is there a reason for not using the parkour rolls in situations like this that they (at least by my knowledge) would work pretty well? 0:09, 0:40 . In parkour you never lead with the shoulder (or anything near it) because in an unknown situation with unknown variables like downward or forward force you can damage the shoulder. Again not criticism, just questioning
That's the point... they are practicing Systema rolls, which are based on slowing down and a rolling momentum, not anything that may slap, jerk, or pull on joins. If you notice the roll, it's not on the shoulder- it starts at the wrist and rolls up the arm and along the side of the spine.
wtfidonthaveaname but what I'm thinking is that this roll is not going to take nearly as much momentum as a parkour roll would without a good chance for damage, so I was wondering if there were other criteria for the decision, since I know as fact that this isn't as "safe", but maybe it allows you to do something else
IamHueGraves I think the reason is that in the roll they are trying to be slow and controlled so they can change direction at anytime during the movement. In some vidoes you will see them using guns and drawing them during the roll, so the arms have to be available also. I guess the difference in that usually in a parkour roll you are trying to slow down from a leap or carry on the movement into something else
97ma ...yeah it is, what do you think parkour is? And again, they are outside using obstacles, parkour was made for that, not dojo style rolls. Your going to mess your shoulder up if you try any roll but a PK roll with force and speed on concrete
No guys, because the systena rolls was designed for the “user” to hold a knife/pistol in their right hand, they roll like this so they wont accidentally hurt themselves... Peace
A great way of turning obstacles into allies. Similar to the principle of the design of Corner Shot.
Maximizing efficiency & utility in movement. Very useful
Yeah, I don't do systema but I can totally see adding this to my routine.
Using the table to roll back and armbar is sweet.
This is the kind of training i´d love to have...
Excellent!
