    Using the opponent's energy. If someone pulls you, push them. If someone pushes you, pull them.

    incredible movements, the attacker/student has a very smooth fall - very impressive to see. For those who think he is just falling, the Masters key movement is a split second before the attacker begins to fall. The student is falling casually because he can, and preserving his body.

    There is a great base for drills in this demonstration. First start with an impediment. No use of arms or foot movement and see what is possible. After spending some time doing this, bring back the arms/footwork etc and then see how effective your movement becomes. You can also do with this distance, start far range and move closer and vice versa. The same with weapons, working with and without. For me this is where Systema really shines. It encourages you to try and work from a disadvantage rather than assuming that you are going to be in a perfect situation.

    I love systema, and I think it's a great art. But that guy is throwing himself (he is quite good at it though!)

      He is good at ukemi. He isn't throwing himself, he loses his balance.

      As I said above, he is accepting the ground not throwing himself. Respect for the teacher also. He is still new here after many years in Aikido. Notice he isn't break-falling, though, as he's learned that no mats means another option is needed.

      He's cooperating - so he doesn't get hurt. Perhaps over co-oprating at the beginning, but Mikhail gets more real as he realises the ability to 'fall' cleanly.

    He's obviously not throwing him. I think the point of this is to practice weight transfer

    • @Synonomous
      @Synonomous ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You made a statement then said you think. Hmmm. The uke is an advanced aikidoka who Michael used to show not reacting to attempted grabs by fighting but instead to give support and then take it away. He's barely using his hands but using his movement instead. It's subtle but far more advanced than it looks. Uke used to breakfall before this until he found that working without mats made rolling a better option. He is training to accept the ground here, not attacking. Also 20 years ago. Uke teaches now.

    • @gort3969
      @gort3969 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Synonomous the statement is true. He's not throwing them. As for the purpose of the exercise I can only speculate but it does teach weight transfer and falling/rolling. Ofcourse you put this guy in an mma ring he won't last 10 seconds doing this kind of nonsense

    • @CuttingEdgeSystema
      @CuttingEdgeSystema ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@gort3969 did you know there's some MMA guys present at that session? "This kind of nonsense" is demonstrating some principles, not a fight simulation. Those principles work anywhere, like any good principles

    • @gort3969
      @gort3969 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CuttingEdgeSystema yea your right it's not nonsense but it reminds me of those steven segal videos where everyone runs at him, he swats his hand and they all go flying while people think it's for real. So long as everyone realizes those guys are really only jumping off the little bit of a push and not really trying to take down the master it's ok

    • @CuttingEdgeSystema
      @CuttingEdgeSystema ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gort3969 well Ryabko is far from being a Segal. But the guy is being thrown, you can see the power going in at some points. He does a very good job or protecting himself in the falls. It would be interesting to see how you coped.
