The real problem with the Saas bahu serials is that they teach women that assertiveness is not a desirable quality in a woman. They must live their life expecting and tolerating humiliation, never make a stand, and never have a goal of their own lest the harmony of the family break. Even the worst of villains are forgiven very easily because that is what it means to be sanskari. Serials like Anupama even though a typical saas bahu formula tried to do something different by showing a middle aged woman rediscovering her self after years of suppression but even that lasted only for a few episodes.
So true, my grandmother watches a serial called "bhagya lakshmi", lakshmi is the protagonist and her saas, nanand and her whole sasural used to humiliate her like anything, used to call her manhus, cheap and middle class and whenever her sister shaalu wanted to take stand of her, she always came with typical "chup, vo bade hai na"
Also in tv serials the rich people are always evil and look down at middle class people, which i guess forces many women to think bad about rich people. The kids also in these serial are so hecking irritating, those typical kids who always puts smile on everyone's face, are clear hurted and lectures bad people, that's why even some parents expect their really small kids to be like them.
And here when i watch a good inspirational anime (like haikyuu) my parents say me that I'm watching cartoons 😢 The truth is that they are the one who's actually watching cartoons 🤣 (Indian tv serials and most of the Bollywood movies)
I have watched Hip Hip Hurrey and trust me, it is waaaay ahead of its time. It doesn’t feel like it was aired from 1998-1999, it was so modern and still relevant. The only thing that you’ll miss is mobile phone as technology but rest, it’s worth our time. It’s a teen drama but above 30 would also enjoy it. Must watch show! Another show was Shararat: romcom, fantasy drama, which I believe many of us have watched. Those were the golden days!!❤

Dehleez was meant to be a short story approx. 3 months it is stated by the actress( swadhinta) herself and ek hasina thi was quite appreciated back then (my fav. Show) and considering its rival was balika vadhu or other shows at 8 p.m slot it actually stood out well.

it also tried to take same saas bahu trope , where bondita falls for anirudh when she wasnt even half his age , it just made the show go downhill , the innocence and charm and quickwittedness of bondita was lost , the second they started focusing on love story more than the actual purpose of show it went downhill , they got a divorce was a very good plot and they shouldve continued with the ' sakha babu ' , he was more of a fatherly - brotherly figure to bondita, more like a teacher , they couldve shown bondita choosing his love out of the influence of her child marriage (they literally spilled water over their hard work ) , which was the purpose anirudh wanted to achieve , they shouldve showed how a man and a woman can have a pure relationship , as friends , or as a teacher -student or brotherly or fatherly relation WITHOUT BEING RELATED BY BLOODLINE, how a man can sacrifice his all future for a girl so that she can grow into a strong independent person. It wouldve made the show more progressive and it wouldve touched its peak potential. BUT , what they did ? made the show more enjoyable to pedophiles who literally started shipping 8 year bondita with 28 year old anirudh. even from 2000-2010 they were still trying some new serials which were quite good..i remember hatim, left right left, shh koi hai, pyaar ki ye ek kahaani which was actually the first time vampires and werewolves like supernatural creatures were shown in indian tv and it was not bad at all...now its all about saas bahu...i stopped watching tv since 2011 and i havent watched it yet..i do watch some of the historical shows like maharana pratap and ashoka but that was also on youtube and other sites rather than on tv..

Some Indian families are like this unfortunately. But I agree, that people going through such experiences (in a way less dramatic and illegal way) are only going to be negatively effected by watching such shows. Your life is already negative, and then you also watch things that are 4x-10x times more negative in its storyline. It's a recipe for being stuck in a victimising cycle and never truly changing your reality.
I am 20 years old and I Love Korean Dramas as well as some TVF shows like Gullak or Panchayat or even 80s Tv serials like Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi or old Wagle Ki Duniya as they look relatable and I feel connected to them by heart. I feel that my previous generation had a great source of entertainment who had great sitcoms. I feel good that as a 2000s kid, I spent my childhood with Priyadarshan movies, reality shows like KBC & Big Money which I watched as well as played in real life, as well as shows like Best Of Luck Nikki or Suite Life Of Karan & Kabir as well as Gili Gili Gappa or Ghost Bana Dost instead of these Daily Soaps as my mother never watched. I have a six year old cousin and I feel good that in Indian dramas she sees some old kids shows like Best Of Luck Nikki or Shararat and Korean Dramas, which is watched by almost every youngster in my family, Thanks to my Chachi.❤🧡💚💙

Today's serials make people loose their faith on love and humanity. And most sad thing is people still watch these shows and literally fight over the Characters. I haven't seen any normal show where the female lead is strong. And strong independent stablished Characters are always portrayed as villains. The real problem with the Saas bahu serials is that they teach women that assertiveness is not a desirable quality in a woman. They must live their life expecting and tolerating humiliation, never make a stand, and never have a goal of their own lest the harmony of the family break. Even the worst of villains are forgiven very easily because that is what it means to be sanskari. Serials like Anupama even though a typical saas bahu formula tried to do something different by showing a middle aged woman rediscovering her self after years of suppression but even that lasted only for a few episodes.
Yaa in starting I also felt that anupama is unique but after some time it changed.
So true, my grandmother watches a serial called "bhagya lakshmi", lakshmi is the protagonist and her saas, nanand and her whole sasural used to humiliate her like anything, used to call her manhus, cheap and middle class and whenever her sister shaalu wanted to take stand of her, she always came with typical "chup, vo bade hai na"
Also in tv serials the rich people are always evil and look down at middle class people, which i guess forces many women to think bad about rich people. The kids also in these serial are so hecking irritating, those typical kids who always puts smile on everyone's face, are clear hurted and lectures bad people, that's why even some parents expect their really small kids to be like them.
And here when i watch a good inspirational anime (like haikyuu) my parents say me that I'm watching cartoons 😢
The truth is that they are the one who's actually watching cartoons 🤣 (Indian tv serials and most of the Bollywood movies)

I have watched Hip Hip Hurrey and trust me, it is waaaay ahead of its time. It doesn’t feel like it was aired from 1998-1999, it was so modern and still relevant. The only thing that you’ll miss is mobile phone as technology but rest, it’s worth our time.

it also tried to take same saas bahu trope , where bondita falls for anirudh when she wasnt even half his age , it just made the show go downhill , the innocence and charm and quickwittedness of bondita was lost , the second they started focusing on love story more than the actual purpose of show it went downhill , they got a divorce was a very good plot and they shouldve continued with the ' sakha babu ' , he was more of a fatherly - brotherly figure to bondita, more like a teacher , they couldve shown bondita choosing his love out of the influence of her child marriage (they literally spilled water over their hard work ) , which was the purpose anirudh wanted to achieve , they shouldve showed how a man and a woman can have a pure relationship , as friends , or as a teacher -student or brotherly or fatherly relation WITHOUT BEING RELATED BY BLOODLINE, how a man can sacrifice his all future for a girl so that she can grow into a strong independent person. It wouldve made the show more progressive and it wouldve touched its peak potential. BUT , what they did ? made the show more enjoyable to pedophiles who literally started shipping 8 year bondita with 28 year old anirudh. Thankyou for reading my rant.

even from 2000-2010 they were still trying some new serials which were quite good..i remember hatim, left right left, shh koi hai, pyaar ki ye ek kahaani which was actually the first time vampires and werewolves like supernatural creatures were shown in indian tv and it was not bad at all...now its all about saas bahu...i stopped watching tv since 2011 and i havent watched it yet..i do watch some of the historical shows like maharana pratap and ashoka but that was also on youtube and other sites rather than on tv..

Some Indian families are like this unfortunately. But I agree, that people going through such experiences (in a way less dramatic and illegal way) are only going to be negatively effected by watching such shows. Your life is already negative, and then you also watch things that are 4x-10x times more negative in its storyline. I am 20 years old and I Love Korean Dramas as well as some TVF shows like Gullak or Panchayat or even 80s Tv serials like Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi or old Wagle Ki Duniya as they look relatable and I feel connected to them by heart. I feel that my previous generation had a great source of entertainment who had great sitcoms. I feel good that as a 2000s kid, I spent my childhood with Priyadarshan movies, reality shows like KBC & Big Money which I watched as well as played in real life, as well as shows like Best Of Luck Nikki or Suite Life Of Karan & Kabir as well as Gili Gili Gappa or Ghost Bana Dost instead of these Daily Soaps as my mother never watched. I have a six year old cousin and I feel good that in Indian dramas she sees some old kids shows like Best Of Luck Nikki or Shararat and Korean Dramas, which is watched by almost every youngster in my family, Thanks to my Chachi.❤🧡💚💙

When i was in hostel, mba 2011-2013, i had peers whi would tell me to change the channel from fox traveller to these regressive serial which they loved to gulp.
Earlier we had great shows like Aarohan, Sea Hawks, Banegi Apni baat, Hip Hip Hurray, Sa regama, Boogie Woogie, Tara, Campus, Chunauti, Shanti, Just Mohabbat, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Khichdi, Flop show, Ulta Pulta, Rishtey, Fauji, Saans, Kora Kaagaz, Gubbare, Gudgudee, Paying Guest etc.
