Why did the original surgeon remove that then not reconstruct that? I'm aware she was probably in emergency surgery but that was just cruel leaving her with nothing and not even telling her that was going to happen.

    • @TheNinjaNiky
      @TheNinjaNiky ปีที่แล้ว +28

Because being under anesthesia for longer than necessary is risky. If complications occur during surgery, and if the patient doesn't have a proxy, the hospital makes the decision. And not too mention the price, and what insurance does and doesn't cover. Them doing a full reconstruction wouldn't of been right either regardless if they could or not. What if her insurance didn't pay and then she's stuck with a bill she would've have wanted? They're a lot of reasons as to why they could've came to the decision they did

@@TheNinjaNiky no, they arent. what i mean is exactly what i said. this kind of thing will never happen to the extent that the surgeon you are seeing wont be able to tell you BEFOREHAND when undergoing any surgery exactly what to expect and to get your go head on doing a thing like THAT. you have plenty of options. the threat of being under too long trying to decide what to do and just dong something drastic to save a life, finding proxies, and having the hospital ultimately deal with making decisions for a patient that cant are NOT problems for every field of medicine. only the emergency department and only in very rare cases.
i wasnt saying anything except how it was THAT bad to have done a patient this way given tit wasnt an emergency situation and how i would have ultimately sued, but go ahead. gripe about the fact i said you are wrong. in fact, your entire statement could have just not happened and been more informative. so yeah, THATS what "and?" since you want to snap back about it. this was not that kind of situation and you were just wrong thats what "and?". dont come at ppl with "and?" unless you're sure you are sure nobody can snap right back at your fool self hon.

@@mikkihesson3509 I wasn't trying to be rude first off, I was asking you to elaborate. And I am right, I know I am right because I work in medicine. Not too mention I've also had a few surgeries, all besides one were planned. You're crazy if you think surgeons always know what they're going to find when they cut someone open. They're a lot of things that don't show up on tests, and they don't know how you'll do with anesthesia until you're under. What you're saying literally undermines one of the most important jobs when it comes to surgery, the anesthesiologist. There's a reason they're typically the highest paid doctor, they're the ones that try and keep you alive if problems occur. They watch your levels, they administer medicine, they make sure everything is okay while the surgeon works. That's their whole job. I wish what you're saying was true, but it's not. A lot of people die because of unexpected things. Surgeons can even do something called exploratory surgery sometimes if they want to know more before they act on a plan. I'm not sure what you're trying to argue because everything I've stated is absolutely a thing, only difference is specialty. And also, plastic surgery is also apart of ER and trauma rooms anyway

Optometrist here and I can't tell you how many people I've seen where their quality of life has been vastly improved by referring them for prosthetics. Sometimes doctors get very caught up with the health portion and don't bother considering patient cosmesis and functionality in the world. My most recent case was a man who lost his vision via an accident a few years before, and when I took the time to talk to him and his wife, since the accident he basically won't go out in public. So I referred him and now that he's got a prosthetic he's back to doing normal life things.

      Absolutely.
I had a beautiful smile. I'm not trying to brag, I'm just setting up the scene.
I had 3 dentists in my life and they were all super impressed with my teeth.
Of course my friends and family but also strangers would compliment my smile.
Then, suddenly my teeth were damaged.
My insurance was crap and so I was stuck with a sub par orthodontist.
He was supposed to give me veneers and implants but when he went in to remove my too-damaged teeth, he took more than he was supposed to.
When I woke up I had no top teeth and only 6 lower front teeth.
I had an upper denture made but it was NOTHING like my real teeth.
The teeth in the denture are small.
      Narrow and short.
My top lip curves in and now it doesn't even look like I HAVE and upper lip at all.
      I've cried and cried.
I didn't go back to him for my implants obviously because I couldn't trust him..
(He also sent me home with no pain meds and when I called back in EXTREME pain he left me to fend for myself.)
      Long story short...
      Now I'm broke.
My smile looks worse now than ut did woth my damaged teeth.
My face and mouth are caving in and I'm still in my 30s.
I was once so beautiful .
Now I look 20 years older and trashy.
      I don't go out anymore.
I don't smile. (If something is funny and I do find myself laughing, I quickly cover my mouth because I don't even want my husband or kids to see me.)
Some Doctors need to get it together.
      I'm an RN.
So I know that some of you are fantastic.
I just wish there were more fantastic ones like you and less sh*tty ones.
Unfortunately it seems to be the opposite. 😔😕

I ended up a very small framed adult (child size) at 5'2' and 98 lbs. The last dentist I had was fabulous!!! He brought in the technician, so that we could met and he could see how small my mouth is.

So when are professionals going to start holding other mds to task for thinking this kind of thing is acceptable? I don't care if it's cancer or whatever, if they need reconstruction or a prosthetic it is their job to make the patient whole. To do half the job and walk away needs to stop being acceptable.
Nobody else can do half their job and leave the client to finish it. It's certainly not ok to do with people's health and wellbeing.

My guess was they came into complications when doing whatever surgery they were supposed to do. And if she signed the paperwork saying they have authority to do whatever is best, then they weren't in the wrong really. Especially if there wasn't another good choice. Usually they'd ask whatever proxy to make the decisions, but if she doesn't have one, then it's up to the hospital. And waking someone up from anesthesia to go back under relatively soon is pretty risky on it's own. So they're a few reasons as to why the doctors might have did what they did

@TheNinjaNiky I can understand this, but that looks like so much tissue to remove. One tooth goes through part of the front of her nose/septum, so her entire septum had to be removed? Maybe it was an emergency that didn't allow for a reconstruction during the original visit, but that really should be part of the complete plan. I also can't tell if why it had to be removed was explained afterwards, because all we hear is that it wasn't what she expected.

Don't forget us medical assistants! We are like the ground troops, assigned to assist and clean up. Nurses get all the glory, but the majority of who people meet in the office are medical assistants. The job may seem menial, but it's definitely not. We have to know the ins and outs of procedures and why they are done the way they are. We have to know which medications are for what and how to administer them or even mix them. Doctors and nurses couldn't do their jobs efficiently without us! We set up the equipment and instruments, medications and prep the patient. We are charged with sterilizing and cleaning up after. We verify all of the information with the patient prior to the doctor or PA seeing them. We process the samples and send them out or prep them to be looked at by the doctor. Unfortunately, we are also the first person an unhappy person sees, and we have to try to make them comfortable and calm them down before they see the doctor. We are no small part of any medical practice, but, like the grunts on the field, only the generals get noticed, and we get maybe a beer, lol! It doesn't matter much to me because I love my job and I didn't take it for glory or attention. I just want to help fix people and make their lives better. I don't have to go to work, I GET to go to work. How many people can say that? So, please be kind to us grunts and know we really do care very much about you.

You said it was a cosmetic procedure, rhinoplasty or something else? If it’s been within the last 7yrs you should obtain those from the office, surgery center, hospital your surgery was done. My guess is a complication that was unplanned for and the only way to get done was to remove your septum. If you could get those records, your mystery would be solved. You can tell me MYOB, but did you have to pay out of pocket or your insurance covered some of the expenses?

    • @KB-ct7th
      @KB-ct7th ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@tacosmargs58 sorry for the delay, I have bronchitis and it just doesn’t want to go away 😫. The 7years I refer to is that any Doctor, Hospital, outpatient Radiology, etc. has to maintain a patient’s medical records for that period of time. After that they are usually destroyed in one manner or another. You said that your insurance paid a portion and you paid a portion of the initial surgery which you say was cosmetic. Insurance generally doesn’t cover “plastic” surgery. Was there a reason (car accident and your nose was broken?) Something like that, or you always disliked your nose and decided to go for it?Was the surgery in the office operating room or in a hospital or outpatient surgery center? As I said previously, it would be to your peace of mind to see the Consent for Procedure, the Operative Report, Anesthesiologist’s Report, and the Pathology Report also. If the surgery was in a hospital or surgery center you would have to complete a records release and they will charge you a nominal fee, and they would likely have you come back with ID and the payment. If you had it done in his office surgery it may be a little different.
Did he also do your reconstruction and did you pay out of pocket? I’m not asking to be nosy (pardon the pun). If your insurance covered a portion of the original, they should have covered some for the Reconstruction. With the initial surgery paperwork, you should be able to get a picture in your mind of the course of treatment. Consent shows you what was planned, Operative Report will document all the details, including if there was a Co-Surgeon or Assistant, Anesthesia will also report details of medications, time, any unusual occurrence, Pathology will document the tissue received as well as any special prep needed and if for instance there was a skin lesion the surgeon wanted tested for skin cancer, etc.. After you receive all this as paper or CD, you should be able to find out what caused the Septum to be removed and why, were there any specific issues during the procedure? Excessive bleeding, an error with an incision etc. There could be more to this story, but you won’t know until you have the initial surgery information. Depending how you feel about this, if you think you want to know, then you might ask for the records for the Reconstruction, as well. I would want them, but I’m weird like that.Sorry it’s so wordy, I don’t want to influence your choices more than I may have already. If you need me to clarify anything, let me know. Take care, stay safe and stay well.

    One question:
Some types of tumors secret some molecules that direct the formation of blood vessles towards them, right?
Couldn't it be possible in theory to use a purified version of that to improve blood flow in tissues that have too little blood supply?

I work in a lab (you probably do too judging by the username) that grows human cells and that is actually a big area in the field right now! In order to model any part of the human body more complex than a few sheets of cells you need vessels, as otherwise even with media providing nutrients they can't get to the cells in the middle. Tumors are a good source of inspiration for this (and a lot of other adaptability mechanisms). Right now VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) is the primary candidate

This situation is horrible. It looks like from a joke that became real:
In hospital nurse rolling the pation through cold unhabitate part of building.
    Patient:
    - Where are you taking me!?
    - To morgue.
    - But i'm alive!
    - If doctor said to morgue, than to morgue.
