Malaysian food is so simple. You just mixed up everything they gave to you on the rice. Basically that is chicken rice. You need to mix the chilli paste and the black souce (sweet soy souce+ chicken broth) depend on the spicy and sweetness you prefer.

Some local advice . Most of all Malaysia food "you need to mix up all the ingredients that them give to you". That sound weird, because western food is made "1 dish for specific taste" . But in Malaysia you need to mix up in order to get that specific taste of local food. That unique of Malaysia food. For example that NASI AYAM in this video : you need to mix the sauce "black/red & soup" into your rice, and eat with chicken. That how you eat local food. Another exam is like previous video when you eat NASI LEMAK. You need to mix in other to get the taste. Sorry for my broken english
Kampong Baru was once dwelled by Malays but today, more then 90% (conservative figure) are Indonesians (1st and 2nd generation) mainly from Ache province. Most food stalls and sundry shops were rented to them since the 80s. That is why these so called local Malay food crusine is more like Indonesia style then the local Malay's crusine. (The uploaded did mentioned it tasted like Indonesian food) Today the authentic Malay food can be found in Trengganu, Kelantan, Perlis or Kedah.
Kampong Bharu majoriti penduduknya masih orang Melayu.
I feel there are more stalls generally in the evenings or afternoons - my opinion. But chinatown is the opposite. There are more food stalls in the morning and afternoon. Night becomes more busy with people selling stuff.
THE entire Kg Baru are is worth USD 3 billion . The reason its not being sold is that every plot of land is passed down for generation. So over time each plot of land got like 30 to 40 people name on the deed and its impossible to get them to agree on anything
Hi… The green juice is ‘kedondong’ in Malay or Ambarella in English. And they normally add a couple of preserved plums to balance the sourness of the ‘kedondong’… And a tip - In Malaysia, if u use your hands/fingers to eat, it is polite to use the right hand… Enjoy staying in & exploring Malaysia 🇲🇾 esp. the variety of food choices !!!

Minute 13:00 guys, you eat the fish always with a little bit of rice. Eat tempe and chicken with a little rice.. and munch them together in your mouth. And swallow 😅 And pour the soup in the rice. We don't eat it separately, guys. Usually, it hard to finish just the white rice without the dish (lauk). If we run out of fish.. what we do is we get some more of the dish, so that we can finish it together with the white rice. Hopefully, this doesn't complicate your lunch 😅😅 Good job on these videos. Hi guys. The best way to eat & enjoy cendol is in bowl like the guy sitting next to you. If by the plastic cup. You will suck the coconut milk(thru the straw) but not the condiments inside..
Add more gravy to your white rice..to give more appetizing and taste.. thats why we call mix rice ( nasi campur )😁 Green juice i think is green apple with asam boi, sweet and sour
In Malay Language, everything that starts with letter C, will sounds Ch as in Chair. So, cendol is pronounced Chendol. Cendol is actually the green wormy thing made out of flour and the green color came from pandan. You gotta mix everything before sipping cendol The lady at rice stall said Buah Kedondong (ambarella or hog plum). when she said 'Masam-masam', she meant it taste very sour. When they made it into drinks, normally sugar has already been added. And the brownish thing you see in the Kedondong juice was 'Asam boi', which is also sour plum but has been preserved, dried and coated with sugar and salt so it became like liquorice on its own. The lunch set for the girl from England (sorry didn't really your both names), was Chicken Rice. The sambal egg & tempeh are additional side dishes. The black sauce was soy sauce + vinegar...
Thank you! Strange because it didn't taste like soy, if it was, it was very light and a bit sweet, almost tasted like a Chinese sauce. We're Mario and Olivia 😁
Enjoy watching you guys exploring Kampung Baru n Malay's food👍 Those wooden house we call "rumah kampung"..Hope u guys have more time visit outside KL, especially the east coast like Kelantan, Terengganu🌴
The best way to eat everything in Malaysia is to pour everything on top of the rice and mix it well. The rice with chicken is called "Chicken Rice" and the soup, soy sauce, and the rice is normally cooked together with chicken broth. The way I like to eat chicken rice is to pour soy sauce and chili sauce on top of the chicken so that the chicken is juicy and soft

At minute 12:50 is actually food from Indonesia. We Malaysians don't mind foreigners coming to trade food and becoming part of our daily staple food. Because we practice a diversity lifestyle. But it will make some the stupid over proud nationalist Indonesians will say we are robbing their native food. such as roti canai which originates from India. And became famous in Malaysia. And when you come to Malaysia you should try roti canai even if it is not local food.

To drink the "Cendol" the right way, you need to stir it so it will mix the cendol properly because it has brown sugar and coconut milk, otherwise you will find it too much sweet in the bottom.. Cendol, Laici Kang and ABC "Air Batu Campur" is the most popular desert in Malaysia..
Kampung Baru, right there smack in the golden triangle of KL, don't be deceived by the wooden house, the land plot of each house is worth multi-million ringgit, many interested parties have made countless offers to buy them but land owners won't budge to sell, they fought hard to preserve their village
You have to really shake up or stir the beans drink (cendol) to really enjoy it, the wrapped fish paste (otak-otak) is actually made from shrimps & better to eat together with rice..
Keropok lekor’s main ingredients are fish, sago flour, tapioca flour and others. It is a traditional snacks from the east coast (states of Kelantan and Terengganu). 👍

Go to Kampung Baru 12 noon onwards…evening to night time will be more lively till like 3-4 am in the morning….The Uncle D restaurant that you showed, at dinner time they have grilled fishes… my friend said their grilled fish. is nicer than the one next to it. Try grilled sting ray fish if they have coz i think it’s the best fish for grill topped with sambal and eaten with sour sauce, and it is easy to eat too…I’m living in Kuwait and i’m going back to Msia for holiday nxt month and definitely will check that place out… When you eat white rice and other dishes, for. example. the fish, ask for some curry gravy or the yellow curry to be put onto your rice so that your rice will not be so dry and you can. enjoy a tastier rice rather than just with the fish and sambal …don’t worry, they won’t charge you anything for the gravy..your whole experience of the meal will be different…i understand you have been to indonesia, and yes, they normally eat their rice with meat or fish and sambal…they don’t eat rice with much gravy or curry, they have many choices of sambal though.

Classic nasi kandar like the locals usually eat is white rice with mix curry gravy ( not to forget the black gravy also) and meat dish of your choice, such daging hitam, ayam bawang, or ayam madu or fried chicken with veggies such boiled okra, cabbage, green beans, boiled egg and raw green pepper ( not spicy but smokey taste).. If you go for roti canai, try roti canai kosong (plain roti canai) or roti telur (egg roti canai) or roti sardine ( sardine roti canai, my fav)…they will give you few sauces like dhal, curry and sambal…locals normally mix the curry and dhal with sambal to get extra spicy kick… for noodle dish i recommend you order “mee goreng mamak” ( mamak fried noodle, locals fav), and ask them to put fried chicken in it…I saw you order Dosa (locals say thosai) the other day, but i recommend you to order Thosai masala ( dosa filled with veggies and potatoes, my fav kind of thosai).😊 ok guys, till next recommendation , enjoy Malaysia!✌️

Yes use to find it in Sumatra and Java when we travelled there init.
kendondong and guava is two different type of fruit... kendondong is more like manggo but it very different with regular manggo... kendondong is a native fruit in malaysia... it have no english name same like cempedak, durian and rambutan

Excellent comment, great recommendations and must try :)
Also to add on top: try durian (if you can find: Musang King), smelly fruit but it tastes very different than it smells.
Malaysian food is so simple. You just mixed up everything they gave to you on the rice. Basically that is chicken rice. You need to mix the chilli paste and the black souce (sweet soy souce+ chicken broth) depend on the spicy and sweetness you prefer.
We just moved into KLCC, and this video is a great help showing us what's available in Kampung Baru. U both look like a wonderful couple enjoying the sights and sounds of Malaysia. Have a great journey wherever it takes both of u. Kudos!
4:07 U shouldn't be drinking the bottom dark part like that because that's melted brown sugar so it's sweet af. U should properly stir it before u drink
The green water u guys drink is call Air Kedondong, Mike eating white rice with fish sambal, olivia eat nasi ayam + telur sambal + sambal tempe
Tomorrow is our national day for MALAYSIA 65 years independence……try to go to dataran merdeka in the morning at 7.00 am, there is a parade with lots of activities, dont miss its since 2 years we dont have national days due to covid and this year we will celebrate with grand celebration and dont forget at 12.00am tonite there is fire cracker or bunga api celebration in Kuala Lumpur, dont miss it….
We look forward to it 🙌
The drink that you have is called kedondong asamboi. In penang it is call ambra asamboi.
In english, kedondong is call as Amberella fruit
Thanks so much, it was delicious!
Haha I’m from Penang and only heard of Ambra not kedondong. I learnt so many new things from TH-cam vlogs.
@@wolger we learn new things everyday here in the comments from our viewers sharing knowledge 😁
i love that drink🌿🌿🌿🌿🍁🍁🍁💨💨🤙🏻🤙🏻
Some local advice . Most of all Malaysia food "you need to mix up all the ingredients that them give to you". That sound weird, because western food is made "1 dish for specific taste" . But in Malaysia you need to mix up in order to get that specific taste of local food. That unique of Malaysia food. For example that NASI AYAM in this video : you need to mix the sauce "black/red & soup" into your rice, and eat with chicken. That how you eat local food. Another exam is like previous video when you eat NASI LEMAK. You need to mix in other to get the taste. Sorry for my broken english
Apart from cendol you must try the 'ABC' /air batu campur or mixed ice beans. Wait until it's melt a bit.....
Sounds interesting, will try next time!

Rain is a blessing to us...it fills up our water 💧.
I'm glad to see travelers from Lithuania and UK walking around in the local areas. Welcome 🌹and have a great time here in Malaysia.😁
Thanks so much 🙂
feels so good to see them here 🌿🌿🌿🌿🍁🍁🍁💨💨🤙🏻🤙🏻
Kampong Baru was once dwelled by Malays but today, more then 90% (conservative figure) are Indonesians (1st and 2nd generation) mainly from Ache province.
True.
Org Kampung Baru mainly from Acheh? yakin benar kau bang.
Not true..please read more about Kampung Baru and get the facts right.
@@fuadfahmy1579Bru saya dari kampung baru.
Kampong Bharu majoriti penduduknya masih orang Melayu.
I feel there are more stalls generally in the evenings or afternoons - my opinion. But chinatown is the opposite. There are more food stalls in the morning and afternoon. Night becomes more busy with people selling stuff.
i feel same too🌿🌿🌿🌿🍁🍁🍁💨💨🤙🏻🤙🏻🌿🌿🌿🌿🍁🍁🍁💨💨🤙🏻🤙🏻
THE entire Kg Baru are is worth USD 3 billion . The reason its not being sold is that every plot of land is passed down for generation. So over time each plot of land got like 30 to 40 people name on the deed and its impossible to get them to agree on anything
Thanks for this info, really interesting to know the story behind a place 🙂
Yeah. It's very unfortunate that a lot of our wealth (Or rather, *their* wealth) remains stuck in limbo. A great loss for the Malays and Muslims.
Hi…
The green juice is ‘kedondong’ in Malay or Ambarella in English. And they normally add a couple of preserved plums to balance the sourness of the ‘kedondong’…
And a tip - In Malaysia, if u use your hands/fingers to eat, it is polite to use the right hand…
Enjoy staying in & exploring Malaysia 🇲🇾 esp. the variety of food choices !!!

👋Hello alana.....hOw are you doing? I hope you're doing well😉, sTay saFe and tAke care yourself☺️
Wished you ate at the first crowded restaurant - one of my personal faves - it’s Padang or Minang food which originates from West Sumatera Indonesia, but very popular here 😋 they also have their popular Apolkat drink, a combination of avocado & chocolate sauce, and also Teh Botol Sosro; a well known Indonesian bottled tea.
She have basic taste for food so what she order suit her better 🤣 what we think is good maybe too much for some. Since she hate sauce 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for sharing this wonderful video n for showing your exploration in Kampung Baru in KL. Plenty of local Malay street food.
D green juice is made from a sour fruit called kedondong, ambarella.
D rice that came with d broth is nasi ayam, chicken rice, that's one of d Malay version, perhaps u guys like better d original version that originated from d Malaysian Chinese. Total of RM31, I found that a little bit to d expensive side, but prices of street food have increased recently.

How do I get to kampung Baru ?
The cendol is from pandan leave, salty taste from coconut milk, red bean usually no corn depend on the flavor with brown sugar. Bon appetit 😋 otak2 with mackerel mixed with grind coconut.
The drink is kedondong. Sort of like asam boi sweet sour.
🙏🙏
Remember to always stir your drink when you in Malaysia. Nice vlog. 😊
Will keep that in mind, thank you 🙂
@@TravelsonToast drinks in Malaysia are generally sweetened when served. If you wish your drinks to be less sweet you must order "kurang manis" or less sweet e.g. Teh tarik kurang manis. Teh tarik (pulled tea) and iced Milo are our famous drinks
@@drbakshaharuddin7293 we tried teh tarik the other day, it was great!
New subscriber here.. I love how brave you are and willing to try everything.. Great video overall..

Thank you, we are open to try anything 🙂
i feel the braveness too🌿🌿🌿🌿🍁🍁🍁💨💨🤙🏻🤙🏻
1:37 btw the fish thingy is called 'keropok'. And its really cool to see you guys try them as someone who lived in the state where keropok originally was made which is terengganu, we people from terengganu really a massive fan of keropok and also 3 keropok for 2 rm? Thats really expensive
pls go to the island rather the city , kampong cherating , or pulau kapas
Minute 13:00 guys, you eat the fish always with a little bit of rice. Eat tempe and chicken with a little rice.. and munch them together in your mouth. And swallow 😅
And pour the soup in the rice.
I love it. Have a good day throughout your stay!
I love KL lots of varieties of foods.Hope You guys had a great time makan in SE.Salute 🙏
#tempe - beans
#ikansambal - spicy fish
#drinks you had is Asam Boi (sweet sour plum)
Best tips for travellers to find local dish in KL base on Malaysian
*Chinese authentic food : petaling street Chinatown
*Malays authentic food : Kampung baru
*Indian authentic food : little India street
I love watching you guys (Virgin to Malaysia) the reactions and misinterpretations are funny and entertaining. dont stop Guys
The green drinks is Jus Kedondong Asam Boi - Ambarella Juice with Salted Dried Plum.
It is best to find foods at night time...There will be more restaurants you can find around the city...
The drink that both of you like it (with green colour) is called KEDONDONG ASAM BOI consists of kedondong fruit and asam boi (sour plum)
Hi guys. The best way to eat & enjoy cendol is in bowl like the guy sitting next to you.
If by the plastic cup. You will suck the coconut milk(thru the straw) but not the condiments inside..
Ok, we will do that next time, thanks 🙏
Add more gravy to your white rice..to give more appetizing and taste.. thats why we call mix rice ( nasi campur )😁
Green juice i think is green apple with asam boi, sweet and sour
It's kedondong asam boi
In Malay Language, everything that starts with letter C, will sounds Ch as in Chair. So, cendol is pronounced Chendol.
Cendol is actually the green wormy thing made out of flour and the green color came from pandan. You gotta mix everything before sipping cendol
The lady at rice stall said Buah Kedondong (ambarella or hog plum). when she said 'Masam-masam', she meant it taste very sour.
We're Mario and Olivia 😁
you are correct🌿🌿🌿🌿🍁🍁🍁💨💨🤙🏻🤙🏻
It's not soy sauce + vinegar but sweet soy sauce. The one with vinegar is more popular in Chinese cuisine. It's a must when eating shark's fin soup.
Enjoy watching you guys exploring Kampung Baru n Malay's food👍
Those wooden house we call "rumah kampung"..Hope u guys have more time visit outside KL, especially the east coast like Kelantan, Terengganu🌴
Thanks, yes we do, we are here for a while so we will see plenty of Malaysia 🙂
@@TravelsonToast nice👍
You guys are lovely, hilliarious and it's really fun to watch your videos. Keep it up and cheers! 💕💐
Thank you so much 😊
The best way to eat everything in Malaysia is to pour everything on top of the rice and mix it well. The rice with chicken is called "Chicken Rice" and the soup, soy sauce, and the rice is normally cooked together with chicken broth. The way I like to eat chicken rice is to pour soy sauce and chili sauce on top of the chicken so that the chicken is juicy and soft
I like my dish to have individual taste so I never mixed my rice with it xD
to taste an authentic keropok lekor (fish finger) come to Terengganu state located at the east coast of the peninsular
Ok, will do!
Seing crunchy keropok lekor & tender otak² make me hungry.... When it's come to kedondong asam boy drink part, I cannot hold anymore... My mouth drooling a lot.
You had the chicken rice, the soy sauce and the chilli sauce are also mixed with chicken broth, same thing as the rice, they cook it using the chicken broth
go to Kajang n try Satay Kajang near the Kajang Stadium..u can used the public transport to Kajang..prefered by MRT..straight away to Stadium Kajang from KL..The restaurant is just beside the MRT station..
Many people said this... We will try!
@@TravelsonToast yes, and don’t forget to mix the sambal they give with the peanut sauce for spicy kick (my fav of satay sauce so far)
There is a good street food market. They block the street of a night in the Bukit Bintang

FYI the Malays are the majority in Malaysia..Malaysia means Malay land..Chinese and Indian are immigrants brought by the British..Malays are the people in Malaysia.Malays have traditions and culture What is really amazing..if you come to Malaysia you should try Malay food and Malay culture..there are many Malay states in Malaysia..try to travel all over Malaysia to m Experiencing Malay culture and food..in every country there is a little Indian and Chinese..but you will not find a little Malay that is why you should take the Malay experience in Malaysia
We will be visiting all of Malaysia 🙂
Kedondong is Ambarella, Ataheitte apple / Great hot plum. Hope you like it 😉
At minute 12:50 is actually food from Indonesia.
The green drink is called a buah kedondong or amra juice.
Come also to East Malaysia.. My Borneo Island, Kuching capital of Sarawak..
We plan to!
they need to come see how things work here🌿🌿🌿🌿🍁🍁🍁💨💨🤙🏻🤙🏻

I'm sure someone's pointed it out by now but its pronounced "chendol" the c in bahasa has a "ch" sound. k is the hard c sound in their language.
Yes the guy tells us in the video 😅
To drink the "Cendol" the right way, you need to stir it so it will mix the cendol properly because it has brown sugar and coconut milk, otherwise you will find it too much sweet in the bottom.. Cendol, Laici Kang and ABC "Air Batu Campur" is the most popular desert in Malaysia..
if u are fond of fish find your way to Jalan Bellamy for fish grills food stalls.
Tq apreachite my culture
Kampung Baru, right there smack in the golden triangle of KL, don't be deceived by the wooden house, the land plot of each house is worth multi-million ringgit, many interested parties have made countless offers to buy them but land owners won't budge to sell, they fought hard to preserve their village
hello food lover. come to Kota Bharu Kelantan and get a diff side and taste of Malaysia.
Look forward to it!
You are spot on girl. Anchovies does go well with beer.
You are doing well, keep eating spicy food and you will build tolerance..
Hi, you should go to Klang to try Bah Kut Teh which is Chinese traditional pork dish with soup. One of the must try food when visit to Malaysia 😉
Hehehe.
Already did, video coming soon 😉
You have to really shake up or stir the beans drink (cendol) to really enjoy it, the wrapped fish paste (otak-otak) is actually made from shrimps & better to eat together with rice..
Keropok lekor’s main ingredients are fish, sago flour, tapioca flour and others. It is a traditional snacks from the east coast (states of Kelantan and Terengganu). 👍
yes you are right🌿🌿🌿🌿🍁🍁🍁💨💨🤙🏻🤙🏻
That fish wrap is called otak-otak, very famous in S'pore. Masam means sour.

Kampung bahru is the most expensive village in Malaysia due to its strategic location in the middle of Kuala Lumpur City, and if you want to buy a land in kampung Bahru, it coz you about RM1million/ $200k
Wow 😳
@@TravelsonToast yes, Kg Baru is the only traditional kampung style left in KL. It's quite impossible for any land developer to try to buy Kg Baru from its multiple descendant owners. So Kg Baru will be left as reminiscent of the good old neighborhood days
Go to Kampung Baru 12 noon onwards…evening to night time will be more lively till like 3-4 am in the morning….The Uncle D restaurant that you showed, at dinner time they have grilled fishes… my friend said their grilled fish. is nicer than the one next to it. Try grilled sting ray fish if they have coz i think it’s the best fish for grill topped with sambal and eaten with sour sauce, and it is easy to eat too…I’m living in Kuwait and i’m going back to Msia for holiday nxt month and definitely will check that place out…
When you eat white rice and other dishes, for. example. the fish, ask for some curry gravy or the yellow curry to be put onto your rice so that your rice will not be so dry and you can. enjoy a tastier rice rather than just with the fish and sambal …don’t worry, they won’t charge you anything for the gravy..your whole experience of the meal will be different…i understand you have been to indonesia, and yes, they normally eat their rice with meat or fish and sambal…they don’t eat rice with much gravy or curry, they have many choices of sambal though.
Thanks for the tips, we are still learning about Malaysian cuisine and etiquette so this is helpful 🙂
@@TravelsonToast you are welcome…other recommendations, For Indian Muslim cuisine, which also called “mamak” restaurant ( mostly open 24 hrs)…go to NZ Curry house ( one near The twin towers) or Pelita Nasi Kandar or Saddam Nasi Kandar or some random mamak restaurant everywhere in the city…The cuisine in this kind of restaurant is a fusion mix of malay and indian cuisine, so some of their dishes has malay influence, such as daging hitam (black gravy beef), ayam bawang ( onion chicken) , ayam madu ( honey chicken) and the fried chicken too.
If you go for roti canai, try roti canai kosong (plain roti canai) or roti telur (egg roti canai) or roti sardine ( sardine roti canai, my fav)…they will give you few sauces like dhal, curry and sambal…locals normally mix the curry and dhal with sambal to get extra spicy kick…
for noodle dish i recommend you order “mee goreng mamak” ( mamak fried noodle, locals fav), and ask them to put fried chicken in it…I saw you order Dosa (locals say thosai) the other day, but i recommend you to order Thosai masala ( dosa filled with veggies and potatoes, my fav kind of thosai).😊
ok guys, till next recommendation , enjoy Malaysia!✌️
