Civilians Return to Debaltseve: Russian Roulette (Dispatch 96)

  • After a month of heavy fighting, the pro-Russia separatists of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) finally took the strategically important rail hub town of Debaltseve in eastern Ukraine.
In early January, the DNR had launched a winter offensive on Ukrainian positions, seizing the Donetsk airport and attacking Ukrainian checkpoints across the line of control separating the two sides. Once the airport had fallen, the DNR focused its attention on Debaltseve, surrounding the town on three sides and pounding it with artillery for four straight weeks. The attack killed dozens and forced thousands of residents to flee.
VICE News traveled to Debaltseve a few days after it fell to the DNR to speak to some of the civilians who were slowly returning to their town, which now lies in ruins.

Where was a clear violation of the ceasefire? Debaltseve was in a kettle, behind the frontline. Therefore considered DNR territory. Poroshenko just didn´t admit that there was a kettle, but after all obviously we found out, that there really was a kettle. So the Ukraine broke the agreement respectively new they were lost, but also that they couldn´t give up debaltseve. Maybe Poroshenko was waiting for a miracle or external help. Time was against him. Just watch the Video of the Surviving Commanders discussing the situation afterwards, clearyl saying they were dumped there and betrayed by Ukraine government, also been told, that there wa no kettle, if there even was a double kettle.

they want to join russia, i would aso choose russia before ukranie. why not allow them to join Russia? isnt this democracy?
whats the big deal? its like, imagine that USA loses a war or somthing, and has to split, imagine that 40 states are now the "New" Usa. and the other 10 states decide to make a new country. imagine one of those 10 states wanting to go back to "USA", ofcourse, the ppl in power of those 10 states wont let them rejoin, they would lose money/land, influence. but its the ppl of the state that wants to leave, the one that matters. by not allowing them to join the "new" usa, they'r being held as slaves in a way. That's what the DNR is trying to do, they'd rather "die standing than live on their knees", they dont want to be slaves, they dont want to work for the ukranian state. and they'r influences involved. since USA is interested in a few things about Ukraine joining the EU, and its also interested in Russia.
USA is a very hostil nation, they've the world's largest budget in military, and more than 160 military bases arround the world. they're always at war. USA needs war to live, war is a good business, a really good one. Millions of people rely on direct and indirect military spending for their jobs. Roughly 75% of [US] federal research and development expenditure is devoted to military projects. Billions, even Trillons of dollars are spent, in "defense", and in the "military budget", you can google by yourself. And how do you "collect" such a big amount of money from the people/tax payers? convincing them, saying things like "we need war, they're bad, we're good, we're the world's police, etc." is it so hard to believe, that media, like fox news, bbc, and so on, have theyr own agenda? and that they'r being paid, to push this kind of tougth thru your mind? when its been proven, thru the centuries, that the humand mind its so easy to manipulate, even Socrates 2400 years ago, was already talking about how to create a "perfect city, with "perfect guards" thinking about what to let them read, how to make them believe what he wanted them to believe, how to make them react how he wanted them to react, manipulating they'r way of life.
Its been also known, that intelligency agencies, have a lot to do when its about politics, and manipulating them in other countries, for the "defense" of USA, minor examples are, in places like ecuador, venezuela, in 1970-1980, comunism would've been the way, if it wasnt for the intelligency agencies of usa. those are some of the "known" cases, the posibilities of the unknown, are so big, that its a waste of time to calculate.
if an argument, pops up between Russia and USA, who would i support? i would support Russia, in a logical way, the chances are, USA wants to take adventage over Russia.
If an "argument" pops between ISIS and USA who would i support? USA, ofc, but in that case, ISIS as a religion, isn't logical, and who knows, maybe USA "created" this enemy, and he migth be figthing him sooner than we tougth.
I'm not against religion, i consider some of them to be good for the humanity. and dont take me wrong, faith, can move mountains. i'd rather be a Christian, than an agnostic. but Faith is a gift that I have yet to receive.
Soz about my english, i'm self-taugth.
    cya.

VICE News is sure doing a great job with its propaganda (in the neutral sense of the word). Having seen plenty of unedited interviews I know most of them consist of the locals telling you how bad the Ukrainian army was and what horrible things they did (or their friend's cousin said they did). It's exactly the cutting out of that part, coupled with showing pictures of destruction in the background, that makes the viewer question the sincerity of the residents. I suspect there's also some remarks on who they blame for destroying the city in VICE's footage that you don't need to see. "We think it'll be better than it used to be", but we won't tell you how it used to be because then you would understand why they say what they say.
Allowing the people to speak, but making the viewer doubt what they say. Very subtle and professional job, VICE, and I mean it. ;-]

And clearly speaking out against fresh "liberators" is a bloody stupid thing to do. Combine these two things and you get everyone singing praises for the conquerors, its the same deal in pretty much every war anywhere. Next time Ukrainians come along the same people will be praising Kiev. Kind of a weather vane behaviour but that is just how people are.

reading though the comments i am truly confused… let me elaborate:
    1. Why would you say that everyone that made a statement was not being genuine about it? One lady made a great example: the ukrainians only offered humanitarian help once in six months, the first thing the DNR does is bring in food and water.
    2. If you would be a pro-ukrainian you either would have left or you wouldn't be seeking an interview, its not like there is an armed separatist next to every single citizen
    3. Stop this stupid America vs. Russia bashing! It has absolutely no positive or constructive outcome other than driving a wedge between people for absolutely no reasons. both have done wrong.
Just to clear somethings up before people start bashing me:
I am not pro russian, since I personally believe that russia has a great lack of understanding the concept of democracy and Putin is truly not the man who drives these values. But it has a rich history, with lovely people and a lot of opportunity (i have been to russia several times)
Neither am I pro USA. I love the country, the core values and the warmth of the people but take the liberty to say that I disagree on several aspects of their foreign policy. ( I have been to the States on several occasions, having travelled both the east coast and the west coast)
so if you judge, do it constructively

    • @bazingapuzza

      6 years later.
Well the situation is not that easy, both Russia and Ukraine ad wrong.
Ukraine was very hard with the minorities, and this is why reason the conflict started to begin with, but then Putin used this excuse to invade other country and take military advantage.
There is literally no wrong or right.

    • @bazingapuzza
      @bazingapuzza 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      1) the Problem here is that those people WANT TO BELIEVE that " now they have freedom " and bullshit. But we all know that Russia is everything but not a free country.
So liberated from what ? From a problematic democracy to a fake democracy ?
Even Austria was happy to be invaded by n4z1 during WW2, but then after they discovered how bad they where they did a 160 degree turn.
The point about the good is just bullshit. How knows if they didn't want to Feed the population, they didn't had for themselves, Kiev was not helping ecc.... As well as those people are pro Russian. So of course the militia was not really inclined to help the local population which helped the separatist lol.
In every war civilians which help one of the faction get killed. What is new about that ? Again i don't day is right or Wrong, is war, nothing is write.
I dont think make sense to destroy cities to " be free " is worth the pain, because there are many Democratic way of changing things. And since this " Freedom " is lead by Putin is just another joke.

Nobody asked Russians to move outside of Russia in the first place. They did because they were looking for better life. If they didn't find it, they could have moved back to Russia. My friends, it has often been said that I like war.
    My friends, I like war.
    No, friends, I LOVE WAR!
I love holocausts. I love blitzkriegs. I love defensive lines. I love sieges. Charges. I love mop-up operations and retreats.
Wars across prairies, in streets, in trenches, in grasslands, in frozen tundras, through deserts, on the sea, in the air. I love every act of war that can occur upon this earth!
I love blasting the enemy to smithereens with artillery salvos that thunder across the lines of battle.
My heart leaps with joy whenever a soldier is tossed high into the air and cut to pieces by well placed sniper rounds!
And there is nothing like a tank operator using a Tiger Acht-Acht to destroy enemy tanks.
And the feeling that comes when a soldier runs screaming from his blazing tank only to be mowed down by heavy machine gun fire is such an exquisite feeling.
Like when ranks of infantry brandish their bayonets rushing into the enemy line.
It moves me deep within my heart to watch a fresh recruit stabbing over and over into the bloated chest of a long-dead enemy.
The sight of deserters being strung up from a street lamp is an irresistible pleasure.
And there is nothing more arousing than the sounds made by prisoners of war dropping like flies, screaming in agony as they're mowed down by ear piercing Schmeissers!
When a band of pitiful resistance fighters makes their final stand with nothing but small arms, only to have their city smashed to atoms block by block by 4.8 ton bombshells, I'm in ecstasy.
I love it when my forces are ravaged by a Russian armored division. It's so sad to see towns and villages that were supposed to be defended at all costs, being laid to waste, their women and children being raped and killed.
I love to be squashed under the heel of the British and American war machines. The humiliation as my men crawl around like vermin, ducking the JAG bombers flying overhead.
Gentlemen... all I ask for is war. A war so grand as to make Hell itself tremble.

First off, the ONLY way this could be HALF WAY LEGIT is IF THEY HAD A VOTE AND "THE PEOPLE VOTED TO BE RUSSIAN" and if THEN Kiev had the Ukrainian Army shell the cities that voted to become russian, THEN they would be able to "try" to say that what they are doing is legit- BUT THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN!!! Instead, putin tried to get Ukraine's President to "just hand the country over to him", and when that didn't happen (because the people rise up- that is what that whole fight in The Maiden was all about), putin put in his "Plan B", which was a HOSTILE TAKE OVER!!! (and that is what this is)
Putin already had everything set up for it (with people that were armed, all over the east part of Ukraine), and once putin saw that he couldn't pull the same crap in the rest of Ukraine that he did in Crimea (a military take over), he started this war. Now, over 5000 are dead (which IS BLOOD ON HIS HANDS "AND THOSE THAT ARE DOING THIS FOR HIM!!!!- which they will see ON THAT LAST DAY), and now "anyone" that wants to stay Ukrainian there CAN'T EVEN SPEAK OUT (or they'll be killed by these PIECES OF CRAP!!!). That is why they wont let a "legit vote happen- EVEN NOW!!!!" Instead it's all of these "thugs" running around with guns, THREATENING EVERYONE TO NOT TALK TO THE PRESS, UNLESS ONE OF THEM IS STANDING THERE TO MAKE SURE THEY SAY WHAT THE DPR WANTS!!!!- And that is what this is, people that just talk the "pro russian propaganda".
Bottom line: "Legally ALL THOSE THAT WANT TO BE RUSSIAN *HAVE TO* JUST MOVE TO RUSSIA!!!!" That country was MADE FREE from russia (when perestroika happened) BECAUSE IT WAS "UKRAINE", NOT RUSSIA!!!! And when this piece of crap in this vid says "russia built those cities"..., it's more like "YOUR COUNTRY (russia) MURDERED THE UKRAINIANS BY THE MILLIONS, FORCED IT'S PEOPLE UPON THE UKRAINIANS, THEN *FORCED 'THEM' TO BUILD THOSE CITIES!!!!" (while the Kremlin just sat back and laughed about it!!!!) Also, THE UKRAINIANS "STILL" LET YOU LIVE IN THEIR COUNTRY AFTER PERESTROIKA HAPPENED!!!!- Which everyone sees now WAS A MISTAKE!!!!!!
So, ALL OF YOU "WANNABE RUSSIANS" BETTER GET THE HELL OUT "BEFORE WE COME!!!!!" (U.S.A.) FOR IF YOU ARE STILL THERE WHEN WE COME, "WE WONT BE TAKING ANY PRISONERS!!!!!" (you WILL BE IN HELL "THAT DAY!!!!!") You can BANK ON THAT!!!!!!!!!!!

Иван Бардов If I die, then I'll go to Heaven, but for the record: "I'm pretty good", I haven't even been wounded yet- so I'll take a good number of them before any of them get me, and you can BE SURE: "ALL THOSE THAT I GET 'WILL' BE GOING TO HELL!!!!!" The fact that they are EVEN THERE to begin with settles that!!!!- And when we go into Russia, ANY that stand against us WILL GET THE SAME!!!!! (because of "why" we're there as well) Rev. 21:8

"We've constructed a life support camp and built humanitarian aid points. Tomorrow, we will organize social welfare payments for those who need them. Today, we'll restore the mobile phone reception and water will also be restored. The electricity will be fixed during the week."
Now obviously these are all great things, and I hope they're telling the truth about their intentions and their capabilities, but where's this funding supposed to be coming from?

I hope everyone here can agree that Russia's aggression is direct parallel to nazi Germany. It all starts when the country ( Germany and Russia) say they are defending "their people". Does that mean that the world should start wars because of ethic diversity? No, you work and fix the issues, not create new ones. I support both sides on their ideals but since Russia is helping the DNR/LPR the Ukraining government deserves support from America, and for everyone who says that would make things worse, things have been getting worse since the annexation of crimea.

Smart one... The UKRAINIANS stated this war when they rolled out the tanks to suppress political dissent. It's not complicated. They replaced one dictator with another.

Still locals call proKiev forces Nazis for some reason. And things have been getting worse since coup in Kiev.

    • @MsJD13
      @MsJD13 9 ปีที่แล้ว

The coup was because the government turned down economic benefits because Russia didn't want the European Union next door. Grow up and look past the nationalism and look at the facts.

    • @tank_3487

MsJD13 Russia do not care about EU. But Russia do not want NATO bases at door step. Its strategical important thing.
Coup was cause Russia suggested better economic deal if Ukraine choose integration with Russia. So USA and EU decided to use force to change goverment.

***** That's adorable, just because I'm a United States Marine does not mean I cannot read the language I grew up speaking. Simple fact is, the Ukrainian government is committing war crimes on a level that would make Palestinians blush.
