Daechwita, Haegeum and Amygdala form a trilogy. Basically Suga’s internal struggle facing his own demons and trying to break free. The correct order to watch would have been Daechwita then Haegeum and finally Amygdala. Suga’s lyrics always have deep meaning and often touch on his struggles with depression and social anxiety. His flow and rap are so innovative. I never thought I would like listening to rap music but BTS and Suga changed that! My first kpop concert was seeing Suga/August D!!

Haegeum=the lifting of a ban. This is about breaking out of boundaries.
Daechwita: music played for the procession of the king. By singing this, peasant Suga is announcing that he's coming for the crown, that he's the real king. This one should have been viewed first, since it's the first stage of Yoongi's confronting himself and his issues. Both of the people he plays have the scar across the eye--if you watch the third video Amygdala, you'll see where the scar comes from. in an interview Suga says that trauma does not leave scars--it's how you deal with trauma that leaves scars. Peasant Suga is in league with the butcher, who is also the executioner--you see them exchange looks in the market place. It's a plot to get the peasant revolutionary into the palace in order to get close enough to shoot the king.
In Haegeum, the cop is corrupt--he's running a drug lab. He's the only one with a scar here. One of the theories is that thief Suga is an undercover cop trying to take him down (this would also explain why the thief takes the cop's jacket and gets a ride in the cop car) so he makes an alliance with the cop's underlings who back him up at the showdown where the thief shoots the cop. Suga the thief also exchanges looks with the guy on the phone, who's calling the corrupt cop to notify him about the raid. So yes, it's essentially the same plot as Daechwita, pushed forward in time, but in Daechwita the lyrics are about personal growth, and in Haegeum the lyrics are talking about society's ills.

The word 'Daechwita' translates to 'Great Blowing and Hitting' and refers to a genre of Korean music. This traditional art form consists of music with a military theme, played by artists using percussion and wind instruments. Artists will perform while marching in a parade or during a static concert or performance.

Haegum was shot in Thailand in the old Slave Market eg the place people were freed at the market and many started selling things at that market place. Haegum has 2 meanings the real meaning is a traditional 2 stringed instrutment played with a bow, the second meaning is slang for 'Lifting and ban on something that's either not allow or something is socially a no no.

The second meaning of haegeum is the lifting of the ban of something forbidden.
Adding what I think the story is based on things I’ve heard from other reactors...commentaries and what he said in the d-day documentary.
First of all he did say in his intro of the video during the premiere that this video is the second of a trilogy. He said the three videos meant to be seen together is Daechwita, haegeum and amygdala ...which is coming up!
So I believe the king in Daechwita, the first form of august D, was killed by black haired scar face agust D. But then black hair becomes the boss in Haegeum. He seems to be a police detective or officer that is corrupt. He runs his operation from above the Asian noodle restaurant. New Agust d wants to kill him too! Maybe like in Daechwita it’s because of his corruption. So he invades the headquarters and gets his money. On his way out we see a guy making a phone call to the boss...but new agust d gives him a nod. So I think just like in Daechwita new agust d has a deal with this insider to help him kill the boss. So this new guy didn’t really want the money it was just a bait to get him close to the boss. So like in Daechwita, as he was about to be killed he switches the story and kills the Boss instead. Before the boss gets shot we see the boss smirk. I saw a comment that this could be because he knows that this New guy will also meet his fate! So in the end new guy was accepted by the boss’ men and he was delivered to their headquarters the restaurant where he takes over. The final Shot of him eating with the tool he used to kill a man suggests that the violence will sustain him. So now we will wait for amygdala to see how the story ends!
So the song itself was explained by Suga in the documentary. He explains that as idols there are a lot of things they seem to be restricted from doing, acts that are normal for some will become controversies for idols. Like if his smoking at the age of 31 will be seen as wrong then he wants this song to be the start of liberating or lifting some of the restrictions put on them. He also talked about the effect on too much information and how easy to get them also starts to restrict thinking. It’s a very deep song!
The funny thing is...this song has triggered a bit of hate from kpop on social media! Fans of other groups are thinking Yoongi was targeting them...or even saying he shouldn’t be against capitalism since he is from Hybe! Lol totally missing the point of the song...or maybe just proving Yoongi’s observations!
He’s a genius! The rest of the album is genius! I hope you do an album reaction!

what's amazing is that in the MV, hanja 解禁 was on the screen which = haegeum, in terms of "to lift a ban" not 奚琴 = haegeum the instrument. WHICH MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE because the lyrics talk a lot about judgement, prejudice, and being free from all that. something about it is so raw, and honestly, i feel like it's a big fu to those who try to "cancel" grown idols for doing something normal humans do, like him "smoking" in the MV or just dating, or any issues some fans can't accept. "This song is a haegeum" meaning this song is targeting kpop "fans" who always make a big deal out of things that are not even supposed to be controversial HE'S SO ICONIC FOR THIS.
    Steve Blevins said on 4/25/23
Please note the split-second image of a hand holding almonds at 13:36. This is a reference to ALMOND: A NOVEL about a guy who has trouble identifying and describing experienced emotions because of a neuropsychologic condition (alexithymia). The "almond" refers to the amygdala, an almond-shaped area of the brain. Yoongi was seen reading this book in a preview to IN THE SOOP. The book is on Namjoon's recommended list.
    @aarceeandtannies2217 said on 3/31/24
I hope you'll read this! Yoongi's musical & lyrical cinematic universe is just beautiful..
    Haegeum means 2 things
    - a korean 2-string instrument w/c yoongi used in the production
    - liberation from prohibition
    Some interpretations:
    1. It's a commentary on the abuse of "freedom of speech/opinion" or freedom in general, society's discretion on good & evil, capitalism
    2. this is agust d in a diff timeline, sequel to daechwita, the thief agust d vs. the cop agust d
    My takeaways:
    1. "we must differentiate freedom from self-indulgence", a translator's note is that "differentiate freedom from lawlessness" is more accurate... yoongi's point is that if a person's kind of freedom is that w/c harm others, can you still call that freedom? it isn't freedom when you strip other people of their freedom...
    2. the blatant explicit MV considering he's an idol (k1lling, smoking, stealing)... idols are criticized for the smallest of things like for example seeing an idol smoking just like some other people do, he will be hated, insulted by the public and sometimes even punished by their label as if they committed a crime... they're like the fish in the water dispenser yoongi was watching (he & other celebrities is the fish), that depiction is worse than a fish in a fishbowl, coz they are not just simply being observed but also being stripped off the water that make them breathe...
    3. "Endless influx of information prohibits freedom of imagination/thoughts, and seeks conformity of thought"... nowadays people have been so comfortable being spoon fed w/ information w/o putting effort in fact checking and critical thinking that always triggers controversy and results to confusion and judgment... take for example when BTS announced they are taking a break from group activities, the headlines were saying they will be on hiatus or they are breaking up and people just blindly ate that news, if journos really watched the dinner and reading the subs they clearly said they are just resting from grp activities and will come back.. so clearly those journos chose to write those headlines for their own gain just like the verse on haegeum says, "slaves to capitalism, money, hatred, prejudice etc."
    4. think of the red chopstick as the "capitalistic society"... that chopstick is a tool to get what we want whether what we want is to resist this kind of society or submit to it, in the end we are part of the society and it's what puts food in our mouth to survive... This is the harsh truth that we can't really escape from it, this is how society was built. But, there's a clear difference between functioning in a capitalistic society vs. actively participating in it and strip others of their freedom. So what should we do?
    5. Agust D is part of yoongi, his inner dark psyche that portrays his conflicting thoughts, and Agust D also splits into micro-characters (the rebel, the boss, the peasant, the king, the thief & the cop) that expresses each of his stance. The blonde agust d in 2016 used his anger (song: agust d) and greed (song: give it to me) as a weapon to rise from nothingness and people's naysaying. In 2020 (song: Daechwita) the blonde agust d who achieved his goals and success was consumed by his greed and became a tyrant king w/c was later k1lled by the rebel/boss agust d (one who's followed by people).. In 2023 (song: Haegeum), the scarred cop agust d seems to be on the side of justice and a man of power but actually the bad guy who pocketed that bag of money while the tangerine thief and boss on that turf was actually the agust d who's trying to catch the evil cop. The greedy agust d is always k1lled by the other agust d, but see how the king and the cop was still smiling and never runs away when the other agust d is abt to k1ll them, it's because they will always be back, it's a constant cycle of making sure that our greed is being keep in check, a constant contemplation... this is the answer to #4.

Now you can see that he was one of the 2 Rappers from the underground Hip Hop scene before he was a member of BTS. As a Rapper he wrote his on raps and also produced for others who conned him and didn't pay. He still write's and produces not just for his own solo stuff but within BTS and also for other artist in other companies in fact he's won awards as an Producers.

A haegum is a traditional Korean string instrument that resembles a vertical fiddle, but with two strings. It is one of the most popular instruments in Korean music and is often considered a bridge between string and wind instruments with a sound that is a hybrid of a violin and a viola. The other meaning of "haegum" is applied when it is used in popular Korean vernacular, in which it means "lifting a ban and allowing something that is forbidden.

This is number 2 in the trilogy. We often reccomend this first because the first genius song DAECHITWA was from an earlier album and is aimed more at a Korean audience with loads of historical and cultural references. Plus the lyrics were cleaned up a little. Now you know how brilliant he is you will realise its well worth doing a double reaction. watching DKDKTV DAECHITWA EXPLAINED an english speaking korean give you an entertaining in depth explaination plus more adult translations. It's my favourite because of the flow switches and oriental trap beat. with number 3 AMYGDALA as my second favourite and Haegeum as my third favourite.

Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. Yo, did u spot that there is 6 gang members with Suga. o.0 Suga always has BTS represented in his MVs. He so sweet. Jimin ult bias, Suga wrecker, OT7.
Ur watching the trilogy out of order. So i suggest u watch on your own in order(Daechwita, Haegeum, Amygdala). =0] He looks so hot. Love the souvenir jacket his wearing. I have one too but mine is black and has cranes on it. I love dragons though and my fav color is blue & black. I kind of thought we would not have a song like Daechwita on this album D-day. Well guess i was wrong, huh. 0.0 I was really surprised on 1st watch. I never thought he would connect 3 MVs together. 0.0 That is brilliant. Suga is such a genius. I love it. Suga during the premier said to listen to Daechwita, Haegeum, and Amygdala. So that's what i did. Powerful song. I like that we continue the story from Daechwita. But this song is more violent. Geez. He is such a savage! I liked it. Good rhythm. Suga is a visual. Excited to rewatch the MVs in order with reactors. Did u spot the Joker reference i missed that. Ur reaction was many of us. He is such a boss! Here's a list of solo projects. D-Day is not there yet so u can check genius site until doolset updates her's. doolsetbangtan.wordpress.com/solo-projects/

So Haegeum means allowing/unlocking something that was forbidden. His whole album is overflowing with his emotions, and not only does he talk to himself in his album, he talks directly to the listener (especially with one particular song, where it almost feels like he breaks the 'fourth wall'. I've experienced it via a movie before, but never by song, until now) there are ARMY translator accounts on Twitter, so if you want to listen to his album on Spotify or Apple music etc, you can have the lyrics pulled up to help you understand what he is expressing 💜
    ScreamCheeese said on 4/21/23
Haegeum also means “to liberate” or “to release” from bans, restraints, or something forbidden. You also really need to see Daechwita!! You’ll understand a lot more of this MV and it’s just as amazing! Just a movie-like. Min Yoongi is a genius for a reason 😩
    Plants healing said on 4/21/23
Haegeum has two meanings. The first is a traditional Korean stringed instrument used in this music "this song's a haegeum", and the second, as the lyrics say, "a new kind of haegeum" means "unlock".
Yoongi uses both haegeum in his lyrics.
    Addison McDorman said on 4/22/23
Haegeum: the English lyrics & the meaning.
Haegeum is a song about unlocking our new potentials, freeing something previously forbidden. The word “Haegeum” has a double meaning. On one side, it’s a traditional Korean string instrument that has a very peculiar sound, but this is not the authentic meaning Agust D/Suga intended originally.
Haegeum” means “allowing/unlocking something that was forbidden.” Here is how he explained it in an interview:
The word “Haegeum” came to me when I was young. I played rhythm games, I loved rhythm action games. When beating a certain stage, you’d unlock a forbidden song, then you could play a new rhythm. It was a “freedom from the forbidden.” Why don’t I try and break free from those things?
This is explicitly confirmed by the English translation of the lyrics in Haegeum:
This song’s simply about freeing what’s forbidden but you must remember to differentiate freedom from self-indulgence
    This song’s a haegeum
    Get on board now
    This lively rhythm
    A new kind of haegeum

Daechwita means 'lound crashing and banging' it's the old traditional music the Army used when on marching and let the people know the army and often the Emperior was coming to town. BTW you are watching them in the wrong order and they are his own inward story. The two different side's of himself fighting with each other and how and the last one Amygdala explains where his internal mental battle come's from his trauma's
