  • As we continue mapping out the Overland route we are creating through the Owyhee Canyonlands, we find that another route we had plotted was unpassable. These setbacks are part of the journey. We set out on this adventure, hoping to map out a fun route for other Overlanders to enjoy. You can only learn so much from satellite imagery.

Fishing, exploring, good friends, fillets in the cooler. This is what life is all about. And a beautiful camp site. No failure on my book.

From the top of Mahogany Ridge
    you can see forever
and forever is a long, long way
the desert rules- the first rule
you've got to know your way back home
and you'll be back to ride another day.
Roll on Owyhee, Wild Horse heaven, and I I hope it always will be . . .

Great and beautiful video. Ups. Downs. Backtrack. It doesn't matter. If you have a good time, THAT is what really matters. Glad to see you could stock up on fish while you were at the river too. Gorgeous area, for sure. Till next video, take care. Miss you too Daisy!!!

Good thing you did not try that section with that van. I had that road give away on my right rear tire going through there a few years ago. Only thing that kept me from going over was the axle caught. It was all I could do to get back into the Jeep to drive it out. Luckily locked low range gave me what I needed. Then I had to drive it again to get back out.
    Thanks for sharing! George.

"Failed" is a bit harsh though :). Overlanding is about exploring - if it doesn't always go according to plan, it's not a failure ;) but rather another learning experience.

Love that spot. My kids grew up swimming there in the 90's. I used to take the family camping there every July as its not far from my home. If you take a left after that river crossing it will take you back on top to another old ranch and then past the lava flow and back to the Hwy. If you do it some day look for petroglyphs near the top rim. Later..Tim ;)

Im not sure if you're already using it, but sentinel playground is a great satellite resource! sometimes the images arent the clearest, but they have up to date satellite images so long as the cloud cover permits. Definitely useful as were heading into the snowy season

Live in Portland. In 2018 I bought Subaru Crosstrek & had it lifted. Then..life. I’m finally getting ready to run away. Where do I measure (lowest point on chassis?) & how tall is a start for some of these trips? I wish there was a school to learn. I’m a 60 yr female & worry way too much! Thank you! Love all these channels. I learn so much.
