Aye that's my grandpa! It's a beautiful farm we always love visiting he is an amazing man! And by the way yes you can tell his beef is soooo much better then store bought! You can tell the difference it tastes and makes you feel so much better it's just all together better for you
@@hunterl5078 that's one of those things only he could answer probably... Unfortunately I live a couple hours away so I don't get to the farm as often as I would like so I don't get to see all the behind the scenes but I'm pretty sure I remember him saying something years ago about when it's real hot he gives them salt? Like I said you would have to ask him i just know he has a specific reason for doing it when he does I just can't recall it right now
I love how he worked for the man for 6 years to leave the man and join the farm. He’s happy and healthy and self sufficient with out chem/gmo or any other BS, just clean living. Love this man!
These are the folks we should be listening to, the old timers who don’t overcomplicate everything. This man hadn’t even heard of daily rotation nor cared about the nutritional makeup of his pastures lol. I feel like we make stuff too hard too often by jumping on trends.
That is so true!!! I was even confused asking him, and I giggled as he was said, I just focus on the grass and life cycle of parasites. And how he watches for spider webs literally knocked me off my feet! I could have talked to him for hours longer!!
Thank you so much!!! We really aren’t picky about the types of farmers we ask to come visit, but I think our focus of talking WITH the farmer, without an agenda or interview based questions, allows them to just be themselves, to share their authentic story. And that’s why we do this, these stories aren’t being told and they should be!! Anyway, Jesse is amazing and such a great person! We are so grateful for the time we got to spend with him! ❤️
I stumbled into this channel this morning and just did a quick checkout which morphed into3 hours. I think you have found a new niche here and I think you will grow if you hang in there
Ok, I loved watching the video video interview that you did with Jarhead Farm and because I watched that you showed up in my feed with this old guy. I LOVE THIS INTERVIEW. So now I’m following your channel because you’re two for two with me, girl!!!
Love this. More videos should be about the old timers. I am almost 50. People even thought different then. The past always repeats it's self. Listening to these MEN can teach us a lot!
Wow what an amazingly great cattlemen most people wanna meet superstars but that cattlemen is the superstar that I'd love to meet and learn from him and thank him
Love this man. Very interesting and I like his observations on grazing the pastures clean. It falls right in line with what I've been learning about "total grazing". Looking forward to implementing some of Jesse's practices. Thanks for a great video!
Hey!! You found it! I sure hope his wisdom helps you out and you can see some improvement through it! Also, it was great visiting with you today!! I can’t wait for your video to go out! ❤️
Your "tuition" comment made me think of the relationship of tuition and the word intuition. Thanks. This was such an enjoyable interview. Love being able to share your journey ✨️
I was going to watch a shorter video, then I saw this old timer and thought he must have a lot of knowledge with such a long video. Thank you for the interview and many thanks to the old man for his openness or free sharing of his experience. I made the right choice, worth the watch.
Hello from massachusetts! I would love to write you about the amount of people out here that are just as passionate as you about farming. Love your video and share your passion. Lisa
Hi! Thank you so much!! You are welcome to send us an email. Breakingnewroots@gmail.com. After a whole year on the road and visiting over 100 farms we are now settling down in Virginia. But we love connecting with people in all forms!
Thanks, this young man gets more work done by breakfast than most men do all day long! You know why I know that? My dad taught me that a fartin horse will never tire, a fartin man is the man to hire! My farm/house is 1/2 mile from Redmond minerals, can smell garlic when they make their garlic infused salt.
I had a very small one man business yrs ago Me that was it 365. I used to occasionally hire help and pay them with $ and buy their lunch, feed your help and they'll come back. When helping with wheat harvest the farmers wives came out twice a day and feed us the help. You need to understand human nature along with nature itself. You can't expect anyone else to do anything you're not willing to do yourself. Life will teach you lessons if you pay attention 😊
He has learned a lot and unfortunately the community may lose his wisdom and work ethic. I was thinking him not wanting to hire. He was talking to a 28 year old. Now imagine Greg Judy or Joel Salatin talking to him. Really appreciating and plenty of been there done that. Then maybe he would be willing to take on an intern. One from them, respectful and hard working. Joel and Greg don't have land in Florida. So they don't know his context, fancy word. But they sure would be respectful. Ps I am 60, little farm experience so 28 with experience 6th generation, you are way closer.
Absolutely. That’s a good thought too about talking to someone older, maybe. But also, I think he genuinely loves the work he does and while he slows down some of his enterprises, I don’t think he’ll ever stop to retire. ❤️
Big farm corporation/and slaughterhouse manage this around the world. You can buy meat in Uruguay, argentina from Canada and 🇺🇸. And meat from brazil or uruguay here in usa. Non corporate big farmers and costumer around the world need to connect and help each other. And past wisdom to young future farmers
Wow, what an amazing farmer, humble and smart a great inspiration, God bless from South Africa, I'm leasing land and have started with pasture raised poultry - Joel Salatin style. i am passionate about the land and bio diversity next step to have grass fed sheep - regenerative farming.
I'd like to talk to this gentleman. I'm in Florida and will travel from the Tampa area to visit him. I'd also like to talk to the gentleman that mulches with only hay in the Tampa area.
Loved listening to you ,and your lateral thinking! You were born the same year as my dad and so full of knowledge. I’m doing my best to learn as much as I can from my dad while I can, but I can’t wait to tell him about your spider and fly strategy!! I’ll teach him something for once. Much respect from a little town in SE Queensland Australia.
This Man is Amazing!! I learned a lot from what he is saying. It's hard to explain but Most of what I learned doesn't completely relate to farming. Just Wisdom...
Hes an amazing man! Fantastic interview you did…also i just came from watching your interview with Jarhead which was terrific as well. You have a new fan and subscriber. Keep up the great work! 👍🏼
Thank you so much!! Meeting with Jesse was great!! I learned so much that day! Paul is my husband, he is the editing guy and really does a great job! ❤️
Who says "People don't want to be out on the farm?" So many people want to be on the farm, that they pay an excessive amount for farms relative to what they would be worth as a business.
I was one of the farmers who drove my tractor to Washington. During those years, every crop we grew would guarantee a loss at our county's average yield. Interest rates were as high as 18%. The Carter Administration's 1977 Farm bill was the beginning of the end for so many of us. The Reagan Administration followed with (Mourning in America) and a stated policy to remove 800,000 farmers from the land because we were viewed as the "excess resources of agriculture". We were sent to town to compete with non farm workers. The most powerful forces of industry created a system of constant job competition by purposefully driving us off the land by force, and not for better opportunities. This effectively drove down the price of labor. We were pawns in their chess game and we became their collateral damage. Looking back, we can see when and how the middle class of America began to fracture. Farmers, for the most part, are taught to be price takers in the market. What will you "give" me, is always the primary marketing plan. Farmers sell everything at wholesale prices and buy everything at retail prices. Producers of storable commodities produce an annual supply in advance of a one day demand, so the market treats the inventory as a surplus, when in fact, surpluses and shortages rarely occur, and almost never last, because America is a breadbasket. Jesse was smart enough to stay out the invisible snare that caught and choked so many of us. Sadly, it appears that no one is prepared to continue his legacy. I noticed that Jesse referred to cows as union workers, inferring that union workers are lazy. We need to remind Jesse that without American Unions, his railroad job would have been less rewarding, making the purchase of his farm more difficult.
Oh wow! Thank you so much for sharing your story!! As a younger generation farmer, it’s crazy to hear these history’s. I only know what I’m dealing with now but to hear how we actually get here is mind blowing.
I’m from Boston born and raised. I’ve worked the corporate life. I have money! I’m looking to buy a farm. I want to grow my own food and relax on my farm.
Thank you for spending the time to record this gentleman's story
That's my father in law! He is a great man, very wise, and a 1 of a kind. We live a few hours from him and visit when we can.
Hi!! He really is so great!! I’m sure you cherish him but he was so welcoming to us and his knowledge is amazing! We are so thankful to have met him!
You should visit him weekly! He won’t be hear forever
This man is a bad ass hard man. Full of wisdom would have loved a dad like this man would have squeezed every ounce of wisdom he had in him.
He is pretty cool!! I could have talked for hours with him.
Aye that's my grandpa! It's a beautiful farm we always love visiting he is an amazing man! And by the way yes you can tell his beef is soooo much better then store bought! You can tell the difference it tastes and makes you feel so much better it's just all together better for you
Hi!! That’s so great! Your grandpa is such an amazing guy! I am very grateful to have been able to talk with him!
How much of the mineral salt does he give to his cattle? And how often? Thanks in advance

I love the quality of the people your videos highlight. This gentleman has adapted to his climate and cattle. He is smart as can be.
Thank you so much!!! Seems a bit contrary to the Gabe Brown style or Roots So Deep farms that graze of maybe ⅓ to ½ before moving on.
Your "tuition" comment made me think of the relationship of tuition and the word intuition. Thanks.
This was such an enjoyable interview. Love being able to share your journey ✨️
Thank you so much!! That’s a great way to relate the words! Yes.
Thank you Jesse I learned so much. Jesus said there will always be seed time and harvest. Nature's timing is so important. Thank you.

Yes!! I completely agree!! Jesse is amazing!
I'm so curious as to what flavor the tulips impart to the beef. What an amazing person, great interview!
Thank you! Jesse is amazing! I don’t think the turnips change the flavor much in the beef. They probably would in milk though.

I would love to see how thick those fields are in growing season. They look fairly thin in January I think she said.
Oh yeah! I’m sure they are lush! They were still pretty dense in January and he used cover crop too!
Who says "People don't want to be out on the farm?" So many people want to be on the farm, that they pay an excessive amount for farms relative to what they would be worth as a business.
Absolutely
And I relate to him as a barber.
The local governments shutting down small farms is not helping the situation...
