  • The Yamaha Tenere 700 has taken the ADV market by storm. Balanced geometry, simple and reliable, comfortable, capable offroad and affordable. Plus the styling is very Rally Raid which everyone loves.
    With that styling in mind, we took inspiration from for the 1987 Sonauto Dakar Rally XT 660 bikes and jumped into phase 2 of our Tenere 700 project. Let us know what you think in the comments.

    Finally I feel like a legit upgrade that actually added to the performance of the bike. So many vids I have watched on the T7 are just burning cash and not really improving the bike. I love adventure bikes. I have a 1200GS Rallye. But the T7 really opens up different potential. Generally for any real offroad i will go smaller and ride my KTM 500XCW. But now I am seriously considering a T7 for the in between perfect Colorado backcountry bike. Thanks guys for showing what the bike can be.

      We need to speed up rebound a bit internally. We didn't have time to change setting before we needed to shoot this video. We are working with Race Tech to further refine the T7 suspension. But the suspension on this bike is pretty unsophisticated by todays standards which is partly how they were able to get the bike in the $10K price range. There is only so much we can do with it.

      We pressure wash ours all the time but you can damage just about anything with a pressure washer if you aren't careful so we don't put a guarantee on it. Our graphics are quite robust if they are installed properly. This kit is a more challenging kit to install if you haven't ever done it before. But it's not impossible. Im 32 and i could never imagine going back to a large bike TBH - Even the street pikes i ride are less than 400 Lbs.... I would recommend getting the smaller bike if you have teh money to do so. The biggest reasons are the weight balance difference, Power delivery difference and the ability to flick the bike alit easier.
      Its also ALOT less work... I've started getting a bit of a gut again since i started riding my T700 - Its almost too easy ;)
      PLUS this thing destroys trails mike a mid-weight dirt bike and less like an big old ADV Thanks to the fact that its basically a Dakar bike...

      The 1200Gs and similarly sized bikes certainly are nice on prolonged trips covering lots of miles on pavement or really good dirt roads. But the middleweight bikes like the T7, 890 and the Tiger 900 are definitely overtaking the market. The weight, power and capability in rougher terrain are just amazing. And there really isn't as much of compromise as there once was on the touring side of things either.

      @@b1ackm3ssiah I agree. I tried offroading with lots of 17" wheel based bikes like the Varadero and NC700X (which was pretty good at it due to the fairly low weight and COG). I then purchased the CRF1000L, thinking my true offroading TET tours would start, bit it was my biggest mistake ever. Too much technical failures and too much weight. I had a chance to swap it for my current VFR1200X, since I had plans for long touring in 2019/2020, but it's the last Honda I'll buy (at just 31 years old). I took a ride on the T7 last year and holy moly, I went from novice to expert on the local sand trails here. This bike feels like I threw away my shackles of weight and whatever was holding me back. First time ripping it through corners when I normally tense up or have to fight the weight of 260+ bikes. I'm expecting that the first batch of occasion bikes will be offered next year, so I'm going for a T7. I still try to perfect my offroading, but 287kg is just too freaking much.

      Yes, Yamaha is charging $10,000 USD for the Tenere 700 in the USA. Depending on the dealership, they may add the destination charge or they may discount it and of course there are taxes that are different in each state. As mentioned above the exchange rate is like a part of the equation. But the bigger difference is the very high tariff or tax that Thailand levies on motorcycles. Up to 60%. That will change the price of a motorcycle very quickly.

But every bike has room for improvement and more importantly room to tailer it to your exact needs. We didn't touch the motor. We did add a full exhaust system... mostly because it sounds incredible and we like it. Not because it NEEDS it. Seat, tires, mirrors, grips, bars, tail tidy, blinkers... all pretty normal stuff. This was phase 2 of this bike. Phase one was very basic... stuff you just have to do to make it comfortable and ready for trips. Wait until Phase 3. If you're upset by phase 2... phase 3 is going to make you melt down.

    The bike looks cool however... Your answers about the price are borderline deceitful just say the number and let the chips fall where they may or include in the description line by line. This "we don't tally the prices because they change and different retailers" is just a smoke screen. People that have the money will do it and those that won't will do parts of the upgrades. You can even use MSRP as highest number and then say it is less that than for package deals etc. Clicking on each individual link doesn't give you the answer either the shock company didn't have prices immediately available either. Close your eyes and pull the trigger for england as David Niven had said to Gregory Peck in the movie Guns of Navarone. As someone who is looking to buy a Tenere 700 have no time or patience to play cat and mouse with prices. This comment is coming from someone familiar with sales and marketing as well as a motorcycle enthusiast. Like had said there are cool upgrades in the video.

    • @UPSHIFT_ONLINE
      @UPSHIFT_ONLINE  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Prices do change and this is a lesson hard learned. Why would it be a smoke screen... it's not hard to go find the current prices. You're basically saying that you are lazy and you wanted us to do the work for you. Suspension is an impossible thing to price without having the suspension in hand and opened up. One guy might send some suspension in that needs wear parts replaced. Another guy might be sending in brand new suspension but needs a heavier spring than first though and it costs more. It's not an off the shelf thing... it's a custom service. How do we price that? Should we just throw a number up there and frustrate people when their suspension service costs significantly more? Or maybe you should make a little effort and email them or call them and get some information for you specifically.

    • @michaelidarecis
      @michaelidarecis 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UPSHIFT_ONLINE people that have money are lazy. They just want a number. A number that can give them a ball park. Your video had a completed bike with bells and whistles and it cost x amount of money. What is lazy and borderline deceitful is to NOT include that number.
      Have been in sales a long time and a lot of people are afraid to give numbers because it becomes an instant NO.
      As far as your last statement about the price wouldn't the same customer be surprised if the price was less? Why didn't you include that part in your statement? Because fear of losing the sale over cost was the motivation for not including it.
      Don't fight me listen to what am saying and throw out your ego. Take my arguments and show someone who knows sales and that person will tell you to listen...

    • @UPSHIFT_ONLINE
      @UPSHIFT_ONLINE  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you under the impression that we are selling these items and are afraid that we will lose a sale based on price. To be clear, we are a media company and this is a project bike that we did for our magazine. The only thing we sell that is on this bike is the graphics kit. And we might have to raise that price in the near future as well so posting it on a video that will live on in perpetuity is not a great idea unless we want to come back and update it. But updating hundreds of videos for all the things that change in time is not practical. Prices can change dramatically over the years and posting prices has never worked out well over time. Lessons learned the hard way. Our content in general is meant to be consumed for many years to come and things like price make our content less valuable over time. This video is a resource that shows what we have done to our Tenere 700 in a separate medium beyond our magazine. These are all parts that we have vetted for performance, our personal preference and based on relationships we have in the motorcycle industry. Our ego has nothing to do with it. It's simply a practical strategy that works for us.
