    I've just bought this device, case and lanyard after having a lovely chat about gps devices with a nice lady I believe is your wife, Can't wait to head to the hills and try it out, I find it is a perfect size and not too big, which I had my doubts at first as it was difficult to tell from pictures, but I'm glad I went for the Montana 700 , thanks to your hiking and product videos

    Ive got rhe 67i. Purchased from yourselves. I really wouldnt mind a touch screen model and bigger screen, for my ageing eyes . Not bothered about the extra size and weight etc. Will my 1,25k mapping just swap over. Also what would happen to my inreach subscription John?

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, your 1:25k map card will swap into a Montana GPS unit. If you went to the Montana 750i you can also transfer your inReach subscription over onto the new unit. I hope this helps.

    Really enjoying all your montana 700 videos. I received mine a few months ago and still learning about all the features it has to offer. I use to use the older model in conjunction with the foretrex. I wanted to ask if it's possible to send a saved waypoint from a fenix 6 to the montana 700i? I use to share routes and waypoints from foretrex to older model montana and since I have upgraded I haven't been able to share between fenix and montana 700i. Any help would be appreciated. I can still send waypoint from foretrex to montana 700i but since I have a fenix 6 model I was hoping I could retire the foretrex.

      I can’t see any problems in what you are proposing. I have not personally tried it but you may have a problem as the genie will produce a fit file and it would be easier to drop a gpx file into your unit, but this could be converted if need be.
      If you have bought the unit from us (you will get free tech support) drop us an email and one of our tech team can work through this with you, they will get you up and running.
      I hope this helps.

    • @ukgpstraining

      Hi the unit comes pre-installed with Garmin's own Topo Active Europe mapping, for more detailed OS maps we have options on the GPS training website in the mapping options drop down boxes to add on either a full GB OS 1:50k Map card or a full GB OS 1:25k map card, this is supplied as a physical micro sd card installed in the back of the unit, I hope this helps.

    Does this show the direction change as you approach or as you get there? I Just bought one and haven't had chance to use it mountain biking yet. It would be no good when you're on the track junction for the change. The GPX line width can't be changed so you can see it from a distance, so you have to rely on the direction arrow and that would be no good when you zoom by a junction, so does it show the change as you approach?

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sadly you can't get it to function the way you are wanting when off road(which I agree would be far better).
      Sadly this is down to the OS map not being routable, as you do get type of functionality for your on road cycling.

    I currently use my mobile phone with OS maps. When it is raining the screen is useless.

    So, roughly 5h 37m walk used around 70% of the battery juice. Somehow I got much better results with my 700 (which I've got from you guys and am very pleased with!). Partially perhaps because I don't use Bluetooth on my device? Last year I took my Montana 700 for a week's worth of pretty rough (but rewarding!) hiking in the Lake District and I must say, 700 passed the test with flying colours . It's an excellent device though not without some minor flaws in software design. I always carry a printed TOPO 1:25k map, together with a compass, and Montana 700 completes my setup flawlessly. I keep its display off most of the time (the double-tap feature shown in the video) as I know the direction in which I'm supposed to go, and sometimes use the unit to verify or correct my bearing pretty fast. I reckon, if I kept Montanta 700's display on all the time it would probably run out of just as quick (especially with the Bluetooth on!) , but the way I used it the unit continued operating on a single charge for 6 hikes, around 40 (!) hours in total. That's a pretty impressive result if you ask me!

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well observed, but as this unit has been used in the office a lot during the week before I forgot to notice the backlight was 'always on' so for the first half of the walk. I was draining the battery with this. I thought nobody would notice, but well done for doing so! Glad you enjoying your Montana 700, its a lovely GPS unit.

      Thanks for you question, you can easily lock the screen on the Montana 700.
      As with any GPS unit, once you are actually navigating a route you don’t really need to touch it so once you have then locked the screen the screen continues to move.
      If you are looking for a true four season unit that you can use with gloves on do take a look at the GPSMAP series, but these do have a smaller screen.

      Now that's a big subject ..... I maybe need to do a video on that. To be honest, if you are a low level casual walker there is nothing wrong with a phone with maps on to back up your paper map, but as you have hopefully seen in this video a standalone GPS device offers so much more - great battery life, does not require a mobile phone signal, sunlight readable screen, a touch screen you can use with gloves on and lots more.

    Hi, I have a question: when you use the Montana with a loaded GPX track, is it possible to follow it by also activating the voice instructions of the navigator?
    My montana speaks only if I choose a point on the map (or a waypoint) and ask him to find a route, while if I load a track.gpx it just shows my position and the track itself, but doesn't give me any indication vocal. Maybe there are some settings to adjust? Thanks

    • @ukgpstraining

      @@ukgpstraining Hi, thank you for kind reply. Generally I use Montana for off-road trekkings, preferably with a pre-defined track.gpx in order to have already a complete path with some things to see (as hermitages, caves, convents, ruins and so on) along the trek. A friend of mine, using an Edge 530 has also voice instructions using the same gpx tracks, but this seems no possible with Montana, and it is strange because it's a higher level device.

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the Montana 700 the weather does come via your mobile phone data, but it is cached on the unit, so if you have no mobile signal for 2 hours it would have last been updated 2 hours ago (but it still shows you the forecast, rather than the live map, as you rightly stated).
