all around vehicle. That 5 cyl engine is what one hears and feels when they drive the car and that is a huge difference. Want more power, well there are plenty of mods to really make this engine a real beast!!
I would pick... none of these cars. A 2018 RS3 (without the OPF-filter) that does 0-60 in 3.6 second and sounds more than the boring 2019-version. That's what I would have.
@@Mhlanyo Most of the pops and bang were removed already in 2017 with the facelifted model due to sound regulations, but the flaps in the exhaust are open all the time in dynamic mode instead of over 3500 rpm like before, so it sounds more at low revs compared to before. The 4.2 is 0-60 mph, which is about 4.4 s 0-100 kph. And that is embarrassingly slow for 400 bhp and 4wd. I can't see how anyone with some knowledge would buy a new RS3 now. Better to buy a used one, or wait a couple or years for the next one. 👍
I'd pick the Audi for a couple reasons. I've owned several Audis and the RS3 is no longer available here in Canada as of 2022 model year. Therefore my 2019 RS3 is now more valuable since they are no longer available. RS3 all the way. Thanks for your review Mat.
RS3 Defo, that 0-60 is slow normally below 4 seconds. Maybe it's the new emission control.....glad I got a 2017 one 😃 You need an RS3 with the dynamic suspension for a fair comparison, if that's possible with these two cars
Well the Audi is 67k€ BEFORE options here in Spain, which gets easily to +70k... I prefeer to take a cheaper interior for that difference for sure.. I have an FR and I like It a lot.
I have a late 2018 FR 200 dsg estate, £26.5k, a bit of a bargain. Not a big fan of the audi dashboard layout. Also not a fan of 'badge snob tax', so I dismiss the usual German names. I would of liked the cupra estate but couldn't justify the extra.

@8:50 ish. The Audi feels much more expensive......well that's not surprising...it is. As a Cupra owner I'm obviously going to choose the Cupra, although I like the Audi's disappearing screen.
One thing you didn't mention, RS3 has no rear seat armrest. That's a big disappointment especially at that price point. The Leon has a rear seat armrest. Also I think the Leon cupra R comes in manual transmission.
Hey Matt, I love your videos (I‘ve been watching all your videos for a long time now) but I would have two things to suggest: 1) The sound is sometimes too quiet, sometimes its hard to understand you. Would be great to improve that. 2) Anyone outside the UK may have problems with the information such as prices in Pound, miles per gallon etc. (for example, I live in Germany and I believe that the range is now greater than just the UK) and as a viewer you have to convert everything yourself (1st world problems, I know). Maybe it would also be possible to specify Euro prices or liters per kilometer. Otherwise keep it up. Very good format :) Much love
… and if you want to drive like there's an egg under the throttle when it rains, get an M2 Comp. I drove one in the wet and it was poor. Fine on a track, but sliding around on a public road and poor traction when you push it... no thanks. Also, interior is dated and so is the tech. Fuel consumption awful and looks like every other BMW. If you need the space you get a properly speced RS3 and if you don't, you get a TT RS or a Cayman GTS.

So many comparison videos of Cupras with RS3's when it should really be the S3, given that the it is the closest equivalent. Putting it against a 5 cylinder with around 100bhp more doesn't usually show the Cupra in the proper light. I now have a new Cupra and while the interior quality is nothing like the Audis (Which are really nice places to be) the car itself is more fun and sharper. I know it won't sell for as much down the line but it was much cheaper to start with and is less common. Personally I'm glad I went with the Seat but each to their own as they say.
Easy vote. The Seat Leon Cupra R. I am on my 3rd Leon Cupra and I love erm. Great cars. The only negative for me is four wheel drive only comes on the ST estate version. Shame because some of the power is wasted on the front wheel drive Cupra.
In Singapore, the RS3 goes for £170,000. Plus you only get to keep the car for 10 years. As for the SEAT, we only have the Leon Cupra that goes for £90,000. It's a dream to have any of these cars here.

Matt, one lesson for you .... once you put an Audi in dynamic mode, gearbox is automatically set to S mode, you always do one more extra shift and then you again set it to D mode. I say this because launch control is not valid in D mode. Regards
I picked the seat because I have been commuting on nice twisty rural B roads for the last 4 years :) and I could do with an estate now and an estate drivers car that is fun on my routes narrows my options quite a bit. Interesting in Cupra St vs golf R estate.
I like the cupra but the problem I have with seat is that they never make their own cars.They just take the models from Volkswagen,Skoda and Audi and slap a seat badge on it and make ot cheaper.Basicly the cupra is a audi rs3 that speaks spanish.
How is an rs3 a “sleeper car”? People see 1.2 Audi coming at them and they’d think it’s fast just cos it’s Audi so no. There’s no surprise. Especially to those that know it’s an rs3.
i got a seat leon cupra 2019 st non r with the upgraded sound (beats audio), park assist plus, Adaptive cruse control and more for just 24k pounds. Very much more worth it after the abt tune. I also upgraded the exhaust so its sounds way better and gave me an extra 30hp for around 900 pounds.
Engine is the only good thing about it, not enough to choose it over the Cupra for me. Not a fan of audi's in general, rs4 only one that interest me but each to their own n all that 👍
You are clueless, they’ve chosen the most basic spec rs3 with no colour, no one specs an rs3 like that and then put it up against the highest spec seat. Seat looks cheap.
I have a cupra ST not an R and its running 503bhp. Had it running that for over two years no issues what so ever, but i did get the dreaded waterpump/thermostat failure but that was before i did the work to it. In a wagoon doing 0 to 60mph in just under 4 seconds is crazy.
Started Audi then Supra until last moment u said u wud get the audi because of driving confidence, which I thought earlier was supra in the corners. Basically I hang on 2 every word. Anndddd the stick test is epic. Its needs 2 be pointed out lol. This video will go down as a best all time relaxed review and exactly what I wanted learn. Support u always

Stage 3 revo 1500£ later and cupra is close to 520hp , still 7500 cheaper , and come on now the interior of the cupra is way better and 2019 , Audi a3 2014 models have the same interior as the 2019 rs3 here , the only difference is the hitech speedo , for me that is kinda lame

Both excellent cars and the Leon shows just shows how far SEAT has come in manufacturing and designing cars now with the help of VAG. Owning a Leon FR ST myself it’s a very nice car to drive even for a 1.4 TSi.

The RS3 is such a great all around vehicle. That 5 cyl engine is what one hears and feels when they drive the car and that is a huge difference. Want more power, well there are plenty of mods to really make this engine a real beast!!

But the Cupra would be the clear winner overall, if it was compared to the S3.

I also thought that RS3 didn't sound right... Pops and bangs are missing. and that 4.2 seconds is a Golf's 0 -100 km/h.
@@Mhlanyo Most of the pops and bang were removed already in 2017 with the facelifted model due to sound regulations, but the flaps in the exhaust are open all the time in dynamic mode instead of over 3500 rpm like before, so it sounds more at low revs compared to before. The 4.2 is 0-60 mph, which is about 4.4 s 0-100 kph. And that is embarrassingly slow for 400 bhp and 4wd. I can't see how anyone with some knowledge would buy a new RS3 now. Better to buy a used one, or wait a couple or years for the next one. 👍
I'd pick the Audi for a couple reasons. I've owned several Audis and the RS3 is no longer available here in Canada as of 2022 model year. Therefore my 2019 RS3 is now more valuable since they are no longer available. RS3 all the way. Thanks for your review Mat.

Well the Audi is 67k€ BEFORE options here in Spain, which gets easily to +70k... I prefeer to take a cheaper interior for that difference for sure.. I have an FR and I like It a lot.

I have a late 2018 FR 200 dsg estate, £26.5k, a bit of a bargain. Not a big fan of the audi dashboard layout. Also not a fan of 'badge snob tax', so I dismiss the usual German names.
I would of liked the cupra estate but couldn't justify the extra.

One thing you didn't mention, RS3 has no rear seat armrest. That's a big disappointment especially at that price point. The Leon has a rear seat armrest. Also I think the Leon cupra R comes in manual transmission.
I would take the cheaper Seat Leon Cupra. It's also more sporty driving, which i like.

Hey Matt, I love your videos (I‘ve been watching all your videos for a long time now) but I would have two things to suggest:
1) The sound is sometimes too quiet, sometimes its hard to understand you. Would be great to improve that.
2) Anyone outside the UK may have problems with the information such as prices in Pound, miles per gallon etc. (for example, I live in Germany and I believe that the range is now greater than just the UK) and as a viewer you have to convert everything yourself (1st world problems, I know). Maybe it would also be possible to specify Euro prices or liters per kilometer.

… and if you want to drive like there's an egg under the throttle when it rains, get an M2 Comp. I drove one in the wet and it was poor. Fine on a track, but sliding around on a public road and poor traction when you push it... no thanks. Also, interior is dated and so is the tech. Fuel consumption awful and looks like every other BMW. If you need the space you get a properly speced RS3 and if you don't, you get a TT RS or a Cayman GTS.

So many comparison videos of Cupras with RS3's when it should really be the S3, given that the it is the closest equivalent. Putting it against a 5 cylinder with around 100bhp more doesn't usually show the Cupra in the proper light. I now have a new Cupra and while the interior quality is nothing like the Audis (Which are really nice places to be) the car itself is more fun and sharper. I know it won't sell for as much down the line but it was much cheaper to start with and is less common. Personally I'm glad I went with the Seat but each to their own as they say.
Easy vote. The Seat Leon Cupra R. I am on my 3rd Leon Cupra and I love erm. Great cars. The only negative for me is four wheel drive only comes on the ST estate version. Shame because some of the power is wasted on the front wheel drive Cupra.
Can't afford either one here cuz Seat doesn't make cars in HK and the RS3 is nearly 100,000 USD base model!

In Singapore, the RS3 goes for £170,000. Plus you only get to keep the car for 10 years. As for the SEAT, we only have the Leon Cupra that goes for £90,000. It's a dream to have any of these cars here.

When he had the RS4 Audi was winning everything, then he got the 850i and BMW seemed to be the flavour of the month. Now he has the Merc G63 and the first video putting the new AMG A45 S against the RS3 and it's 0.5 seconds slower to 60. All seems a bit convenient.

Matt, one lesson for you .... once you put an Audi in dynamic mode, gearbox is automatically set to S mode, you always do one more extra shift and then you again set it to D mode. I say this because launch control is not valid in D mode. Regards

Leon every time, I’ve had 4 of them, cupra R, FR and SE Copa, The R was awesome, only down side was 11 to 15 mpg.
i got a seat leon cupra 2019 st non r with the upgraded sound (beats audio), park assist plus, Adaptive cruse control and more for just 24k pounds. Very much more worth it after the abt tune. I also upgraded the exhaust so its sounds way better and gave me an extra 30hp for around 900 pounds.

I have a cupra ST not an R and its running 503bhp. Had it running that for over two years no issues what so ever, but i did get the dreaded waterpump/thermostat failure but that was before i did the work to it. In a wagoon doing 0 to 60mph in just under 4 seconds is crazy.
Started Audi then Supra until last moment u said u wud get the audi because of driving confidence, which I thought earlier was supra in the corners. Basically I hang on 2 every word. Anndddd the stick test is epic. Its needs 2 be pointed out lol. This video will go down as a best all time relaxed review and exactly what I wanted learn. Support u always
