And in return she Always gets All the pain, hardship, and responsibilities .. Now a days there is a concept going on Star plus that You have to share your husband with another woman too😬🤦🙄 that is the basic story line of the show?? Pathetic These serial writers/ makers needs a psychiatric treatment 🙄 Really
That is what they want to show...what kind of problems she goes through her life...my mom relates to that serial alot because she'd also faced similar kind of problems...how this society and her family dominates a woman...
The fact that the only reason why she left her husband was his infidelity and not his abusive demeanor makes me cry.... she endured so much abuse, pain and yet the ahe keeps on defending her ex husband for being a virtuous father and son... bruhh
But you have to realise that's a very true depiction of society as well , male ego is something very realistic but while they don't show us that in the show they have spent alot of moments together as well. It's in hindsight that you find a relationship toxic or you label it as toxic but when you actually truly love someone these things seem to be a bump in the road.
Her mother in law is too smart... she got her son remarried to a smarter, more educated and working woman who brings in money but did not want to lose the free maid service that Anupama provides. So she conveniently says "Anupama is now my daughter and will stay with us!" :D like what?
My take on the show is that the way Anupama behaves is a well portrait picture of how majority of Indian women actually respond to abuse. There are women who are finally taking stand for themselves but still majority of them feel bad or guilty for being happy after getting out of an abusive marriage. The character arc of Anupama is real and not perfect like how we expect.
@Parth Choudhary agreed, it's extremely difficult to see this always. As of Jammy, it's kind of a privilege that shows in this review. when someone doesn't go through toxic households they don't have the reality in mind. he judged the show with the image of perfect female he had in his mind while we see the reality.
It's really sad though that the women like Anupama who are a bit naive and kind gullible are still what people want women to be. Like around me everybody gives compliments for being a 'seedhi saadhi ladki' whereas a smart woman who stands up for herself is always taken as shrewd and somebody who steps on others to move forward in life.
Exactly and still daily soaps Making them an ideal role model for women is what makes me angry like no your female lead can do wrongs too she can have flaws too and she can have her shortcomings yet she can be strong .
@@varsha5250 Right!!! In these shows it's like if a female character makes mistakes she cannot be forgiven, she is now believed to be the biggest evil who won't ever do anything wrong and if they are good they have to be people pleasers and really submissive(repressed). But when a male character even purposely is destroying lives he is shown as someone who just lost track but is basically a good human. Like in Anupama many times we see that sometimes Vanraj is guilty and still into Anupama. I don't think it might happen but I just hope that they don't do something like making Anuj actually a bad character and Vanraj's redemption and then him and Anupama together again or something because so many times in shows it actually happens.🥲
The only thing more annoying in this show than the stereotypical “I’m a progressive woman BUT lemme just act completely submissive and put my life on hold for others because women should always be selfless” is Anupama’s husband’s fake ass moustache lmao.
Only thing I can conclude from this review is that Jammy had a healthy househould, and haven't experienced toxic parenting or abuse. I'm glad things like these never happened to you. I wish it never happens in future too.
And from your comment, I guess you have faced your parents fighting like this.... Don't worry friend, work on yourself and be financially independent, Its important
I think, I a college going 20 year old girl cannot relate with it, & find it not so progressive or some things problematic. But my mother, aunts who watch this show find it relatable & comforting / encouraging. Our previous generation women lived like that. Gave their everything to their families, husbands, children like it's the reason of their existence. & getting out of that mindset is still almost impossible for them. So I give kudos to this show for being realistic, and also FINALLY showing character development.
@@raja-jl9os I'm not Indian btw. My point was the target audience of these types of shows are not us, the youngsters. It's for our elder generation & it's better than other star plus or colours tv shows imo
I also feel the mistress, Kavya, is made a villain just for the sake of it... There are many moments where what she says is actually right, like why can't Vanraj make tea for himself when both of them are equally tired, etc.... Baatein toh wohi sahi kar rahi thi...
@@mahimaperiwal5866 yaa right In that dumb Shah parivaar she thinks practically....like the way they potray their character is to look villan even even eangel mom charcter too..
Yes everyone was blaming her ki usne Anupama ka pati Cheena. Jaise vanraj to doodh pita bachha tha jise lollipop 🍭 dikha kar kaboo mein kar sakte hain😒😒😒
Kavya isn't made a villain just for the sake of it. Why do you think the makers put some moments where she is actually right? It's actually nice story writing that she too was given depth as a character.
Well my mil also watches this show, and the change in her is like, she expects me to leave my PhD degree for household works, leave my job to only cook for her,btw she is completely healthy and can work for own self, she expects me to wake up at 5:30 in the morning, cook for her, even lunch, leaving the house at 9:30, working whole day out, again getting back at 8pm, then cooking again, getting to sleep at 12. And even if my husband wants to have a beautiful conversation with me,she is just furious. Always fighting for some reason. So she might be getting inspired by baa character.
This really shows the mentality of our society. Many people believe that Women should have self respect but in limits.Anything beyond that is a direct question on her character and morals
The way this show romanticises abuse and lack of empathy always irks me. Just because it's a female centric show, doesn't mean it's progressive. Reminds me of a dialogue my mother said once- everyone wants a Sita-like wife, but no one wants to be a Ram-like husband.
While Rama's trust and affection for Sita never wavered, it soon became evident that some people in Ayodhya could not accept Sita's long captivity under Ravana. And instead of standing up for his beloved wife, he banished her while she was pregnant with his children into a jungle. I don't think I would want a husband who would abandon me just because what will people say.
@@jiazacharia8161 dange karwayenge aap. On a serious note, yes I wholeheartedly agree with you. It's just that one can't express any criticism against any religious symbol because bhakts are always waiting to abuse you for it. So I stick to their narrative to be safe
Agreeing to everything.. but one of the major reasons why this serial is so famous is because the mass can relate to it. Majority of the housewives of India are treated exactly like Anupama.. strangely the husbands also play the exact role of that of her husband. Hence it is just a glimpse of the pain that a normal wife, homemaker faces in daily basis.
@@noodle3851 coz it's a reality of a lot of houses,i am adult woman from same household environment and how each character interact(not just Anupama) gives me a sense of like its my own story somewhat, plus their lives are not super rich like other shows.
I think the way to look at Anupama is that her character is a classic example of grooming. She got married at a really young age I'm assuming when she was around 18 years old. Probably was always thought as a young child to always respect your elders and not back answer your in laws. As a young girl got groomed by her in laws that she is nothing more than a servant and a child bearer. I mean there are many people who have gone through endless grooming and abuse but will stand with their abuser.
i guess why this small progression took 250+ episodes was to show that everything is not going to suddenly be okay after the divorce. People around you, your in-laws WILL talk and gaslight you, and they wanted to show that part of the journey as well. The main part of the journey is not only to get out of the toxic relationships, but to overcome it as well.
I agree. It also perfectly depicts what's it like to be in a abusive relationship and how hard it is to leave because this is a very real thing that happens to victims of abuse irl because as humans, our brains don't understand good or bad what it does understand is the sense of familiarity or certainty which victim's brain knows they will get if they just choose to stay with the abusive person.
And most importantly we indians especially mothers really get attached to our family not just husband and its tough to leave all that behind and start a new life it's a tough choice to make
Ikr the way her mother in law support her but by times turns against her same to toshu, pakhi, kavya even vanraj for some its annoying but damn it's reality
I totally understand it is to show the realism though for todays people that see high quality kdramas/netflix shows/anime/web series that can show realism even if they don't have 300 eps to show it In small bite sized eps like 26/12 eps its Probably gonna be hard to sit through due to lack of time (obv some ppl D say if you cant sit through it dont watch it,but this applies for majority of people today and its a demand for todays entertainment market and entertainment market changes by the public demand so its not incorrect for the audience to voice what they like and dislike so creators can make those changes for people). Also lot of shows especially Indian shows get repetitive for the show to drag on and reduce in story quality as they get longer unlike some anime where long anime get good So thats a trait indian tv shows can try to fix and deliver condensed quality than quantity alone. And i get that they probably wont be able to deliver as high quality in bite sizes as anime/kdramas/netflix shows/webseries do all of a sudden So taking smaller steps can be an option..eg. trying to end the serial in 300/150/100 eps and then less and less till its Enough..
I get frustrated when she justifies her actions to the shah's ALL THE TIME, like why she's late, why is she working with 'another man', why she took a divorce etc etc. She had many chances to leave the toxic household but no, her priority is her family, (it would have been ok if the family respected her) EVEN when they comment on her character CONTINOUSLY, literally disrespect her all the time, never supported her 'work out of the house', called her a loser and so so so many more thing. I just feel now she should just leave the house and the writers should really get to the point. P.S: GREAT GREAT GREAT review Jammy!!! Thanks a lot!
That was my biggest pet peeve throughout. The family you claim loves you other than two or three members, everyone makes your life living hell for over 300 episodes. Why endure so much pain, is it the duty of a wife? I call BS
@@TriedRefusedProductions Agreed, thankfully this show is kind of on track but after 200+ episodes of continuous unnecessary comments, drama and family gatekeeping, and hypocrisy of "BAA"😂
@@TriedRefusedProductions Anupama is the reason why All came home..Baa is of old times so she cannot approve or appreciate her it's a natural phenomenon..But her father in law supports her in Every way possible why can't you see that' Anmol????She now sticks to what is told by Kavya as her trick worked on Kinjal's daughter too...
Never place your trust on Indian serial makers. They can even show her to be evil with a motive of money later on. It's ok now but you know how Indian serial makers are. The best example is YRKKH running for 12 years with the same storyline as follows- [Problem(mother-in-law gets angry)-Problem solved- Celebration or picnic after problem solving-During celebration, a bad omen is shown and ads are put to show the next problem(which will be repeated, don't worry we don't have that much creativity)- Accident or coma- Family reunion at hospital(Prayers and crying starts)- Time leap of 2 to 10 years(Anyways doesn't matter because the actors are the same and it has already been done 2 or 3 times)] I am not saying being sanskari is wrong but atleast show some versatility in your storyline for God's sake. These 2 shows are still watched by my parents and many others. They claim that it is different from others but I don't see any difference between these shows and other shows apart from the celebration of every festival "by breaking the 4th wall". The only Indian TV serial that was unique from others was Everest, which as expected. did not top the TRP ratings because yahaan toh saas bahu drama hi bhikta hai. And if you think I watch these serials, I don't watch them but my parents do. SORRY FOR THIS LONG RANT BUT THIS IS THE REALITY OF MOST INDIAN TV SERIALS.
This show also taught me not to act like a brat. After seeing Toshu and Pakhi and being so disgusted 🤮 by their acts I understand and try much harder to understand my parents, their problems and give them company. I hope no actual parents get children like these two mini psychopaths
This show literally shows the reality of the society...but when she justifies her each and every action to the members...I get so angry...the way Ba being a woman puts her down is so frustrating...but seeing her rise or when she stands up for herself is really refreshing and kinda makes my heart happy! Devika is literally a friend everyone needs! Plus now the serial is lot better than before.
I know it is frustrating. The writing is messy, but I can say years of abuse and trauma has made Anupama afraid to take a stand for herself. I tried watching the show and I couldn't stand more than 5 minute of it. But as someone who has been through systematic abuse through the hands off a narcissist, I can say moving out of the toxicity and ahead in your life is hard. Especially if there's little to no support from your so called relatives. It took me five years to move out after realising I've been abused my entire life. And I still am afraid of people, I can't even make friends. I wish the writers could have focused on it more than the drama. So many people don't even realize they've been abused or are being abused. Had the serial gone on that track of realising abuse and dealing with it, it would've been better. But I can still understand why it took Anupama so long to stand for herself and try and move out
Exactly. The fact that V (the ex husband) abused Anupama for like 25 years and that the ones who stands by her is just her son, his gf and her daughter in law + fatheril, imagine how hard it would be to grow and leave that behind when your own children and mother in law hate YOU for leaving Vanraj when he CHEATED ON HER. And I wouldn't say this is unrealistic cuz I have seen this happening in many household and women could barely leave them.
The show was good it's was progressing little by little or so i thought but even after so many episode it was fluctuating and going back and forth. The bahu of anupama is a working woman but she also has to do household chores while kavya does do that as it is being handeled by anupama but Kavya is a vamp acc to this show there sooooo many things i can't even stop talking about it so i will just let it be. The show never progressed according to me ofcourse there were progress but then they used to go back to where they were so it's constantly fluctuating
Exactly. It takes a whole lot of mental and emotional shift to dare to come out of it. I have not watched the serial but from whatever I have heard from my friend, I feel they should have explored and shown the inner side of what makes women stick to toxic relationships.
You forgot to mention/ acknowledge Bapu Ji's support towards Anupama, I mean taking into consideration the culture and mindset of middle-aged/old people that exists in such households, he is quite progressive.
Also, existence Rakhi Dave shows typical disrespectful, saasu ma and gossipmonger kind of women who wear the mask of modern dressing and style to cover up their old-school thinking.
The most annoying part is that Anupama is a progressive women and talk about women equality but even then she gives household chores to her bahus rather than her son. You know that where she has clash with Kinjal on household chores. But I agree with you jammy on why this show make you stuck with it. I am stuck & it is my guilty pleasure 😜😂
Not only that when kavya tells anupuma to hire a maid she refuses saying ghar ki aurato ko sara kaam karna chaiye..when her dil refuses to to work since since she had a long tiring day and. give savage reply to baa she has proplemm see in one track paritosh eangel wanted to move out since they needed privacy she refuses saying parivar todna nahi chaiya...moving out doesn't mean all your relation with family is over this women mentality is actually proplamatic..
She never made bahus do chores. Everyone in house helped . Their maid was temporarily on leave and even Anupama's mom was sick . And she fired the full time maid bcz she was troublesome.
I know her character development was slow but let's not forget it's the reality. What they showed was nothing wrong as sadly it's a mirror of most households here. My Uncle was so toxic that he used to dominate us and abused my mum n dad mentally. His wife divorced him but he showed no signs of dukh, doesn't even contact w his first son.
yes very tru, we need to understand transformation doesn't happen instantly some illogical movies might show after break up that person transforms into a whole new person but in reality people need time to soak in the pain. when it is family you just don't give up like "haha jao bhaad mein" u always try to mend things n sacrifice at least thats what moms do ryt?!, now the time has come she has realized it n moved on. this serial is a mirror to society n is dng really well if there is hypocrisy at some point just ignore it and soak in the good part.
You might be from a very progressive family to find Anupama a fictional character. It's a reality I have seen so many women living exactly the same life daily. However the character develops over time and Anupama takes hold of her life. But the women in our society are still struggling to take up the stand because that's not easy
I know a lot of these kinds of women but their storylines are not like Anupama. Anupama is progressively regressive tv serial. You clowns boycott bollywood and then watch this garbage lol
what's hilarious is that the male lead (the husband) was in the newspaper the other day and was talking about how he thinks Indian TV should have its own National Awards too. like SIR look at the show you're in. are you THAT delusional🤣🤣🤣
He is no doubt a wonderful actor and I understand he wants recognition for TV actors but seriously the itv is full of crap shows nowadays and rarely among currently working itv actors anyone is good. Anupama and Imlie rn have best actors
I completely agree that everything this serial showcases 'should' not be the norm. Every woman should take a stand for herself and leave the toxic household at the very first chance she gets. But I also cannot ignore the fact that most women 'actually' behave like Anupama. I know this show is problematic but also holds a sense of trueness in its depiction. Anupama at least left her husband, a very late decision of course, but in real world most women cannot even think of it and go on to live a sad and torturous life. A huge fan of your "in front of the camera" reactions Jammy. Amazing review as always. And do you watch all the episodes completely or skim through them?
True that, there are several ladies in my family who still couldn't leave her toxic husbands and in-laws !! And that's the reason why this show is soo soo popular as it connects to most of the women!
@@Raj_wardhan123 People like you will always treat feminism as a mockery..unless you would face something like this everyday in your household and among the people nearby you!!
I am actually witnessing my mother getting so inspired and learn so much from this show. I've never ever watched any indian daily soap but this show has my heart because it really touches the actual issues the indian women face. Idgaf about the character development or anything else because this show actually shows the reality. My mother has started to wear what she always wanted to wear and is planning to start a business soon. She always wanted to this in her heart but never had the courage but she really got inspired to do whatever she wanted to in her life after watching this show.
Don't worry. People take what they want to take from a show. This guy took different approach. The generation of 90's took different perspective. Appreciate the difference and let people do and watch what they like and can relate to.😊

The "sorry sorry... " part reminded me that how women (especially in Indian households) are so apologetic of their actions. So much so, that there's a feeling of guilt whenever they make decisions for themselves or just put them first in life!
I don’t watch this show but my mom does so I saw some of it. There is line in this show that I really liked the father in law says to Anupama that “from childhood boys are taught to feel proud and girls are taught to feel guilty “ which is sad but true
@Raman Sharma well even though it's not true I do wish that one says sorry only when they are wrong and not when they are right or taking control of their own life.
@Raman Sharma My entire point here is that no one should feel apologetic of their actions, when they are not wrong. Be it men or women. Also, I would highly recommend not trivializing someone's pain to highlight someone else's. Men and women can both be wronged!
Hey jammy!!! Seen a lot of your reviews and the best thing about them is your neutral take on any of them. But ig, this time you probably sat with a mindset to bash the serial and review felt a little biased. The serial has its fair share of negatives but, the positives also cannot be neglected. We need to understand that the audience that serial targets is mostly from middle class families or lower class families where divorces are not pretty much common, even to this day. The fact that it took time for the main lead to get divorced and move on in life is pretty much possible and believable. Her own family had made her realise that she was of no worth and to come out of that zone and create a life for oneself is not easy. Even in real cases, many women keep on bearing their family abuse without raising any voice against them because this is what they are taught from the very start that "kuch bhi ho jaaye ghar nahi tutna chahiye, sehn karna aana chahiye". The cases might even be much worser. Atleast in the serial, anupama was lucky to have support of many good people around, be it her daughter-in-law, her son or her father-in-law giving the serial an optimistic approach. But in real world, sometimes even that becomes difficult and it really takes years for a woman to come out of a toxic relationship, because there are many other factors included such as children and finance. Maybe, the character development was slow but, it was realistic. Comparing the serial to the trash that is shown on the tv, it actually is worth-watching...
It honestly baffles me how even after so much evolution of cinema in the world, subtlety and nuance doesn't even exist in Indian TV shows across channels.

I think anupama still teaches a lot to indian audiences rather than other serial cuz she is portraying the condition of Indian housewives rather than just being perfect..and a lot of womens are getting inspired
Jammy, do give Kuch rang pyar ke a try! Season 1 especially, as it has been written by Durjoy Dutta who brought in a subtlety and realism in the otherwise regressive Indian TV
The worst thing is, every woman knows another woman like Anupamaa. The toxicity is accepted as a way of life, to some degree even in the most progressive of households. I am not defending the show's regressiveness, but this is the reason that most people connect to it. Also, it is a point to note that, as stated in the show, Anupamaa was married very young and comes from a very poor background, so this is literally the only life she has ever known. Again, not defending the regressiveness, but this is how most households are which is why Anupamaa's actions make sense. Not saying they are right and of course it needs to be changed, but this is very close to ground reality. And lets not forget that we live in a country where suffering is considered a virtue and is way too ingrained in a woman.
Hindi serials : She is a working woman ..so automatically she is non sanskari ...wears western attire ..must be a vamp ...indian wear and housewife automatically qualifies for a human excellence award ... everyone's at home no one works , roam around wearing suits and kilos of jewellery..and have to be a Singhania or Oberoi a.k.a wealthy AF.
This idiots need to learn that sanskar and education is two different things and can go hand in hand, well the character of kinjal is good but i wonder why she married paritosh
Jammy Jammy Jammy. I disagree with you about this portrayal of Anupama. I don't watch the show but when you say that she lectures everyone but she herself keeps going back to a man that berates her, it is understandable to me as a woman. She wants to believe that she is an independent woman but she is still a homemaker woman who has lived in the Indian society all her life. She has internalized so much of what has been told to her, what she has seen all her life, what has been expected of her that the subconscious mind doesn't let her Stop Trying. And I get how frustrating it is to somebody who is watching (including friends and family) but it's something that has been HAMMERED inside our brains since we were what, 2 years old? I think I actually like this portrayal because the Independent strong woman who just walks out and changes things for herself is a less relatable character. This can at least empower women and let them see that they have been in the same cycle and help them find their way out. It can also help get rid of the whole "If I don't walk away from this behaviour, maybe I do deserve it. or I don't actually wanna go away: and let them actually see how far they have come even if it's only a few steps. Might actually try watching it!!!
Still I would consider anupma a revolutionary character if she did walk out Many women don't because it is not common. But that does not mean it's right A character like anupma should have been revolutionary , not relatable . I agree with Jammy that the show is like a pendulum , with some good aspects and a bit more bad ones No disrespect tho to anyone who likes it !
When we talk about how long Anupama endured the toxic family, I think we are forgetting how much of a pressurising situation it must be to leave it all behind. No doubt she should have realised the toxicity earlier, but I feel her over the top optimism must have stopped her. Her upbringing, her dependability on her ex husband, the society have all played a major role in her life. So escaping the years of conditioning and the uncertainty it brings is quite difficult to digest.
Sometimes I give her the benefit of the doubt. That this woman has been living in a toxic environment for 25 years so like how you have groomed yourself to try to cover up their behaviour and forgive them for 25 years. But then I just wish for her to come out of that shell.
@@mahimaperiwal5866 Exactly. Because as women we have personally experienced bits and pieces of Anupama's life. Standing up against your own is extremely taxing.
I think we need to take one thing into account before being judgemental- the serial somewhat showcases the reality of many many many households, being very much effective in doing so. I kid you not, the reality of many families is far more worse and very much more frustrating and confusing than the actual show, and maybe, *maybe*.. the show trying to depict this is actually justified in doing so. Although I do understand the thoughts where everyone is coming from because who would want to sit through daily and repetitive toxic drama instead of just going on with a more convincing and 'feel-good' story.. But, I really am happy with the progress the show has made! And yeah, great review as always.
Anupama is indeed a revolutionary show. Yes, it has a very slate plot-speed but still it depicts the real situation of patriarchial small town society of Western India. She is fighting back but not giving up her generosity and maternal affection. The characters like Samar, Nandini and Kinjal also showcase issues faced by youngsters.
@@pageantindie7396 Yes, divorce on basis of infidelity is mostly filed in urban areas because majority of Indian rural women and even men don't know about divorce and its legal procedure. Also, high divorce rate doesn't not suggest high rates of toxic marriage. Instead it shows that there are high rates of women and men in urban areas who escape and free themselves from toxic marriages. We don't have any civil court data. But according to sessions court data, crimes committed because of infidelity are higher in small town areas ( not rural or urban areas). Because majority of men in those areas migrate outside of the town in big cities, staying away from their wives for long times. And cheating mostly happens in long absence of the partner.
Our daily soaps are way more complicated than any Nolan movie. Characters coming back from dead, traversing different timelines, sudden generation leaps, flashbacks to earlier eras, triggers facilitating lost memories to return. 🤦♂️

It’s more like women should be “given freedom” adhering to the morals and virtues typical for a woman because of course, rules are different, crossing line is different for a husband and a wife. A man is shown barbarous only once he crosses “his line” i.e. cheats and marries another woman, while going out with women and coming home late is okay in the eyes of the family. This show touches the very surface on showcasing that there’s a disparity in the “crossing line” itself.
I so agree with most of what all you said about the show (It completely is like beating around the bush in those 300 episodes, which made me leave the show in between so many times)... But the current development is so much praiseworthy - specially the way Anuj's character has been written (Devika and Anuj are my favourite characters). His love for Anupama is so pure, so mature and lovely... His distant pure glances, the beautiful shayaris, the 90s music and his subtle dialogues.. (Even his dreams are so pure, not at all over the top - Just that subtle distant romance).. I have never ever seen such a beautiful male character on TV.. I just wish they keep it like that and also wish that they do not hurry up with their love story.. Anupama has to develop feelings for him but it should be a slow burn pls!
Why do I feel that this twist in the show won't stay long... I for some reason have an intitution that as soon as Anuj feels that he is causing a disruption between Anupama and her kids/ family, the makers will do a tata good bye and send him to america, ending his character. Hope that doesn't happen ;'(
Anupama doesn't have two wives.... That's why this show is special..And the fact that Anuj Kapadia consider the family as his after being insulted so many times is also unique..Look at it this way,He never tells Anupamaa anything just runs away..No hero does that without saying to just and we'll talk later...
Thing that I appreciate Anmol the most for, is that he watches all the available episodes of the show before coming to its conclusion or review. That's really incredible job. And that's why I can trust him with 'Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai', which is a 90s based show and has beautifully shown the transitional 90s era in terms of the progressive thoughts. Plllleeeaseeee watch it Jammy.
Yes ...but liked it upto their college days...its fun cute and noatolgic..but my god the time of their marriage it was horrible..i cant watch that part
Yep, that was probably the last TV show I watched continuously but it's later half got kinda stale when they left their school and all that. It was truly something fresh up to that point.
@@shravani165 agreed....I watched it till the college track too. I didn't continue it after marriage. I felt it was different and couldn't really match up to the previous track.
Jammy watch the first two seasons of Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi, I guarantee you won't regret. It's among the best itv shows in recent times and has all the elements that a good show must have and most importantly is realistic! You'll feel quite relieved from the headache you get from watching these shows!
When the quality of your daily shows are so low that you see these mediocre shows as masterpiece, then you'll realise how bad your daily soap standards are. Actually this show is grifting on women empowerment and give illusion of progressive thinking when in reality it isn't. I would call it capitalism women empowerment which has nothing to do with actual empowerment and feminism.
When You are bashing the bad ones you should appreciate the good ones as well. You should definitely watch "KUCHH RANG PYAR Ke AISE BHI", it's a simple, peaceful, delightful, beautiful, mature, no-nonsense, progressive, showing the real meaning of a strong and independent woman ,without any melodrama and over makup looks, giving slice of life show with one of the most realistic approach on itv, all the characters were real such that every character was grey including the main leads, neither of them were right always nor anyone was wrong all the time, with good original music and beautiful dialogues and an amazing cast. (written by durjoy dutta and it's imdb was 9.2 when it was being aired) . But NOTE:- watch the first 2 seasons ONLY, about season 3-although the concept of distanced couple was unique and good but the poor execution and then the change of writer made it a complete disaster.
The writer is not from ekta kapoor group but from gul Khan group who wrote ishqbaaz. And season 3 was crap from starting. 'Suhana meri beti nhi hai?' WTF!
@@lucy2379 I didn't know from what group she belongs, but her shit writing made me believe that she might have written shows for ekta. And I know the season 3 is not at all like the previous seasons, but I felt like the series was getting better with the marriage councelling track, but then it got completely distroyed thanks to the new writer, that's why I said season was 'okay' initially.
I feel the show is trying to show what Indian women go through in their life. The first 200-250 episodes were to make the Indian women get connected to Anupama's situation. At least my mom connected a lot and she literally started imagining that we are ill-treating her as the Shah family. It shows how a woman can move forward from all of this family torture but they need to get the drama going so Vanraj and his mom will never change lol. I feel this show is trying to bring out a change in society so that women realise their true potential, this is the only show which makes sense to me and I look forward to expect the drama ofc
truee.. i do feel it is one of the few shows that has.. in somewhat manner a good overall effect on the society.... one of the only serials which shows divorce as a means for an end to a harmful relationship and not as means of getting revenge or something.. its sad that even the bare minimum is making us look up to the show, but it is the sad truth of today's television.
Exactly! Indian women's every day life cannot be summed up in 1-2 hours. If you need to tackle every day life, you need to show it in detail as they did. In reality Vanraj and Baa aren't too far off either. Seen plenty of people in my own personal life that way as well who truly never change.
Dont you think its the reality of almost every human being! We advice others easily, but it is always difficult to exercise these advices in our own life. Only when we are pushed to a certain limit, which may be person specific, we act about it.
The worst example of" Bengal think today, India thinks tomorrow" 🥲 there are so many memes on Sreemoyee that even I know the whole story without watching a single episode 🙏🏼😭
The way these mainstream serials portray women is so problematic and frustrating. According to the serial logic, there are only 2 types of women, 1) the sati savitri, who wears clothes like saree, salwar kameez, who's well behaved and who's only goal in life is to live for everyone in her 'parivaar' except for herself and love her husband, no matter how he is. 2) the women in the negative role, who's only purpose in life is to torture her daughter in law, sister in law etc. Also, women who voice their opinions or wear clothes as per their choice are always considered bad and adviced to be "sundar, susheel and sanskari" All this is so annoying.
I think writing is flawed but you need to get this, This is the reality, this is how indian women thinks when their husbands beat them, 'Oh yeh toh kaam ki frustration hai' In psychology also, it is Stockholm Syndrome, but as the story progresses anupama takes a stand which is kinda inspiration for many indian women, That is why this series is actually watchable! Otherwise over mahaan monologue are a big NO NO
@@bikramjit1755 no, I'm talking about anupama. Glorifying "sacrifice for the sake of parivar" , glorifying that women always have to live for others except for themselves as if it is right is toxic AF.
I used to love watching Anupama back in 2022, but after a while I realized that she is not putting herself first. She is keep going back to the toxic environment she " escapes". There was no development in her character. She kept making these mistakes. She needed to make boundaries which she failed to do.
I usually agree with your reviews, but I have to disagree with you here. Getting out of an abusive situation like Anupama's is not easy. Sometimes it takes years for an abused person to get out of his/her marriage, even when they are otherwise independent individuals. And the growth of any human is almost never linear. We move forward two steps and then take one back. It's realistic to me that it's taking Anumapa this long (only about a year) to begin her journey as an independent person. She got married as a teenager and then this family became her whole world, her entire identity. Of course, she would need time to dismantle her whole identity and forge a new one.
if you agree with a person on everything, then you don't have a brain, you are a slave of him who is getting brainwashed, his opinions/reviews become your opinion/reviews.
U should make an vedio on kuch rang pyaar k aise bhi... That show is really beautiful... But only watch season 1 and 2 because season three toh writers ne ruin kr diya hai... Kuch rang is the best indian serial in drama and romance category... Please do make a video... All actor perform really well and real hero of the show was it's writer.
the serial " anupamaa" has all my heart. because it's the one and only serial, that I've ever watched with such interest. and the condition of most of the Indian women are almost the same. I've even seen heard some ladies' story which is so relatable to this daily soap. it's so good to watch Anupama's bond with Samar, Bapuji, Kinjal, Nandini, Anuj, Devika. the bond of Anupama & Kinjal ; a rare bond of saas bahu is just too amazing. they do fun and celebrations which is entertaining to watch.
I wanna see how he'd review Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi, women are head over heels for this show, let's see what men think bout the same. There are feewwwww problematic parts like Mami Ji and Neha who are shown pure evil and not to forget the Ishwari from season 1 was a nightmare, but I just used to skip those parts and go gaga over their chemistry. It never failed to give me butterflies.
No one was evil in kuch rang pyaar ke aise bhi, They were grey shaded characters and Neha was one realistic character whose complaints were genuine. I know the chemistry of the leads was heavenly but the show was much more than that, It truly justifies it's name and describes every human relationship beautifully and Ishwari's character arc was brilliant.
@@kukki1114 yaa actually neha and ishwari had a horrible past..though their action cannot be justified..in reality I have seen many girls like neha who does not get love and attention from parent even when they did everything...she wanted pure love from her mother which she never got since her mother love was only for her raja beta...actuaaly ishwari was paranoid of being along since she never loved her daughter truely...and mamiji was leech and I have character Ilike her ...no overexaggeration happened in devlopment of characters
Is this show still going?? I used to watch this with my mom in 8 or 9th something...... it's fuckin true in initial episodes her mother in law was hell toxic and manipulative af😂😂

You should watch Kuchh Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi. It has been hailed as one of the best shows on indian tv. While I haven't watched it myself, I would like to hear your thoughts on a good (probably) show for once.
You don’t have to wait for his thought. Please watch the show, it’s absolutely beautiful. I never watched Indian television shows and I randomly came across kuch rang on a random night. There was no going back after that. Like how people rewatch F.R.I.E.N.D.S, I watch kuch rang.
I feel this video didn't do justice to the show. He could have talked about how the show is impacting society and tbh I didn't find the serial confusing at all. It's showing what happens in an Indian household, the woman wants to move forward but the family cannot stand it. It shows with all the odds still she is able to move forward. I do agree with the Anuj thing that they are showing a woman needs a man to move forward but that's not entirely true. Before even Anuj was in the picture she was a cooking teacher, a dance teacher and had a dance school all by her own. You also forgot to mention how they keep addressing different societal issues like Kinjal's boss harassing her and how they all dealt with the situation together, it told the viewers to be there for their women and not worry about what society would think. Nowadays, they are trying to put up a message that a girl and a boy can actually be friends which our society just cannot digest. I agree the drama gets too extreme sometimes, Pakhi gets pissed off at her mom just because she was late for her dance practice lol and starts insulting her, Toshu gets provoked by his MIL at one instance and goes against her the other, God all this was too much to handle. I don't at all feel the first few episodes were frustrating or dragged a lot, they were required to tell her story. Anyway, I think this comment has become way too long, I'll stop. Thanks for reading my two cents on this show.
Exactly true! It feels more like whining about the show when it is not THAT bad, comparatively the show has progressed so much like if a compare anu from the last year to the anu now there is such a HUGE development in herself. Not only that the show does highlight the societys mindset which has to be given credit for
My granny is a Anupama watcher and it really make me feel sick when she curse kavya but not vanraj , I mean they both did this right and want Anupama to forgive her husband as he is the hero , not any moreeeeee lady Anuj is to the rescue
I would really encourage you to watch Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi and Bade Acche Lagte Hain (season 2 of both). They are far much better than all soap TVS on Indian television.
Thanks Mr. Tried and Refused Sir, ( sorry don’t know your real name ). I liked how you pointed out that Anupama doesn’t appreciate the people who genuinely support her like Samar and Devika. In a way they are getting passively punished for doing the right thing. She yells at Samar when he stands up to his belittling father, Mr. Vanraj Shah, by saying things like ‘Mere Pati Parmeshwar ka apman’ she fails to protect her child. Thanks for this video 🙂
5:00 We and the people might not be in agreement with what Baa says but that doesn't mean that her character is nonsense. Because her character is very "real". As much as we might complain about the pace of the drama, the reality is that we live in a society where the thought process has been carved so strongly in stone that it will take a long time for those carvings to be removed. There are a lot many "Baa"'s in our Indian subcontinental families. And it will take time for her to change with time. And so will it take time for Anupama to develop herself. In my opinion, television, irrespective of whether it be Indian or foreign, should be a reflection of what our current society is more than being a reflection of what is right and what is wrong. And Anupama is definitely doing a good job of showcasing what our current society is. On a separate note, if people don't have the patience to watch 300 episodes to get to Anupama's divorce and beyond, you are watching the wrong kind of dramas. Stop watching Indian dramas or start watching Kasautii Zindagi Kay, where after being thrown off a cliff, the main female protagonist comes back after a leap of several years as a successful businesswoman to take revenge. Had that thing taken place in Anupama (since a lot many people are complaining about the pace of the drama), the people who related to the drama would have stopped relating. Because progress is only made in small steps. Also, for a lot many people, the drama has become a lot more interesting after the addition of Anuj's character. I don't have any complaints against the addition of Anuj's character but I would have continued watching the drama irrespective of whether Anuj's character was added or not. To me as a viewer, the only thing that matters is an organic plausible storyline and Anupama was delivering that to me before Anuj and is still delivering it after Anuj too.
10000000000000% Agree to your opinion. I'm watching this great serial from Sri Lanka. I don't know why these people underestimate this show. It's a real life story which reflects of a woman who was being insulted by her own family and children which is really happens in now society. Now look at her character. Self respect of a woman is the most important , it shows in this. I love this serial very much even from Sri Lanka. Sad to see some finds this as nonsense serial.
Absolutely correct all Ekta show and other show are nonsense only leap ,rebirth, remarriage, multiple affair at least Anupama showcasing reality of society.
They also fall into same radar now they try to focus more on anupama audience by making shubh labh and many of their new serials are more dramatic than comedy and they used a serial bgm in tmkoc one time for no reason at all
Jammy I you can, please review Kuch Rang pyar ke aise bhi ( the first 2 seasons). It's a very well performed, very "close to reality" show. The conflicts seem real and it is a very good relationship drama. It's a really good serial( do not watch the ongoing 3rd season, that's terrible, just watch the first 2 seasons, available on you tube) You can also watch Yeh Un dinon ki baat hai, that's another great take on love in the 90s
@mrandmrsobhodro haan yaar, the first two seasons are awesome The third season has been such a disappointment and has turned into a typical ekta kapoor serial especially after the entry of this sanjana character
the bengali show was pretty realistic compared to every other show on television. The characters even had character development especially the children. It focused on some really good topics surrounding the indian society and honestly the bengali show creators had managed to do a good job in my opinion. I think everyone loved seeing the female character getting a divorce and actually moving on from her toxic husband with a man who truly loved and respected her. Even though he had soon realized his mistakes unlike our generic indian shows where the woman accepts her husband through every horrible action he does.
By which angle you found Sreemoyee realistic? No wonder Leena Ganguly is continuing her horrific, socially unacceptable, substandard scripts. I have only one thing to say to the people like you GET WELL SOON Mami💐💐💐💐
But isn't it normal for a women who has been married for 25 years at such a toxic household to take that long to realize the truth & have emotional breakdowns like that. Nobody can go and do things that they haven't think of doing in there entire life and do it within some days, it takes time. I think what they show in this tv series is absolutely true & that's what happens in an typical toxic Indian household & that's the reason why this tv series is soo popular.
Jammy you should review this show Kuch Rang Pyar ke aise bhi which was an an absolute gem during the first season and and fell into the tropes of the soap opera bullshit and became an absolute train wreck during the third season
@@rakul5406 more than ishwari that psycho sanjana pisses me the most. I stopped watching that serial from the day she proposed to dev and revelation of sanjana and soha connection like wtf. While I absolutely agree with all your reviews Jammy, I do disagree with this one. It may also be as a woman it is easier for me to empathize since I'm subjected to this every day. The hypocrisy, the contradiction, the gyan giving is unfortunate reality of many women in India, not by purpose but due to the patriarchal society. This is proof the writing is so good because they portray the reality and show how Anupama's thinking is quite flawed (once again the reality of women that they are oblivious to). They show how Anupama no longer understands who she's supposed to be because her idea of self respect and family in reality was false and she gets faced with her own hypocrisy. So many women are stuck in this loop where they’ve been taught misogynistic principles and told upholding them is their lives true meaning, but at some point realize that’s those principles do not benefit them. And then get stuck in figuring out what’s right and what’s wrong. That’s what Anupama shows. How to fight the centuries of misogynistic brainwashing. The show is also slow to progress because that is exactly how life is for a lot of these women fighting for rights they don't know even know exist. You don’t become 100% progressive and independent overnight, there is so much learning involved. Heck it takes years to give up a habit, this is a whole personality we're asking to change. That too against a society you were brainwashed to worship. If you want a drama at the most shallow level where there's an unrealistic perfect feminist hero being almighty and fighting against all sexism, then this isn't it. This show is for the nuanced audience who want to learn how to gather courage to tackle sexism at an every day level, how to deal with their confusion, and how to deal with the complex and layered society. As someone who has seen multiple women go through toxic relationships, this serial cannot be more accurate. That said there are still regressive ideas that are encouraged such as only the bahus being responsible for the well being of the house while Samar and toshu are out working. Also living in the same house after divorce wth. I don’t think Anupama is perfect, but it’s 70% close to reality which is what makes it so good.
I totally agree with you , if you have to become a independent women ,you have to go through snail pace process and sometimes even back to realise wrong and right . And dude she is housewife and trying to move forward her whole world was family .
I totally agree with you...the reviewer is right at the theoretical level but he doesn't seem to have enough experience in real lives of Indian women at various levels
I believe this happens in every indian serial. Where the female protagonist is constantly judged, blamed by her family, kids, in laws for everything wrong happens on the planet.

That is what they want to show...what kind of problems she goes through her life...my mom relates to that serial alot because she'd also faced similar kind of problems...how this society and her family dominates a woman...

@@parikhan6599 she has a realistic mindset.
The fact that the only reason why she left her husband was his infidelity and not his abusive demeanor makes me cry.... she endured so much abuse, pain and yet the ahe keeps on defending her ex husband for being a virtuous father and son... bruhh
very good point!
Exactly!
Her mother in law is too smart... she got her son remarried to a smarter, more educated and working woman who brings in money but did not want to lose the free maid service that Anupama provides. So she conveniently says "Anupama is now my daughter and will stay with us!" :D like what?
And so that she doesn't leave her maid job and marries another man , she stops her from dating 🌚
Agree with you ! My mom watches it and kinda obsessed with it, I have seen some scenes and some episodes as my mom wants me to be with her...

@Parth Choudhary let's say i know a bit about them too :)
@Parth Choudhary agreed, it's extremely difficult to see this always. As of Jammy, it's kind of a privilege that shows in this review. when someone doesn't go through toxic households they don't have the reality in mind. he judged the show with the image of perfect female he had in his mind while we see the reality.
@Parth Choudhary oh hell YES
Yes exactly every daily soap shows this kind of mentality

The way this show romanticises abuse and lack of empathy always irks me. Just because it's a female centric show, doesn't mean it's progressive.
Reminds me of a dialogue my mother said once- everyone wants a Sita-like wife, but no one wants to be a Ram-like husband.
Same goes the other way around.
@@sahibrajput3857 oh, I had foreseen this coming
While Rama's trust and affection for Sita never wavered, it soon became evident that some people in Ayodhya could not accept Sita's long captivity under Ravana. And instead of standing up for his beloved wife, he banished her while she was pregnant with his children into a jungle. I don't think I would want a husband who would abandon me just because what will people say.

Only Anupama is better and everything on cable TV is garbage , I'm watching TV because of anupama TV serial
@@royalkumar795 same haha🤣
Yaa her own mother told her not to talk to anyone in college and her husband and mil were very manipulative
i guess why this small progression took 250+ episodes was to show that everything is not going to suddenly be okay after the divorce.
I totally understand it is to show the realism though for todays people that see high quality kdramas/netflix shows/anime/web series that can show realism even if they don't have 300 eps to show it
In small bite sized eps like 26/12 eps its Probably gonna be hard to sit through due to lack of time (obv some ppl
D say if you cant sit through it dont watch it,but this applies for majority of people today and its
a demand for todays entertainment market and entertainment market changes by the public demand so its not
incorrect for the audience to voice what they like and dislike so creators can make those changes for people).
Also lot of shows especially Indian shows get repetitive for the show to drag on and reduce in story quality as they get
longer unlike some anime where long anime get good
So thats a trait indian tv shows can try to fix and deliver condensed quality than quantity alone.
And i get that they probably wont be able to deliver as high quality in bite sizes as anime/kdramas/netflix shows/webseries do all of a sudden
So taking smaller steps can be an option..eg. trying to end the serial in 300/150/100 eps and then less and less till its Enough..
Bapuji is her biggest supporter 🙄🙄🙄

Never place your trust on Indian serial makers. They can even show her to be evil with a motive of money later on. It's ok now but you know how Indian serial makers are. The best example is YRKKH running for 12 years with the same storyline as follows- [Problem(mother-in-law gets angry)-Problem solved- Celebration or picnic after problem solving-During celebration, a bad omen is shown and ads are put to show the next problem(which will be repeated, don't worry we don't have that much creativity)- Accident or coma- Family reunion at hospital(Prayers and crying starts)- Time leap of 2 to 10 years(Anyways doesn't matter because the actors are the same and it has already been done 2 or 3 times)]
I am not saying being sanskari is wrong but atleast show some versatility in your storyline for God's sake.

@@WizInsight108 yes, this is wht I meant, I couldn't put into words what I meant

You are absolutely right
The most annoying part is that Anupama is a progressive women and talk about women equality but even then she gives household chores to her bahus rather than her son.
I can't believe I'm able to relate and visualise your issue even though I barely look towards TV when my mom use to see all this Rona dhona. 😂
Nice point!
She never made bahus do chores. Everyone in house helped . Their maid was temporarily on leave and even Anupama's mom was sick . And she fired the full time maid bcz she was troublesome.
My thoughts exactly
I know her character development was slow but let's not forget it's the reality. What they showed was nothing wrong as sadly it's a mirror of most households here. My Uncle was so toxic that he used to dominate us and abused my mum n dad mentally. His wife divorced him but he showed no signs of dukh, doesn't even contact w his first son.
Yes
yes very tru, we need to understand transformation doesn't happen instantly some illogical movies might show after break up that person transforms into a whole new person but in reality people need time to soak in the pain. when it is family you just don't give up like "haha jao bhaad mein" u always try to mend things n sacrifice at least thats what moms do ryt?!, now the time has come she has realized it n moved on. this serial is a mirror to society n is dng really well if there is hypocrisy at some point just ignore it and soak in the good part.

You might be from a very progressive family to find Anupama a fictional character. It's a reality I have seen so many women living exactly the same life daily.

I agreeer

Many women don't because it is not common. But that does not mean it's right
A character like anupma should have been revolutionary , not relatable . I agree with Jammy that the show is like a pendulum , with some good aspects and a bit more bad ones
No disrespect tho to anyone who likes it !
Exactly!
Yess..
I agree!
I hated the fact that devika didn't have enough screen time in the start, she was the best character, glad to see her in more episodes now
I think we need to take one thing into account before being judgemental- the serial somewhat showcases the reality of many many many households, being very much effective in doing so.

Yes, divorce on basis of infidelity is mostly filed in urban areas because majority of Indian rural women and even men don't know about divorce and its legal procedure.

I am a college going girl and I don't find anything in anupama motivating and inspiring to other women out there . Except Rakhi Dave 's character nothing was good in the whole show
I think the most motivating and inspirational character in the whole show was of Rakhi Dave coz she was an independent ,graceful and practical lady
Anupama never said anything to vanraj and baa
She said many things to Anuj show anger to him even at that time when she was wrong but still she blamed him fir everything
But never able to say anything to baa and vanraj ,bapuji
That was her double standards she always cry in front of Anuj and share happiness with Shah's.
Why ?
They did not show as feminism but they just degrade the feminism
They just show. A women can't do anything along 2itb her career coz she was not able to handle the hime even with a supportive partner like Anuj
He was depressed but she never understand him even she was asking questions like do you love me or not I mean WTH they were showing to us

I didn't even know 'Srimoyee' is made in so many language. Every Indian serial is just the same. One husband and two wives and in- laws.
Not just that a man has two wives, a woman has two husbands, children have double parents. Wtf
Yesss! He should definitely watch the first 2 season. One on the most beautiful shows on Indian television.

Idk out of everything why are these shows adapting these bengali serials...
Also, women who voice their opinions or wear clothes as per their choice are always considered bad and adviced to be "sundar, susheel and sanskari"
All this is so annoying.
Otherwise over mahaan monologue are a big NO NO
There's a difference between glorifying and showing such behavior.
It's like Stockholm syndrome. Going back to your abusers and making excuses for their behaviour.
@@bleh0933 They've never shown Vanraj in a good light when he was abusing!! So it is not glorying abuse at all.
@@bikramjit1755 no, I'm talking about anupama. Glorifying "sacrifice for the sake of parivar" , glorifying that women always have to live for others except for themselves as if it is right is toxic AF.
@@bleh0933 That is true but now she has taken a stand for herself, let's see what happens!

Rakhi Dave always gives the Shah's a reality check. We need to appreciate her!

Thanks Mr. Tried and Refused Sir, ( sorry don’t know your real name ). I liked how you pointed out that Anupama doesn’t appreciate the people who genuinely support her like Samar and Devika. In a way they are getting passively punished for doing the right thing. @@riyaaaa762 Oh. Sorry, my bad 😅
To me as a viewer, the only thing that matters is an organic plausible storyline and Anupama was delivering that to me before Anuj and is still delivering it after Anuj too.

the bengali show was pretty realistic compared to every other show on television. The characters even had character development especially the children. It focused on some really good topics surrounding the indian society and honestly the bengali show creators had managed to do a good job in my opinion.
