Agust D is the alter ego of Min Yoongi, known as Suga in BTS, where he explores a raw and personal rap style, distinct from BTS's music. This persona addresses his struggles and the pressures of fame, with "Agust D" reflecting his name Suga spelled backwards and his hometown, Daegu Town. He is unique in BTS for using a different name for solo projects. His song trilogy starts with this track, followed by "Haegeum"-named after a Korean instrument and symbolizing the end of prohibition-and concludes with "Amygdala," which portrays the persistent impact of trauma and the challenge of moving forward despite painful memories. This narrative underscores the theme of processing life's painful aspects. As a fan since 2017 and a member of the Army, I recommend the "Guide to BTS Members, the Bangtan Seven" for insights into their journey and individual stories. Cannot wait to see what artist and song you do next. 💜

hello! just an information, k-pop is not really a genre, it is more of an industry. also, as others have mentioned, agust d is suga of bts. if you want a more in-your-face rap from him, you can check out 'agust d', he literally introduced himself with that song 😁

Yoongi is my favorite rapper, and this song is one of my favorites by him (The Last being my favorite). His lyrics are just perfection.... and his MVs are just perfect too... This one is part of a trilogy by the way! "Haegeum" and "Amygdala" are ones following this one.

Agust-D is Suga spelled backwards and his hometown Daegu. He's one of the three rappers of BTS, and is also a rapper, producer, songwriter, and songwriter. You're just getting into the versatility of BTS' talent and music. They all have solo work outside the group. They also have a lot of songs in subgroups, like just the vocal line, just rappers, or combinations. Just one of the many reasons they shine. Great reaction! 💜

Agust D is Suga from BTS. Agust D is Suga spelt backwards along with DT for Daegu Town, the place he is from. If you look in the background at the beginning of this music video you actually see 2 other members of BTS- Jungkook and Jin fighting each other. Can you believe Agust D/Suga and Jungkook are from the same group. If you react to all 7 members as soloists you will see just how distinct they are from each other as soloists.

This is a trilogy. This is the first one, Haegeum, and Amygdala. Daechwita and Haegeum are traditional Korean instruments used in the songs. Daechwita is the horns/flutes/gongs are the marching song announcing the King or Army marching, and in Haegeum it's the string instrument you hear. Suga is a story teller and talks the truth. Hope you enjoy 💜💜👑👑💜💜

As everyone has said, Agust D is the alter ego of Suga from BTS. If you watch this again, notice the guys at the market who run into him and then start fighting. It’s so funny. That is Jin (oldest in BTS and finished his military service this week) and Jung Koon (the youngest member of BTS). Please consider pausing l. You miss a lot of his really good flows because you were talking. I’m not complaining and it is your channel and your option. Just a suggestion. 😊
The next song in this trilogy is “Haeguem”.

    Just some cultural info
The opening scene is a Korean throne that pans out to a palace. Blond/King Agust D's hair and clothing is a modern twist of a Joseon empire king. The music as he walks out is the traditional Daechwita song. The percussion instruments are traditional Korean and continue to be used throughout the song.

Funny to see you stumbling - naturally, they are all so big together and as individual artists - so much between BTS and their solo works :D
Your path is fun to watch. :)
[1:20] Not a temple - palace, exact copy of his real life great-great (how many greats is here-?) grandmother's palace.
Starting the MV on a throne that once was his familys.. That is a statement.
You should have noticed as a anime watcher what is happening in his palace yard.. King who enjoys his morning stroll among bodies.. yeah.. awesome.
[1:25] Tangerines, they are all over the market place.
Plot is already thickening in the market place.
[1:58] Jin and Jungkook of BTS !
[2:15] The way I gasped first time I watched this King stepping on his courtier/minister like they were just the dirt on the ground..
[2:23] Time travelling plot starts to open up.. (watch to his wrist, modern keys, outfits- shoes!)
[3:18] .. And in Far East Asia dragon is the symbol of the emperor..? - The King of the Kings.. ;D
[4:03] Now The Mad King is dancing with the boxes that we saw earlier in his yard.. and we just saw what is in the boxes... all of those box piles..
[4:10] A car.. In a era that is before cars.. And not just any car - a car that opens up more of The Pauper character - he's seen carrying certain symbols before that place him as a pariah as outsider, and a gang leader, but now we see a certain symbol of what the car is. This is a 'tommy gun' for Koreans - it clearly places person in Korean mafia around late 80's early nineties. Again with the time travelling Pauper
[6:20] Who in their right mind would be moshing with a convicted criminal in the Mad King's court yard, where he likes his morning strolls with you-know-what one would probably not want to be "present" in next morning walk.. :/
did you ask us to rate where Agust D is for us?
Well Agust D is my Ultimate bias - which is a interesin term meaning different things to different people - many say it is their favorite in K-pop.
i personally take the term wider for my self only - I have artists that i hav loved decadades but to me Agust D means more than those time tested artists. The message of his lyrics, the artists he collaborates, everything talks about what kind of a person he is. He has the real life history that created Dear My Friend "To this day I still
miss and miss you" but still he opened his heart to Juice WRLD knowing it might end the same. And in the end it was. Young talent was lost. :=(
To me ultimate bias means to me he is my favorite artist in the world.

There's a lot to unpack in this one, haha
Agust D is SUGA from BTS - Min Yoongi. He is a rapper and music producer
This track is from his second mixtape - D-2 - and the start of a trilogy (next is Haegeum and finally AMYGDALA). There are tons of historical references and references to BTS. For example, the 6 guys with him represent each of the BTS members. There's also two of the members (Jin and JK) who made an appearance in the MV. Yoongi bumped into Jin at the start and JK fought Jin because of it, haha. He also mentions their former CEO with whom they are close - Bang PD - with a cute illustration that resembles a drawing that JK made of him during one of their shows
This is what he qualified as a "cockroach trap". He said that he puts traps in his songs and Daechwita is a trap for haters. He said that people always fall in them and that it makes him laugh (yes, he is savage) 😂
The song is a flex on his skills and his success. They work very hard to get to the top and never engage in shady tactics or trendy meaningless aesthetics (like rappers using drugs as a "cool aesthetic" which he calls out in the song). Him and RM were criticised for leaving the underground scene and were mocked for being "Idol rappers controlled by their label", deemed girls for wearing makeup and called "sell-outs"
Daechwita is the term for a traditional song used when a King or the army arrives. He is the King, along with BTS, and ARMY is the army. A lot of people bullied and attacked them, trying to prevent them from succeeding and undermining their talent. But they can't be stopped. Because of their talent, hard-work, brotherhood and ARMY's support 💜
But the MV, as mentioned above, is the start of a trilogy. Daechwita kinda references his earlier mixtape 'Agust D', with the blonde King - he had bleached hair back then. He was very angry at the time because of all the hate and attacks they received and had a strong desire to prove himself, resulting in an aggressive and very sad sound (because of his personal traumas as well). But with time and the help of BTS and ARMY, he (the black-haired one) managed to kill that part of himself (the mad King) with a Colt Army. Yes, it's that subtle in terms of refrences, haha. But the current version has the scar as well which is relevant for the rest of the trilogy and the analysis but I won't spoil it for you! Analysing the entirety of his work as Agust D and as SUGA is necessary to understand what everything means in detail though. It would take forever to explain 👀

Agust D aka Suga is Min Yoongi from BTS.
This is a diss track that, at the same time, tells us about his internal struggle between his gredy and his humble sides.
Just one more thong: K-pop is not a genre but an industry. The artists can show different genres. And BTS (and its members) are now way beyond being just k-pop.

No such thing as a Kpop genre. It would be like you listening to half a dozen tracks made in the US and saying you think you know the genre.
Daechwita is a form of traditional military music played to announce the presence of the king, loud blowing and banging.
Agust D aka Suga from BTS is rated among the best rappers in Korea, BTS has three rappers, Suga, RM and Jhope. Each has their own individual style.
Other Suga/Agust D songs include Haegeum, Amygdala, Snooze, First Love and a song called Agust D.
    Good luck and enjoy.

To fully comprehend the context of his lyrics, you would need to understand the hardships that Agust-D/Suga of BTS and his BTS brothers experienced early on in their career. Suga's lyrics are raw, straightforward and introspective at the same time. As this is also somewhat of a diss track to all the people who hate on them. He previously mentioned that when he was young and early in his career, he was angry and this was felt in the songs he composed. This song has become part of Agust-D's trilogy..you might like to check it out. The 2nd part to this is "Haegeum" and the 3rd is "Amygdala". Thanks for checking this out 😊.

Unlike a good portion of kpop rappers, Yoongi started in rap and producing and writes his own bars. He has won awards for producing for other artists and produced for Psy and IU (two of S. Korea's biggest icons). He immerses himself fully in creating his own works and is a musician through and through.
The other two songs in the Daechwita series are Haegeum and Amygdala. They continue the story thread of his inner battle and he origin of it all. There is also a mini dance practice video for Haegeum.

You lost the key lyrics ! Which they he want to put his feet on the ground, it’s not about being confided cuz of that like just I’m actitud out of nowhere which is what you see a lot in kpop ( jut posers ), this is pure hip hop in Korean ( like most of his work as agust D so far )
Here he is representing a part of himself , the blonde one , represents his rage that he got loose on his first mixtape , on the song with his name “ Agust D” where he was blonde and literally getting free this rage he got for all the things that happened to him , from people looking bad on him and also talking like he didn’t grind from his success when he got before scammed from the music he made or got to save money to buy his equipment instead of eating, the rage was people telling all those things also were friends of him or colleges, etc which suga was the youngest in his underground rap/ production scene. ( the lyrics of the agust D song and the give it to me song Are about that , Both MVs go together)
Anyway but since he got everything, his success also started to get his head and probably end up being alone , he dont want that , don’t want to be posees for that him , so in reality the true him was the black hair one , the “ peasant” which is the one with people that support him like those guys he is with ( representing BTS members they are 6) and the girl ( Fans army ) and the whole town afraid of the “tyrant” king. That’s why the black hair guy made a deal with the butcher to let him free and give him the gun to take over that part of him with the one that want his feet on the ground and enjoy with everyone.
But later the same black dude get another story that’s in Haegeum MV ( remember the scar also ).
As you see this got a lot of though, analogies of his life and what he thinks and realize around him. It’s not just a company giving him a concept to “look cool” like with the kpop groups you saw.
All of these came from him , planning since a long time and adding new stuff on the road cuz of things that happened to him.
And ironically no one use the instruments and the places and the high quality video with this much Korean history and tradition , that made a lot of artists , including groups started to record in that area too their music. In other words he made the trend to “look cool” record and talk about Korean historical stuff on the music. Lol
So don’t be surprise if you see other groups or Korean artists to appear in places like this on their videos for now on.

There is a lot of history behind those lyrics and unless you know BTS history in the past 10 years it might seem aggressive but it's a slap back to all the people using their name for fame, making music while popping pills (he doesn't mention anyone specific but if the shoe fits) or putting shade on BTS and suga coming from a lesser known company. The storyline adds to this as he (peasent suga) is fighting his past self (the king). This is also a trilogy so the next MV is Haegeum and then Amygdala

It wasen't the temple but palace;) in Korea palace looked like that, that is why king was there....
Hmm kpop isn't genre hmm 🤔 even if you simply look up in Wikipedia "K-pop (Korean: 케이팝; RR: keipap), short for Korean popular music, is a form of popular music originating in South Korea as part of South Korean culture. It includes styles and genres from around the world, such as pop, hip hop, R&B, rock, jazz, gospel, reggae, electronic dance, folk, country, disco, and classical on top of its traditional Korean music roots. The term "K-pop" became popular in the 2000s, especially in the international context. (...)"
In short it is "form" of music that includes different genres...
Hmm the same with Agust D ;) in short:
Min Yoon-gi (Korean: 민윤기; born March 9, 1993), known professionally by his stage names Suga and Agust D, is a South Korean rapper, songwriter and record producer. Under Big Hit Entertainment, he debuted as a member of the South Korean boy band BTS in 2013.

By the way, Agust D isn't a "them". Agust D is Suga of BTS and HE is amazing as a solo artist. Also, K-Pop isn't a genre, it's an Industry. More specifically it's the Korean IDOL Music Industry, which happens to encompass many genre's. Also, this genre you are listening to here is Hip Hop/Rap. Also, the K-Pop Industry doesn't have one sound. And BTS are an anomaly in K-Pop, they debuted as a HIP HOP IDOL group in 2013, and other K-Pop artists were not doing that at the time. Needless to say they got a lot of hate. Anyway, now that you've listened to this song, you need to finish the trilogy. Agust D has three songs that tell a story, more specifically, his story.
    *Suga aka Agust D's Trilogy:*
    Agust D - Daechwita (turn on CC's) - th-cam.com/video/qGjAWJ2zWWI/w-d-xo.html
    Agust D - Haegeum (turn on CC's) - th-cam.com/video/iy9qZR_OGa0/w-d-xo.html
    Agust D - Amygdala (turn on CC's) - th-cam.com/video/IX1dkYoLHVs/w-d-xo.html
    *Meanings for the song titles*
*Daechwita* - is a genre of Korean traditional music consisting of military music played by wind and percussion instruments, generally performed while the ARMY is marching or as a static performance usually when the King is arriving. (Suga aka Agust D meant the BTS ARMY to be implied.)
*Haegeum* - has two meanings. The first, it's a traditional Korean string instrument, resembling a vertical fiddle with two strings, usually played at Royal Court. Also, it means to lift a ban, or release what is forbidden.
*Amygdala* - is an almond shaped part of our brain which is commonly thought to form the core of a neural system for processing fearful and threatening stimuli, including detection of threat and activation of our fight or flight response. The Amygdala helps to store memories of events and emotions so that an individual may be able to recognize similar events in the future.

KPop sound figured out after 5 songs 🤔 If you continue to listen to BTS and the individual members you will find that each song is different from the last, the sound changes a lot. What makes it KPop is the training process and the group debuts as a KPop Idol group. They are trained typically for 2-5 years. They sing, rap, dance, learn languages, act, the make-up, clothes and high quality videos. They sign with an entertainment company who trains them. Eventually they will be whittled down to the few that form the final group, then they debut singing Korean popular music in different genres. KPop is the industry.
Suga formed his alter ego, Agust D, and he released 2 solo mixtapes Agust D and D2. He has now released a solo album D-Day.
Daechwita is his story shown in an artistic way. He plays the mad king and peasant roles, shown to be separated in time by the mad king era and the more modern persona with a car. Suga was ambitious to be the best and greedy for money as he was pretty poor. He saw in himself that he had become the mad king but realised that now he had achieved so much that money wasn't everything and he wants to go back to what is important. His gang of 6 at the start represent the other 6 members of BTS. He makes a deal with the butcher in the market place to achieve a coup to get rid of the mad king. The butcher is the executionist as well. ARMY are represented by the town folk. The king's men in black hoodies also become ARMY by the end of the video as they headbang with Suga. The butcher/executionist cut Suga's ropes rather than chop his head off. The gun is a Colt Army Model 1826. So with the help of ARMY and his members Suga "kills off" his greedy side. But does he? We see him shoot but not what happens to the mad king?
2nd in the trilogy Haegeum. I recommend to see it soon. Haegeum is a Korean instrument with 2 strings played a bit like a cello. It also meams to free what was forbidden.

Hello! As others already commented, Agust D is SUGA of BTS. For this song (and really any of the rap line's songs in BTS), I HIGHLY recommend you check out DKDKTV's "Explained by a Korean" series, as a LOT of their songs are steeped in Korean culture and consist of very clever word play. (th-cam.com/video/JayEtmyXVpo/w-d-xo.html)
NOTE: ARMY (BTS's fandom) has a sort of love/hate relationship with DKDKTV, for a variety of reasons that I won't go into right now. Even so, I think their explanation videos are really the most thorough and helpful in understanding the depth of BTS's lyrics.

Please check out the Daechwita Explained by a Korean by DKDKTV. The lyrics go much deeper than they appear from just the subtitles. That is true for most BTS songs btw, and DKDKTV has covered several of them like Ugh, Idol, Bapsae (Silver Spoon), Ddaeng and Paldogansan (Satoori Rap).

Suga chose to be known ad Agust D which is Suga Daegu Town backwards. This allowed him freedom from worrying about young BTS fans finding unsuitable lyrics or subject matter. He generally creates and produces music for others in the Name Suga. Agust D is his angry rebellious that allows him to examine topics honestly.. I you check out DKDKTV DAECHITA an English speaking korean will explain the many historical and cultural references with wich this song is richly embroidered. A Daechwita is imperial Korean marching music, used for the coming of the King, the marching of the army (ARMY) and the changing of the guard. All three are relevant here. You can hear a traditional Daechwita in the opening of the MV.

There is a cameo in this of two other BTS members. They get into a street fight. It's Jin and Jungkook, the eldest and youngest members of BTS. There is a lot of deep meaning in this MV, like most BTS MVs, but one thing I will say is notice he has 6 guys backing him up, like his 6 BTS brothers. The woman represents ARMY. This is part of the trilogy of MVs/Songs about the mental health journey of healing his traumas. He kills the Mad King with a Colt ARMY model revolver, representing the strength he found in ARMY. You will note, if you dive deeper into BTS, they REALLY, REALLY love their fans, as in they consider us their family, their best friends, their reason for what they do. The relationship between BTS and ARMY is a very unique one.

I'm not sure how much you know about Min YoonGi aka Suga/AugstD....but as you liked his MV then the following info might be of interest to you.
Suga/Agust D began writing music lyrics and working with MIDI at age 11 and held a part-time job composing and arranging music at a recording studio at age 16.
Active under the name "Gloss" (wordplay on his name YoonGi, which means "to shine") as an underground rapper in his hometown Daegu, He originally entered Big Hit Entertainment as a producer at age 17 and became the second member to join BTS..... At BTS debut in 2013 he was 20 y.o.... he is one of BTSs main producers/songwriters/composers and has over 150 song copyrights.... he also produces for other artists and has won awards for his work.... he is one of the fastest rappers in South Korea.
Suga (SHU-GA.... from Shooting Guard - the position he played in basketball) ...... AgustD = SUGA + DT (Daegu Town - his hometown) Spelt Backwards
Between his commitments as a member of BTS, Suga/Agust D took advantage of time on the plane and in hotel rooms after concerts to continuously produce, write and compose music.
In an interview for Grazia Korea, Suga/Agust D expressed a desire to release the music he wanted to do without having to consider popular appeal or music ranking. He intended to release his music for free in the form of a mixtape to avoid such considerations, commenting that an album "has a feeling of being trapped in some sort of framework" due to the need for company involvement in promotion and advertising. He has released 2 mixtapes - and last year released his first official album (of which he continues to maintain full creative control)
Developing Agust D musically on the base of hip hop, much of Agust D's inspiration for the lyrics came from his own stories of dream, youth, and reality. In order to differentiate his work from that of his work as Suga, he developed the alter ego "Agust D". He is best known for his honest hardhitting lyrics.
Bookish Theories TH-cam channel has really good explanations to BTS videos as there is a lot of cultural references and depth to this song that really will blow your mind
This is the first song in a trilogy..... He is a master storyteller.... a fellow army best explained the trilogy as -
Daechwita... ridding himself of the need to prove his worth to others
Haegeum... ridding himself of the confines of modern society
Amygdala... he investigates the inner demons and trauma that started his confinement in the first place.
Suga/AgustD wrote, composed and produced the songs, he conceptualised the MVs and had creative control (working as usual with Director Lumpens (Choi YongSeok) who does most BTS MVs)
    Fun facts -
The gun used was a Colt M 1860 ARMY
Daechwita is Traditional Joseon Korean Royal Parade/Military Music - notifying all that the king is here
Yoongi(Suga) is a member of the clan of the very last empress of Korea.
Daejanggeum Park is where the MV was filmed.... It is a giant film set that doubles as a public historical park where people can come to "experience" old times.
Hope you have a great day💜💜Sending Greetings from Australia

You pause way to much, talk over the artist and miss a lot of important details. SUGA or August D as well as Jungkook are members of BTS...they all do their own solo works as well as a group....while they may be part of the Kpop industry they are well beyond what any of the other groups are capable of. Doolset and other channels give very good breakdowns of many of their songs, particularly the ones with a lot of Korean cultural references....BTS lyrics go way deeper than the soft pap other artists deliver and to really appreciate them one needs to dig deeper. I respect each reactors choice to do their own way but I don't enjoy watching when it seems like they just jump on the BTS bandwagon to boost their channel and do not seem to really go into what makes BTS.....BTS. Good luck with Kpop.
