You need to try it to understand what you are seeing. I have been on the receiving end of Martin’s moves and strikes and even at 50% speed and power I could hardly stop myself from overbalancing, even when I did manage to regain my balance it was taken away from me in ways I never expected, and when punched its like a fright train hitting you. Please don’t judge by the video do try to experience Systema, with Martin if you can.

I had my first experience of Systema with Martin last night. I have seen it on video, but you can't say it’s like anything else, because it’s not, it is unique. And I comfortable in saying that after 6 years of Judo and 31 years of Ed Parker's American Kenpo. It is a special art no question.

i wanna try systema one day but the only problem i have with the art or better yet the posted videos is that the students never really use strenght or try to catch their balance once they've been unbalanced, as if they are willingly to go down with out any effort to fight back and also its easy to do things in slow motion cause you can think much clearer but in a real confrontation you're going to have to be fast and wont be as sharp

@Donkyfishy Hi. Oh most definitively yes. Martin used the "softwork" with us but I was in no doubt he could have snapped my arm at any time he wished. When we went onto knife work everything sped up and his control and skill was as constant at the higher (but in no way his highest I am sure) speed. This is a superb martial art. The conditioning work alone is worth its weight in gold for anyone martial artist or otherwise. Martin is excellent exponent of his art.

its done slowly, so your body learns how to naturally react to situations.. its way more useful than it appears to a person who has no experience in the art of systema

@akompsupport There are different kinds of training weapons used for diff scenarios. Vlad often trains with live bayonets and has mentioned using completely live blades in certain training situations for those who come against such things everyday (hostage rescue, personal protection, bouncer, Special Operative, etc.). I became comfortable using live blades in Silat before I came to Systema, but usually you use a metal-bladed (dull-ish) practice knife. Bayonets are great, they're plenty dull :)

@Donkyfishy yeah it will hold up at high speeds... because everything is reletive; if you work slow, then the strength and force that you use must also be soft and effortless, and the goal isn't strength, so if your opponent resists your move, you have to find a different/resistless way of taking them down

did you actually put effort into stabbing him and cutting him with the knife or where you just being careful not to hurt him? and also where you going at a slow speed or in real time speed? did you use all your strenght to grab the knife or just held it softly? if you where to try kill him for real, would he haved disarmed you as easily as he did? plz answer my question im very intrigued by systema since its so mysterious to me and i would love to try it

I would say I went at about 75 percent speed, almost at full speed.I did not worry about hurting him when you work with Martin your actually more concerned about him knocking you the fuck out.Plus, keep in mind I wanted to learn and I wanted to understand his movements and thought process. However, I was being a sneaky asshole when I had the knife. For ex sample, when he grabbed my knife hand I would drop the knife in the other hand and I tried to cut at his legs alot.It was like attacking a ghost

You could also say Aikido and Krav Maga contain elements of Systema. You don't know which way it is.

If you come from traditional martial arts, you will not get to understand this. If you, like me, deal with use of force continuously, you will love it. Using the body as a level and dealing with balance as a tool, is as real life as it gets. Try to control a mental patient who tries to attack you medical personnel with your "katate/tkd sport" and you will see yourself unemployed and broken.

Carlos Ruiz in all defence one thing karate will teach you is body conditioning one punch from a long time karateka will knoc someone out cold the counterbalance n stuff in this video helps but its not the ultimate defence in any shape or form

Systema looks like a combination of elements of Aikido, Krav Maga and Russian passion for alcohol.

@FusBoxe Martin Wheeler doesn't have a gut, Kevin Secours doesn't have a gut, Brad Scornavacco doesn't have a gut, Sonny Puzikas doesn't have a gut...... the list goes on and on... BUT... WHO CARES? They can still crush you. LOL... But don't take my word for it... try to spar with them....

martin is the real deal. I come from a cacc and bjj background and think I am pretty hot shit, and couldn't grapple him. he just wouldn't play along and I was going no where and wasting energy, I was suprised at the nothing I had... and then he made a fist in front of my face. I got the point. the method is so valuable, relax breathe move. the more simple the concept the longer it takes to live. but ive been at it 5 years and keep feeling like Im just about to have it.

@FusBoxe what is the purpose of your schoolkid insult? I mean, really, what are you trying to achieve? Do you think you're going to convert people away from Systema with this? No, what's really being said is "I do MA, so I am badass. And my MA is better than all other MAs. So I'm more badass that anyone who practices a different MA. Look how badass I am." It's so childish. Particularly on the keyboard

    yes.
I personally have been punched by him and I attacked him with a training knife. He acted as if he was half asleep when I attacked him.He kept turning my knife around on me so I kept looking at the point of my own blade not only that he kept knocking me on my ass over and over again
Buy his DVD.well worth the money. Also , check out Vald's DVDs on Russian Martial arts. But in a martin's DVD may be better as martin has an excellent command of the English language which Vald does not
