Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the feel of the IPF-300-it’s probably my best playing guitar right now in terms of weight and feel, but sonically, I feel like it is somehow lacking something. @@zuperdee Food for thought as it were…😎. Perhaps I will do some comparisons with guitars I believe have a similar feel and function. I can tell you already just after a day with the LS that I certainly prefer the neck and pickups! A lot of overtones come from the trapeze style bridge in my opinion and gives it a more “earthy” tone and feel.
Got this ffls. Reworded 50s w/tbleed. Pups are ok. Adjusted poles not working but fixed it , new tail, bridge, these take a Nashville. Tone and neck are great… fret work great. Tuners? Ok. Pleased. Over all nice guitar
Hi Angel….thanks so much for watching and commenting. Yes, I think FF did a good job on this Little Sister style guitar. I never played a Epiphone Wildkat, but I would say it’s similar in specs (minus the Bigsby). Small bodied semi-hollow, dual P90’s, flamed maple top on a mahogany body, master vol/tone, 24.75 scale, 22 fret, neck meets at the 14th…set neck…👍
Beautiful guitar! Nice to see a less expensive alternative to the B&G. The one issue I have is with the pickups. They sounded a little harsh to me for P90s. Anyone else agree or do I need new hearing aids? So, maybe they would have to be swapped out. But I still love these guitars because you can mod them and end up with a really really nice guitar on a budget.
Hi Baci302…thanks so much for watching and commenting. The P90’s can be “tamed” depending on the tone you are going with…😎 Of course a swap out if you need to is always an option….truly appreciate your stopping into the channel! Much thanks…🙏👍
You might give Mr. Odin a decoy box. Usually, any fresh box will do. Fresh boxes smell like wood, which smells like the forest and dry leaves, and cats have the instinct to nest in them when they smell that.

Hi Patrick…thanks for watching and commenting. Anything is “doable” and I have heard of a couple of folks who have done just that. Is it a problem I would take on right off the bat? No…it’s not at least for me. I see no reason to do it unless they break or bind and I honestly don’t see that happening. The tuners themselves are open gear, and are holding tune well, no slips, grinding, popping….unless something “breaks” which can happen to any tuning shaft, I am leaving them alone. The original “plastic” tuners on my 54 Les Paul JR gave out in the mid 70’s….I replaced them…😎
@@JimmyStewart1 Cool. Thanks. I'm a long time Firefly fan with many of their guitars. Your channel actually turned me on to IYV. I've got the semi hollow and the green monster from them. I try to keep my max guitar number at 12, so I have owned more IYVs and fireflies than I currently own. I did have both the cutaway lemon burst FFLS and the sunburst non-cutaway. I actually never really strong them, so I didn't know if the plastic could just be taken off. They were fun guitars, but we didn't really connect. Glad to see they're making upgrades to the new releases, as usual! All best.
@@Ksantipacat That’s great Patrick…glad to hear the channel has been of assistance to you. I can certainly understand just not “bonding” with a particular guitar…it happens. Hi Rob…thanks for watching and commenting. I didn’t realize Cozart had done a copy as well. Interesting…wonder if they had them made in the same plant, as Firefly uses a number of plants to manufacture their different models. Truly appreciate your stopping into the channel! 🎸👍
I’m also somewhat surprised that they put a control cavity cover on the back, rather than fishing the controls through the F-holes, as is normally done on hollow/semi-hollow guitars. Why on earth did they do this?
Hi PG…I guess in keeping with how the original B&G was done I imagine…I actually prefer it myself, but…hey they kept it authentic! Truly appreciate your stopping in my friend…always a pleasure! 🎸👍
FireFly looks to be a decent guitar. They both look like Gibson’s "Blues Hawk” they’ve made since ‘96 that I can remember. A few of the Gibsons at one time had a unhooked p90 in the back to eliminate some of the hum. Between $1,000&$1,900.
Hi J. Burrough…thanks so much for watching and commenting. Yes, they do resemble the BluesHawk now that you mention it. The exceptions being that the BluesHawk was a 25.5 scale instead of the normal Gibson scale of 24.75 and of course the bridge system and headstock. I think only Epiphone makes it now. Appreciate your stopping into the channel and sharing your thoughts and insight. Much appreciated…🎸👍
Hi Justin…thanks so much for watching and commenting. Umm…not sure what my plan is at this point, but starting to think I should consider my options. I like this guitar and the sound is great even in the middle pickup area it sounds great and it doesn’t seem to have lower output when switching from neck to middle then to the bridge I didn’t hear it go down in volume and great tone , now I’m going to have to convince my wife that I need this guitar 🎸. Lol
Hi Michael…thanks so much for watching and commenting. This guitar is a “winner”! Looks/feels/plays/sounds great. Remember, this review and demo was right out of the box! Nothing done except a tuning! 🎸👍
I have an earlier version of this guitar and it's one of my faves. I did make a couple changes..Slick p90 pickups and new tuners. That said, I love the Slicks ..Not as microphonic as the FFs. And the tuners I replaced with were worse than the originals. Not a lot of options out there and I have one more new set to try. If they fail I will reinstall the originals. The open headstock looks great and I understand why they did it but I much prefer the more conventional system.
Hi Michael…thanks for watching and commenting. This newer version has the upgraded stainless frets and Alnico 5 pickups. Tuners so far for me are holding just fine. Don’t anticipate any issues. The Slick pups are also very nice. I have their offset semi-hollow with a Tele in the bridge and P90 in the neck…nice! Appreciate your stopping into the channel and sharing. 🎸👍
Nice review, great sounding guitar! Which do you like better, the older firefly offset w/ the p-90s, or this one? You know, say if you had to pick just one as hinted at in the opening there buddy! Anyhoo, love the p90s as always and Jimmy Stewart is an absolute King 👑👑👑🎸🎸🎸
Thanks so much Mo!! Tough question as I have a number of guitars with my fav pickups (P90’s) and I have only played this today so…I can say however that this guitar won’t be going anywhere soon…😎
Hi Krullmatic…Yeah, he was enjoying himself here (which he usually does) 😻 Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Really do appreciate your stopping into the channel! Much thanks from Odin and myself…🙏👍
I check pretty much every day, its interesting as things like the LPS pages dwindle, and see which models hold their price and sometimes get low enough I might snag one. I've been surprised that the MN hasn't sold out, that's an attractive guitar in my mind@@JimmyStewart1
I had a strange feeling you’d end up getting one of these next, given your love for P90’s! Odin seems to LOVE that styrofoam for some reason! Personally, I think I’ll pass on this one-that headstock design looks like it might be even more prone to breakage than a Gibson Les Paul! I’ve seen at least one other video where someone actually did upgrade the plastic string posts to proper brass ones, but in order to do so, he had to stick wooden plugs into the crudely cut headstock to accommodate the smaller diameter brass posts. Not sure I’d want to go through all that. The truss rod adjustment at the heel is nice-although I imagine they HAD to do that, since that classical-style headstock design undoubtedly precludes putting the adjustment up there. The 14th fret body join undoubtedly makes upper fret access more difficult, but then again, this is obviously not meant to be a shredder’s kind of guitar. I’m not sure I’d trade my IYV IPF-300 for one. Having said that, this guitar REALLY does have a lovely and unique sound-I’m not sure on this end how true to life it is, but this guitar seems to have a woody, resonant kind of sound to it, ESPECIALLY on some of those high notes, that not even an ES-335 has! Am I hearing it right, or does it sound different at your end? What have they done to achieve this?
I was hesitant due to this as I talked about, but honesty after seeing/playing and hearing it, I have little issue with it. I looked closely at the headstock and the drilled holes for the tuner posts, and mine look drilled just fine. The sound is definitely unique, and I am loving it. Upper access on the higher frets is just fine, especially for this style guitar!
@@JimCzerwinski-p5d I give the price in the video…it’s $199 plus $27 shipping, so $226 all in. Firefly at this point unfortunately, only ships to the lower 48 states in the US. Hope that helps and thanks for watching/commenting. 🎸👍
Hi Freddy…thanks so much for watching and commenting. Nice!! Congrats and enjoy once you receive yours. Regardless, it’s a fine guitar and fun to play! Truly appreciate your stopping in to the channel and sharing. Once again…thanks and congrats! 🎸👍
Hi Roger…yeah, unfortunately at this point Firefly only ships to the lower 48 US states. Small company with limited logistics. You could (and some have) use a shipping broker to get one to Europe, but the cost along with import taxes, etc increases significantly. I know there are a few folks “across the pond” who have received Firefly guitars… Thanks so much for stopping in to the channel! Didn’t know that rocking horse poo is so rare in the UK! 😎👍
@@JimmyStewart1 yes Jimmy, rocking horse poo is very scarce here now, almost as scares as chicken’s teeth. Maybe Firefly will spread its wings in the future and, get an outlet nearer Europe. Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.
That’s certainly a possibility as they grow and expand…🤞 I knew when I lived in Wales that I should have started a rocking horse farm. I went back to the States and invested in dental floss bushes and pigmy ponies instead…hindsight 🤔
Love the amber color top, semi- hollow with f-holes, P-90s and the sound, but will not buy because of the ridiculous classical guitar headstock! Maybe glue wood strips in the slots in the headstock, drill for standard tuners and reshape the headstock design for a straight string pull design and refinish it!!! Yeah, that's the ticket!
I think the headstock gives it a unique look. With the exception of the ABS winding poles, they kept the design in accordance with the original B&G LS that you now need to “sign up” in a queue to get one! Oh, and at 7 times the cost for the Chinese version or 22 times the cost for the master build Israel version. Or, you could do what you suggest…😎 Thanks so much for stopping into the channel…🎸👍
🤣 Prejudiced? Me?? That will probably be the starting point…😎 Then on to “duplicate” purpose or perceived redundancy of my intended use. Or I just make more room…🤔
Hi Ron…thanks for watching and commenting. It’s the “old school” design..think delta blues from the 20’s and 30’s. Gives the guitar a lot of character and with the trapeze bridge, a very unique tone as well! Appreciate your stopping into the channel! Much thanks…🎸👍
@@JimmyStewart1 no worries dude, I like your channel, I bet they were breaking a lot of strings on the prototype and the solution was plastic. Electric strings are higher tension I believe so cheap metal ones probably ate strings
Those tuners are nasty and will always be a problem with that guitar. You cannot simply drop in Grovers to replace them when they inevitably fail. Plastic? What were they thinking??? Next year when they put a proper electric guitar headstock on it with locking tuners it will be worth considering. This one if wall decoration only.
They kept with the concept and design of the Little Sister, including the headstock. Would metal (brass) string shafts had been better? I definitely think so, but don’t see these failing anytime soon honestly. Should they at some point, I will replace them but for now they are holding just fine. Some may consider “wall decoration” but mine plays just fine and I will continue to play it. Thanks for stopping in…🎸👍
@@freddymclain I have looked at pics of a number of them from different folks who have bought one, along with my own and they all look a bit different. Some have more flame than others, different areas, etc. It would be the 1st time that FF did a “fotoflame” on any of their guitars.
@@freddymclain Well…I guess we will just have to agree to disagree…😎 I have seen a number of fotoflame tops used by both Grote and IYV on some of their models in the past. They all looked identical and you could tell easily that they were. If these are, then it’s some of the best I ever seen.

@@JimmyStewart1I too have wondered how the IYV IPF-300 compares to something like the FFLS. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the feel of the IPF-300-it’s probably my best playing guitar right now in terms of weight and feel, but sonically, I feel like it is somehow lacking something. Food for thought as it were…😎. Perhaps I will do some comparisons with guitars I believe have a similar feel and function. I can tell you already just after a day with the LS that I certainly prefer the neck and pickups! A lot of overtones come from the trapeze style bridge in my opinion and gives it a more “earthy” tone and feel.
Nice review, how are the necks n fretwork on these ls models? You haven’t steered me wrong on recommendations yet 🎸🎸🎯

Nice guitar! Would you say that it is similar to Epiphone Wildkat?
The P90’s can be “tamed” depending on the tone you are going with…😎

Is the plastic on the tuning pegs removable?
All best.

Whats it cost

Hi Roger…yeah, unfortunately at this point Firefly only ships to the lower 48 US states. Small company with limited logistics. @@JimmyStewart1 yes Jimmy, rocking horse poo is very scarce here now, almost as scares as chicken’s teeth. Maybe Firefly will spread its wings in the future and, get an outlet nearer Europe. Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

Or, you could do what you suggest…😎
