This adds a whole new dimension to the city building genre. In CS1, water and electricity were kind an after thought and people just got the pipes done to cover as much of the map as possible. Now that they are this detailed and have a proper management of their own, the players have to think about the water and electricity planning right from the beginning and actively work on it as and when the city grows.
I work with wastewater and love seeing it getting redone. Can you also add stuff like aeration tanks, chlorine tanks to clean the waste, and maybe a methane/natural gas generator?
Curiously have u made the Moon & Night Sky look realistic ? (& Sunrise/Sunset in correct East/West direction, CS:1 is/was wrong lol). I love looking at The Constellations & The Planets in our Solar System, Some people are lucky and get to see the Northern Lights🪐🌜☀🌃. it would add that extra cherry on top if you make realistic night sky.
ooh my. I've often wondered what it'll be like with a better simulated power grid for Cities: Skylines and You've actually gone and done it. I am so Hyped for this game. I can't wait for some of the content creators to start playing this.
I once powered a hydroelectric powerplant and dam using only nothing but sewage outflow pipes in Cities Skylines 1. Because the water was uphill from where it was being pumped, it was essentially an infinite energy device. My citizens marveled at their gleaming brown rivers and 100% renewable energy supply that they themselves helped create.
Fantastic job, CO definitely thought about the phrase “more power to you” I love the expendable infrastructure, and I really like the new assets too. They feel more realistic.
Good idea. Also Ground salinity which can lead to land infertility (or may be it just makes the game too complicated 🤔). Anyway if this counts as overcomplication they can consider water salinity a type of water pollution (and land salinity part of the ground pollution).
One thing about CS1 that always annoyed me was how easily you could insert a water pumping station inside open waters and extract drinking water and fresh water out of it where in reality sea water is considered saline water.
Love the more indepth systems this time around. Having all these extra mechanics / considerations will make the simulation portion of the game that much more engaging for players. Super keen to what else you guys come up with
Of the many features I've been excited for in Cities Skylines 2, I didn't expect powerlines hooking up to transformer stations to be chief among them. I love laying powerline corridors and the ability to transition them into transformers will make industrial areas much more convincing. Top notch! And of course the gigantic footprint of powerplants is *kiss*

So hyped to get into the detail & micromanage. Am trying not to let excitement get ahead of caution, as we’ve all had our fair share of let-downs over the years playing games, but am failing atm and every new dev vid looks awesome :D
I'm so happy I've been going through these and it really feels like the devs are listening to the players and what they want from CSII, while also adding things I never knew I wanted.
I love to see how great something can become when developers and community are like a team. The CS2-Team is such a amazing example to other studios! Much love!
Great job! It's rare these days when developers listen to the players, work on bugs and make game mechanics with their mind and common sense. Compared to the first part, this game has become more mature, I'm talking about both the realistic scale of buildings and graphics, as well as the mechanics of zoning, population, even power supply now require thinking, and not just "connect the area to the network and forget it." Looking forward to new diaries, thank you guys for happy Mondays!
I didn’t place my pre-order at the beginning since I can’t tell how the game works from the initial fancy, visionary trailer and…I can tell it usually sucks with the actual release, according to my recent experiences. (2077, Diablo IV, etc.) But now I’ve changed my mind and placed my order, thanks to the transparency. I hope there will be more developers doing like this. Great work!
I think my jaw dropped at five separate parts of this video. Substations? Wiring bottlenecks? Battery storage? Groundwater sources that naturally replenish themselves? Hot weather causing higher electricity demand? Checking off so much of my wishlist here
Cities Skylines was great because it fixed a lot of the problems we all had with Sim City. Cities Skylines 2 is going to be great because it is fixing the problems we had with CS. I am very excited for this game. I haven't paid full price for a computer game in YEARS, but I might for this one.
Very impressive Devs! The step down of substations, managing grid flow, fluctuations in power use, and marketing of extra power to outside cities is super realistic. I'm really looking forward to this game!!! Don't know if you're at a point where things can still be added? Lots of power companies have a cost related to their ability to warehouse and store materials. It'd be super cool if having utility warehouses in good locations helped impact the cost of utilities in the city? Also if we're still importing materials to power plants, it would be cool if larger/efficient forms of transporting goods likes trains vs roads meant things like coal or oil were cheaper to get, impacting utility cost? Maybe making those resources in your home town gave you an incentive to building that utility? Again, loving everything I see and can't wait for this game!
I always wished for electricity and water to be like fun little minigames you need to solve. It seems like we're going that way in the sequel! Specifically stormwater has so much potential for cool infrastructure networks.
I love the scale of the buildings. The fact that they are no longer just a small and self sustained building, but a huge complex that takes up a whole lot of space is beautiful.
I really like you don't just improved the graphics and the building tools, but also added new features to the gameplay. I hope it get's challenging to build a city and fullfill all it's needs.
You guys actually took the boring parts out of the game with road carrying electricity and water, and complexified the systems to make it realistic and interesting. I'm pumped, great job it seems to be a constant around all of the features
Great Job Devs! I am very excited about the economy and production and I hope that it will be a challenge. In the first part everything was still very easy and not a real challenge. But so far each part has become more complex so I think it will also be more extensive. I'm very hyped!
CS2 is definitely going to have a steeper learning curve, but I'm 100% sure at this point, its gonna be worth it. Every system we've seen now has been made more complex, and more intricate, not to mention the sheer amount of what has been mods that are now included. I can't wait to play. Well done, devs.

@@nicolasblume1046 Read the dev diary. Quote "Power lines can be manually placed above ground *or underground* and they can be connected to low-voltage electric cables and roads with a Transformer Station."
Also I like how this game feels much more sim like
CS1 had a habit of build residential zones, Now build commercial, Now build Industrial, Now build power, Now build residential
Oh my god i literally cant wait, those powerlines with the different insulators look so good!!!❤❤❤
whatt ? how could you comment in 4 days ago while the video just upload 11 hours ago ??
@@ryanninjutsu i commented on the premiere thing
This feels like such a huge step up from CS1. I just hope that all the features are not "to much".
Another monday saying "They cannot show something more mind blowing than the last week..." And here I am again with my jaw dropped. Come on, guys... This will be the final city builder. What an amazing job.
Just when I thought the first few highlights were the main ones and everything else wouldn't matter... it just keeps getting BETTER!!! More than what I'd ever want. The CS2 Team is really making the very best of the best city builder!!!!! I can not wait any longer...
These videos are doing their job at hyping me up soooo much for this game. I can’t wait!!!
Love the realism, the size of buildings (more realistic!), and the way that buildings can be upgraded. Good stuff!
These are gonna be so good, I'm so hyped!
the sound track was so epic i couldn’t concentrate on what was being said 😂
1:32 This game looks *_fantastic_* so far, but I’m not going to lie, that smoke animation looks a _little_ goofy! 😛
Thought so myself.
This feature highlights is always the highlights of our week.
I work with wastewater and love seeing it getting redone. Can you also add stuff like aeration tanks, chlorine tanks to clean the waste, and maybe a methane/natural gas generator?
i drink wastewater
i'm honestly blown away by all the new features coming to CS2. This is how you make a sequel
I love the difference between distribution power and transmission power. My job approves 😂
Absolutely awesome stuff. Just the right amount of complexity. Incredible stuff!
I think northern lights are confirmed because you can see them in some gameplay and in the trailer
Northen lights are literatlly sun farts, they look nice tho
ooh my. I've often wondered what it'll be like with a better simulated power grid for Cities: Skylines and You've actually gone and done it.
I am so Hyped for this game. I can't wait for some of the content creators to start playing this.
2:36 I’m not sure why a nuclear power plant contaminates ground water ????
devs dont know how it works.
peobably just for balance since it'd be overpowered if nuclear had no downsides like in real life
I once powered a hydroelectric powerplant and dam using only nothing but sewage outflow pipes in Cities Skylines 1. Because the water was uphill from where it was being pumped, it was essentially an infinite energy device. My citizens marveled at their gleaming brown rivers and 100% renewable energy supply that they themselves helped create.
This is without a doubt going to win Game of the Year, the amount of love and care the developers put into CS 2 is unmatched!
Fantastic job, CO definitely thought about the phrase “more power to you”
I love the expendable infrastructure, and I really like the new assets too. They feel more realistic.
Water salinity, please!! Desalination plants and so on
Good idea. Also Ground salinity which can lead to land infertility (or may be it just makes the game too complicated 🤔).
Anyway if this counts as overcomplication they can consider water salinity a type of water pollution (and land salinity part of the ground pollution).
One thing about CS1 that always annoyed me was how easily you could insert a water pumping station inside open waters and extract drinking water and fresh water out of it where in reality sea water is considered saline water.
i love it. especially the scaling of the power plants. it looks so much better
Please fix the steam clipping through the Nuclear Power Station model!
It's a pretty quick and easy fix, should be fixed for launch
1:36 idk why but this little shot makes me so happy ! everything jsut feels right with this game
my question is are they going to add a company history with all of the things they did?
Love the more indepth systems this time around. Having all these extra mechanics / considerations will make the simulation portion of the game that much more engaging for players. Super keen to what else you guys come up with
Of the many features I've been excited for in Cities Skylines 2, I didn't expect powerlines hooking up to transformer stations to be chief among them. I love laying powerline corridors and the ability to transition them into transformers will make industrial areas much more convincing. Top notch! And of course the gigantic footprint of powerplants is *kiss*
Having electric pipes under roads completely out of sight out of mind makes our cities look 10000x better. Insane work CO and Paradox.
Omg finally, the power lines at the beginning issue is mainly gone lol, this is soooo good!
AND BATTERY STATIONS? LETS GOOO
Yes! Yall are making this one look so perfect that it's almost hard to play current Cities: Skylines! Can't wait for the perfect birthday gift (game launches 2 days after mine) and keep up the phenomenal work Devs!!!
🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:03 🏙️ Cities need electricity, water, and sanitation systems for healthy, happy citizens.
00:32 ⚡ Ensure an even spread of electricity connections and consider importing/exporting energy to manage demand.
01:28 🔋 Emergency Battery Stations optimize solar power usage, while other renewable and fossil fuel options are available.
02:27 💧 Manage groundwater carefully to avoid depletion and contamination; use Groundwater and Water Pumping Stations.
02:54 🚱 Wastewater Treatment Plants can process sewage into clean water, and Sewage Outlets help prevent backups and health risks.

So hyped to get into the detail & micromanage. Am trying not to let excitement get ahead of caution, as we’ve all had our fair share of let-downs over the years playing games, but am failing atm and every new dev vid looks awesome :D
God damn how did you make so many improvements to Cities Skylines 2. Absolutely amazing, I’m so excited!
Man i love how much work you guys have put in to make this a city sim!
I didn’t place my pre-order at the beginning since I can’t tell how the game works from the initial fancy, visionary trailer and…I can tell it usually sucks with the actual release, according to my recent experiences. (2077, Diablo IV, etc.)
But now I’ve changed my mind and placed my order, thanks to the transparency.
This is why I love paradox, the attention to detail is incredible!
Paradox is the publisher, Colossal Order are the developers.
I love the scale of the buildings. The fact that they are no longer just a small and self sustained building, but a huge complex that takes up a whole lot of space is beautiful.
City Skylines 2 Mods in 5 years be like: You now can play as Spider-Man and swing across your city!
Power lines look awesome the high voltage ones make everything more immersive
It makes me so happy! I promise you, for me this game is like meditating, it takes away the stress like nothing else after a day of work
Engineers had a look at that bridge at 2:17, their answer is : No.
Its so cool that all these videos release cool information, that both add realism and also gameplay 👍👍👍
Pretty cool change in the electricity gameplay system. no need for electric roads and i dig having to convert electricity.
I really like you don't just improved the graphics and the building tools, but also added new features to the gameplay. I hope it get's challenging to build a city and fullfill all it's needs.
So much respect for these devs. There’s a lot of effort going into this game
I'm buying this for the LV/ HV split alone. It's becoming so realistic and I love it!! Great work all and these small video are immense!!!
These changes are exactly what I and many others wanted! It’s nice to see a dev team that want to make a game for the players
I saw that building being able to be under a high voltage powerline at 2:42 and shred a single tear
Holy crap, this is so cool!!! I'm so excited, especially about the realistic power grid!!
Hearing electricity was tied to roads seemed like such a cop out, reminded me of Sim City, I hated the idea.
But this sounds AMAZING! Good job!
Love the way how you can upgrade already existing buildings! Keep it up!
