    AJ here with Stronglife Physiotherapy. Do you have vertigo when you turn your head or roll over in bed? This is a sign of horizontal canal BPPV. In this video I'll show you a quick and easy way to stop this from happening.
    Horizontal canal BPPV occurs when a particle becomes loose and free floating in the horizontal canal in the inner ear. When you're lying down and you turn your head this particle will move within the canal causing the sensation of spinning The spinning usually only lasts 30-60 seconds but can be very intense.
    This form of vertigo is less common than posterior canal BPPV which is usually felt when laying down or getting up, or bending over while standing. Many people find that horizontal canal vertigo is more intense than posterior canal vertigo.
    Luckily there is an easy way to fix your own vertigo that's called the Lempert Roll or Barbecue Roll. First, you need to determine which is your affected ear. If your symptoms occur when you turn your head to the right while lying down, your right ear is the affected side.
    To perform the maneuver start by lying down on your back. Roll onto your affected side, which in this video is the right side, keeping your head level and in contact with the pillow. Stay in this position until the spinning stops plus 30 seconds.
    Next roll onto your back keeping your head level and in contact with the pillow. Hold until symptoms stop plus 30 seconds.
    Now roll onto your other side holding this position until the symptoms stop plus 30 seconds.
    Now roll onto your stomach keeping your chin tucked and your head facing down. Hold until symptoms stop plus 30 seconds. Now roll back onto the right side keeping your head level. Wait until symptoms stop if still present plus 30 seconds.
    Now return to a seated position keeping your head level. Stay seated with your head level for a few minutes.
    For many people it only takes one time performing the BBQ roll to resolve their vertigo. If it doesn't resolve you can repeat the procedure two or three times. Occasionally the particle will enter the posterior canal. If this is the case your vertigo symptoms will change and will be provoked by laying down, sitting up, or bending forward. If this is the case check out my other BPPV treatment video to learn the half somersault maneuver which has helped a lot of people resolve their vertigo.
    As always, thank you for watching. Have a great day! Make sure to subscribe, and stay strong!

    *Thank you so much for this video. The emergency room doctor said - go on home, it will go away. Three days of spinning. But after watching your videos, within 5 minutes, I was taken care of. Thanks again for the great video. A wonderful thing indeed!!!*

    The BBQ roll worked great for my wife. Typically, the Epley maneuver works wonderfully but it wasn’t working this time. The BBQ method solved the problem!! Thanks very much.

    Thank you so much for posting this. It’s been 2 days since I suffer from this living hell. I’ve tried the Eply method, and many others. None of them worked for me. After I did this I got better, and I did it 2 more times, still a little dizzy but way less intense than before.

    It has been a year and I have never had an attack like the one that drove me to TH-cam in search of relief. Every now and then, when I am in bed and quickly turn over on my left side, I can experience a moment of that vibrating feeling in my eyes. But it lasts for fewer than five seconds. The nausea and dizziness have NEVER come back. I live in the Midwest and suffer with allergies, particularly at harvest time. I’m sure that is what precipitated my vertigo in the first place. I promise you guys I am a real person who comes from a family of doctors and surgeons. I wholeheartedly believe in traditional medicine. However, if your physician concludes that there are no hidden health conditions at the root of your vertigo, try one of these maneuvers with a partner who will help you do it correctly, step-by-step. It took me a couple of tries to get it right. I figured out that it was on both sides for me. Only those of us who have suffered with vertigo know how horrific it can be.

      @@StronglifePhysiotherapy Yes I did, and it works sort of temporarily. My symptoms were extremely intense two days after the booster, and now it’s been three months and I’ve come off a walker to now I use a cane sometimes during the day.

    I realize this video was posted 4 years ago. But I really need help. I recently laid on my left side and the entire room started to spin (freaked me out!) then I got really nauseous to the point I threw up and then felt lightheaded and half nauseous awhile afterwards. The same day this happened I had a massage so I’m wondering if that made it worse for me with all of the extra fluid. I’m really nervous to try this and get sick again. If I were to try this what do I do if I throw up? Because your asking me to sit there until the spinning stops and the spinning is what made me wanna throw up. I’m scared to go to sleep tonight.

    this is helpful, but is it possible to have a specific vertigo and then suddenly have a different type of vertigo?

    • @StronglifePhysiotherapy
      @StronglifePhysiotherapy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! It can move to a different canal in the inner ear, then it requires a different maneuver like the one Carol Foster teaches which I also have a video about.

    If you are a doctor of physical therapy, does that mean you are a chiropractor or you have a ph d. A physical therapist does not have a doctorate degree just a bachelor degree

    The somersault maneuver elicited no symptoms, so I tried this. I didn't feel dizzy until the last move to my right side. Now I'm feeling a bit off, and unstable. Any thoughts?

    • @StronglifePhysiotherapy
      @StronglifePhysiotherapy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Cindy Robin try repeating the maneuver or trying the other direction. Sometimes the particle can switch canals. If that is the case you would want to try the half somersault maneuver again to clear it. Good luck!
