    Finally an art director youtuber! I feel like its so hard to learn about art direction and advertising straight from the people in the industry. Excited to learn more from you!

    Gave me the much needed perspective as a beginner in the design industry! Thank you!
    Just wanted to ask, if you have a document or something where you have included all the pointers which you showed during the review?
    I feel like that will be a very helpful checklist of sorts for new designers like me to refer to, when making a portfolio!

    What do you think about Behance Portfolio?

    • @artfulruckus
      @artfulruckus  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! I think Behance portfolios are fine, but creating a portfolio website and placing it on a custom domain name will definitely come across as more professional.
      I view Behance portfolios as a great way to attract clients that are already on Behance. For job applications or general freelance work, I would work towards getting a site built when you’re able.

  • @jonathanlotobi
    @jonathanlotobi 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Due to financial constraint, is a Behance portfolio enough to get a job or clients?

    • @artfulruckus
      @artfulruckus  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely, you can use a Behance portfolio to successfully apply for full time roles or get freelance clients. At the end of the day, it’s about the quality of work you’re doing and how easy it is to find it. Having your own site and your own domain will come across as more professional, but is not a deal breaker by any means. Starting with a free platform like Behance and moving to a more custom solution later in your career when you begin to earn more is a common approach.

    I love these videos! Super helpful. I wish i knew what website builder everyone used. Im having a hard time finding one as Wix is too complex, and SquareSpace it too plain. Also, is it better to have all the projects up front in thumbnails, or is a scrolling page better to show all the work laid out after the next? (Will take advice from anyone)

    • @artfulruckus
      @artfulruckus  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Appreciate the kind words! There are a ton of options for building portfolio sites - several in this video use Webflow, Behance, Adobe Portfolio, and Wordpress. Behance and Adobe Portfolio are the easiest to use. Webflow and Wordpress will give you more control but will take a little time to learn how to build pages.
      As far as layout, I like the thumbnail approach as it lets the user choose what they want to look at rather than forcing them to scroll to find certain projects.

      Definitely a lot of fear in the industry right now, which is understandable with the new tools coming out. There’s fear in a lot of industries right now though with the layoffs we’re seeing.
      Everything is cyclical so I think it will be okay once the storm clears, creatives will just need to stay up to date with the new technology like they’ve always done.

    The TH-cam algorithm did good today. Super helpful to hear your thoughts and I picked up some valuable tips for my portfolio, such as links back to the gallery and some items to include and exclude.
    I'm currently kind of torn between web development and design, and I've heard a lot of people recommend picking one or the other. Nevertheless, I'm still studying both for now. It's hard figuring out how to showcase the process for the development and design as well as discussing branding decisions without overwhelming the reader, so I appreciated your insights on the discussion and showcasing of each step. It was illuminating to see how other people tackled their process and what positives and negatives were there.

      Love to hear that, thanks so much for weighing in - glad you found it valuable! Balancing development with design can certainly be challenging, but it sounds like you’re doing exactly what you should by chunking things down to make the topics easily digestible for the user.
