On the subject of ADB, you forget that he also wrote the biggest Abaddon dicksucking fiction in his Black Legion books and as a whole has a big theme of "cool chaos space Marines don't worship chaos". Saying he loves chaos is a bit of a stretch imo.
I thought that Abaddon was for sure going to betray Vashtorr in book three. Seeing as there was a tarot card that said “Chaos Always Betrays Chaos”. So I just assumed Abaddon was going along TILL they got their “end goal”.

Most books like gathering storm and arcs of omen read more like a units list. ‘X faction was there too with their shotgun guys and missile guys and bolter guys and they all went pew pew against the y faction with their’ blah blah. I was REALLY disappointed with gathering storm. The story as a whole was decent enough but the books read like crap.
GW is a modelling company. Lore is written by the marketing team. Just look at the primaris marines, they retcon whatever they want without any regards to consistency. BL authors sadly will always be the third wheel to the tabletop game.
It's not like they haven't got a stable of professional writers they can give a brief to and say to spin this out over a few thousand words. I wonder how many of the problems in the writing ar from withholding details as a hook to get the rest of the books.

They missed a perfect chance to add some dark mechanicum or a vashtorr faction. I thought that. I was listening to arbitrator Ian's breakdown of it and every second or third word from the lore was 40k techno babble for the sake of adding it.
Oh, just wait. There will most likely be a Dark Mech faction. Unfortunately, GW will probably drop feed any of the really big stuff over the next couple years so they can have constant releases.

I hate how this book is written and how vague everything is but in fairness to Abaddon it is suggested that he and Vashtorr talked privately and Vastorr explained everything to him, and he was both incredibly pleased by it and certain that it was worth tremendous sacrifice to achieve. So it seems that it is us who are in the dark, not actually Abaddon. He knows what he's fighting for. And it does mention that Abaddon is also confident that he could destroy Vashtorr if he needed to, senses teachery etc. So I think from his perspective he's just willing to give it ago and see how things play out, because the reward is worth the risk. So I don't think it's fair to call him so dumb because 1- He knows exactly what the goal is, and approves and 2- Is not worried about Vashtorr betraying him because he can take him out if needs be. That being said I still hate the books and how vague everything is. This comment made by a full on Abaddon fanboy....Man I love him.

Every setting has elements that can bring in things you do not like. It is just the nature that even good things can go that. Battletech sufferers from "no backies". 40k suffers from the "Grim dark." Only the evil sides, chaos, tyramods, and works, are allowed meaningful wins. It is not just GW but the "fan of 40k" that pushes that and all other factions at best can only have not losses. Abaddon and his "grim dark" armor is the perfect example of what can come from that mind set. THen even recon his 12 losts into win. You can have a grim dark setting but I want more complexity. I think chaos need to take a setting change loss but leave the splitting of the galaxy. I understand all of the immature whining about primaris marines to this day would be nothing compare to that whine you would get if something likethat happens.

The collective meltdown of elf players as Malekith was right...was worth all the horrid writing. Thus what makes elf players cry is objectively the best written work in human history. Ok I half jest. Really don't like elves though. From what has been described, I smell a Ward. At least a hand in it. End my oldmanrant like this, I'm not against pushing the narrative forward but warmahordes did it much better. Well until the end, then it jumped the shark. I do prefer a more sandbox approach to creative ips but if they really want to do this narrative stuff. Slow it down.
Let's be honest, Lucius or Angron being immortal, Abaddon not getting any conclusive win or anything is because GW are pandering to Space Marine and Imperium, this setting isn't supposed to move forward, this is why they're isn't anyone wiping out one of their ennemy in the setting. I think you're supposed to take the lore/ characters, and make up a story in your head about how the setting could move forward. The thing with bad guys is if they don't appear stronger than the protagonist it hinders they're credibility and their sense of purpose, but then again everyone is a dick in 40k, chaos, xenos, human, everyone, so I dunno, I feel like the meme "Abaddon is trash" is kinda played out when you got far worse writing than that in 40k
I'm new to your channel so not sure if you welcome or use viewers ideas for stories but hey... So I've always thought that a story with huge ork leaving the warp, crash landing onto a planet and running into a bunch of Fantasy or AOS orks could be quite fun.
What're Abaddon's failures? He's always gaining ground. Has split the imperium in half. Absorbed a staggering amount of territory into the Great rift. And all this with unreliable allies and underlings.

All we needed were 2X2inch home made tiles, and corridor sets from Space Hulk.

What're Abaddon's failures? He's always gaining ground. Has split the imperium in half. Absorbed a staggering amount of territory into the Great rift. And all this with unreliable allies and underlings.

Hey GW you opened the bottle 27 yrs ago , and now the creation you made named abaddon is watered down weak sauce. Its a shame.
If they revived horus it would ruin the story arc of the horus heresy. The whole point is the favored son who lost his way and ruined his fathers creation in the end.
I hope this nonsense ends and they stop doing this. It was bad enough that they overload a struggling market with overpriced hype that's not available, even when it is released, it's even worse that they don't even know their own history to tie it in with this rambling shitshow.
I tried, but at the end of the day, I have more important things to spend my money on then a regurgitated crap walls set, masquerading as Space Hulk.
If anything, it has made me pull out and dust off my Space Hulk sets. (WE were already playing this type of game back in 93-94, it didn't take overpriced hype to do it with.) All we needed were 2X2inch home made tiles, and corridor sets from Space Hulk.
