    Seán I love the weeds. It means your ground is healthy. Wildlife surely loves you. Another great update, thank you. All looking good. Good riddance to beltie beag. The hedging will be lovely

      Thank you Marie. I've definitely got over the whole manicured look. I'll not rule out topping I'll still go after the rushes at times but I'm very excited to see and watch the recovery over the next few weeks 🙌

    Awesome to hear you learning to love a method that saves you money and time. As long as you are getting better results, there's nothing wrong with saving money.

      Well Lee thank you. We have been topping year on year and no further on so time to engage and listen to what mother nature has been trying to tell us all this while. Very excited now too

    Whst a great field. I know that dandelions grow when the land is parched of calcium and when they die they give calcium back to the soil so your right to let the weeds do their thing to help your land. Good video!

      Thank you Steve I'm excited to see what it looks like over the next few weeks. I've always topped that field and by the looks of it to no avail. So let see what mother nature is trying to tell us🙌

    I recently watched a grazing conference from a few years ago and Alejandro Carrillo, one of the speakers, was answering questions about what to do with weeds and his answer was to leave them. That they are part of a progression of plants that have a job to do with preparing the soil for more growth of what the animals need and what the soil can support. I’ve probably mangled the wording but the meaning behind his words were to basically to leave them alone to do their job. Eventually the impact on the ground does its job so, not to worry too much about them.
    I enjoy watching and hearing what’s going on there. Still curious about Motherless May so I’ll be eager to hear more of that tale. Thanks Sean

      Thank you for that. Very interesting. I have noticed similar things over the years with the ebbs and flow of weeds but it only rang a bell recently. I've been hammering away at the weeds with the topper year on year and we are actually seeing more so now I'm very excited to see what mother nature has been trying to tell us. I am now going to trust and surrender to her plan 🙌

      Thank you k. We've been topping flat to the board ever year and that's the result so I think it's time to see what mother nature has been trying to tell us all this while. I'm actually very excited about it. I've already seen more birds hanging about which tells us there insects living there. To think we'd cut it all down is actually I terrible idea the more I think of it 🙌

    Thanks for the update Sean. You must be looking forward to seeing a little income from the spooky crew. Would you now say that your core herd is at the optimum size? Will that give you a consistent number of animals to sell each year from now on?
    I was back in The Kingdom last week. How good it was to be home but alas too short a time. It always is!

      To answer your question yes this is our first year I can start to pick and choose and sell a few to pay bills. We've had a few tight years and some losses but 🤞crossed we are a step close every time.

    Strange this year, theres wild buttercup growing everywhere, North East England here, so far behind this year, no clover flowering yet but its in the bottoms , just waiting.

    • @seanofalluinregenerativefa4569
      @seanofalluinregenerativefa4569  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It was actually the buttercups take over this year that rang the bell in my head to examine closer the reasons why.
      I am very excited to see how things go now with the topper put away.
      I've been chasing a clean lawn look all my life to no avail. So now we'll have to trust and surrender to her plan 🙌

      It also depends on what you're goals are, we mustn't find ourselves caught in the "snapshot" of a TH-cam or Facebook video/picture, I like the fact you're open to changing the plan and that speaks bigger volume than rigidly sticking to daily move, paddock size etc, I was a bit caught up in rotational grazing but like you I was being more inclined to "adaptive" graze, before I'd even heard the phrase. For now, if it's early in the season I'm going to continue to Top, if I think the grass is "heading out" too early, I'm going to top it and reset the growth stage , I think this year I'm getting seed heads earlier because with all this wet, I've made the paddocks bigger to spread the cattle load out, it'll reduce damage in the long run, but they haven't grazed it fully by the next move. One thing is for sure, we're learning the art of grazing.

      @seanofalluinregenerativefa4569 good luck with it. Great to see some adjustment when things aren't working. A safe to fail I like to call it. If it doesn't work out then so what. It hasn't cost anything or set you back much.

    Have you had beef from that grazing before.
    It should be a good deep yellow fat beef which is almost impossible to find in town, especially supermarkets where beef fat is white, an unnatural product.
    Yours, irrespective of how good or bad the animal is should be very tasty beef, like it used to be before Teagasc got going with modern beef farming.

    • @seanofalluinregenerativefa4569
      @seanofalluinregenerativefa4569  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Well Michael I've never done it before I'm very excited and nervous about it at the same time. But we've a feed lot close by and I really don't like that idea of finishing. He should be exactly as you say 🤞 a high nutritionally dense super food grown with just rain sun and microbes
