Honestly for paper TCG it's been ass. Deck prices stuck at close to $1000 dollars with multiple $100 - $150 dollar staples you have to play or else you were at a massive disadvantage. From Snake Eyes, to Fiendsmith piles, to now Ryzeal Fiendsmith / Maliss it continues to be "if you're not willing to set a mortgage payment on fire every 5-6 months go fuck yourself".
There were cheaper competitive decks post Tier 0 Snake Eyes like Tenpai, Math Lab, Centurion, etc at the 2nd half of the game. It was rough in the 1st half ngl
Bad casual take. All the staples that you would need are cheap now. Don’t even NEED to play charmies to top a regional and you can play something that’s not the best decks and do well you know? And to be honest, if you were on a budget then you could just play 1 engraver in a list and just get into smith plays via moon. It’s not optimal but at least you can still do smith combo on a budget Paper TCG is actually looking like it’s shaping up to be really fun this format. If you use a bit of imagination then you can take a deck that won’t cost a monthly wage. Purrely seems like it could be pretty good this format for instance. Maliss and ryzeal will find it very hard to out an unaffected noir and purely cards are reprinted into the ground now
@@duanew587 "Just one engraver" is still $100 USD give or take for *one card*. Ya'll watch so players with maxed out rarity 1k+ decks and have lost perspective on what 'budget' is. Dude is coping, to say Its okay to pay 100 on a paper retangle lol. That Is why master duel is better, i can get It for free and play The competitive Without crying 💀
The last time I played Yu-Gi-Oh! was when I had the Pegasus starter deck. I started a master duel in Sept 2023 and I thought I can grind with a dark, magician deck.😂 i needed help. But now after a year of play i am to hit master one but i do wish i had someone to teach me and give me different outlooks
I can guarantee, new players are never looking at information at getting specific cards when they start up. They just wanna get to the feel good feeling of old YGO Unfortunately, there's no way to get a proper introduction to YGO unless you have a friend or are actively looking up everything you need to know as a beginner.
I related to getting socks as a gift big time haha. My mom was begging for a month to give me a gift and I insisted that I didn’t want a gift. She eventually got angry and said she is getting me something whether I like it or not. I then asked for socks 😂
This year I sent links to cards I wanted off of tcgplayer to my friends and family who asked what I wanted. My mother in law took a shot in the dark and actually got me a box of INFO so I was really stoked it wasn’t some bs!!
Nice. TCGPlayer links include search filters like "near mint" so it's very easy to share a link to exactly what you want and get the right thing. I keep a wish list.
Josh, Farfa,i love your podcast from the depth of my heart. BUT the amount of ads you guys put on here is not okay. Every 5minutes or so, there is an ad playing. That’s just too much.
42:30 I have this conspiracy theory that there is something in the matchmaking in the game that make things like what happened to Josh after trying sky striker happen more often than not. Thanks to all the data they have now they know what cards counter other cards and thus favor those matchups.
@@Top_Master_Duel MTG Arena has "hell queue" so it wouldn't be unheard of. It's totally possible to do matchmaking based on decklists and other games do it. Konami wouldn't be at risk of a lawsuit at all, it's their platform and they decide how matchmaking works.
@@Top_Master_Duel WOTC has never acknowledged hell queue, we only know about it because of leaks from the developers of MTG Arena. I'm also not saying that Konami 100% without question has hell queue just because MTG does, I'm just saying that they have the ability to. And for a lawsuit you need to prove damages. You can't just say "I don't like it, sue them." You need to prove that Konami did tangible monetary damage to you or the lawsuit isn't even getting picked up by an attorney.
This 100% is a thing. How else do you explain every time you add a card to your decks your next queued ranked game is guaranteed to see that card in hand and most of the time multiples. It’s like they hired brain dead monkeys to code this dog shit game lmao
I hate how players are always putting on tinfoil hats theorizing how "that card was semi limited as a warning shot so us players would understand how they feel about..." as if ocg konami could not just express "we are keeping an eye on this card" with real life human words if that's what they meant
@ I don’t know if I want that much hate rofl 🤣 I think a more healthy yugioh is like ryzeal format but it can be fun to play board break puzzle simulator with a Tenpai deck
I like it because people used to say the battle phase was irrelevant and there were no good going second decks. These people now hate Tenpai, so that's what you should be careful of what you wish for.
Honestly, I'm just sad that we finally have a deck which aim goal isn't set up 10 negates turn 1 and stops your opp from doing anything, and it has to be Tenpai. Also RIP BP ever being relevant ever again
RA010203 made the game way better. A shame Konami had to lose a bajillion players due emergence of many other tcgs to start doing some right things... But so far the best year in 20+ years of the game for me in terms of accessibility and options. Maybe 2014 was better due the formats being really roguish and accessible. But from last quarter of 2023 up here the game is in a better direction. I wonder if the mfs behind Konami toxicity were actually & finally fired tbh.
In thunder dragons for eg., allure is even better than pot of greed. But everyone agrees PoG is broken... But Josh said "a plus 1 isn't that big of a deal in modern yugioh", so I'm confused
I have said it once and I will say it again and again and again and again given the current climate of Yu-Gi-Oh unfortunately cards like droll and lockbird and artifact lancea are two cards that just have to exist same thing with the big rock himself. Because these cards only come up when there is overly aggressive searching and banishing in the format it's unfortunate because this should not be a thing in Yu-Gi-Oh however unless they fix the game to where they bring the power ceiling way down cards like this have to exist they just do I know that's an unpopular opinion and I'm not the first one to say it but it's an opinion I stand by
STOP the Snake-Eye hate. Good lord, we don't even have all the cards yet in MD & they want it killed. Let the deck live. They hit it so hard when the new Diabellstar came out it wasn't even good. At this point I'm worried we'll get Azamina in a state where the deck is like Kashtira was. Give it it's time in the spotlight. Nowbody can tell me we get Drytron/VFD turbo meta, Runick meta, Yubel meta, & Tenpai meta, etc but can't let Snake-Eyes Azamina exist? FOH with that nonsense. Josh kept telling everybody Tenpai was fine, & then was proven wrong. Farfa complains about Unicorn/Fenrir constantly & they simply are fine & not even remotely a problem. Let deck diversity happen. Wanting to ban everything decent just so you can have an easier time preparing for competitive play & then not wanting something as format warping as Tenpai pre-hit is insane. Honestly, the Duelist Cup was a sad case of karma for Josh. Hopefully, he'll bounce back hard with the next one. I actually wanted to see them repeat at Worlds. Him & Farfa are the only reason I even paid attention to Worlds. Wanting full power D-Link back so people can just play the same generic dragon end board for eternity is so dogshit. Asking for more dragon support is actually a joke. Farfa couldn't have been serious, I refuse to believe it.
Good Yugioh players are so bad at understanding what noobs can do. Tenpai is not beginner friendly. Swordsoul is not beginner friendly. Just because beginners learn some combo line sthey do not know what is behidn that logic. Give a child such a deck and let's see.
just wait until Josh mom finds out about Fiendschmidt
