    I love imagining what an ordinary day might have looked like there, with hundreds of employees manning stations and walking through the hallways; all of the noise of pumps, fluids, fans, furnaces, and generators. To think that every bit of life is now completely gone... it's rather saddening.
    Many speak of the "geniuses" behind ancient ruins, but no one stops to consider the brilliant minds that were responsible for constructing facilities such as this one, which isn't comparable to today's designs (where microarchitecture paves the way for automated systems). Nearly all of the equipment seen in this video is mechanical/analog. Truly fascinating.

    • @DarkroomMedia007
      @DarkroomMedia007 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I feel you. I did the same imagining, but if they built another more sophisticated, safe plant, the sadness evaporates. then I imagine the peoples life's been made better because they can get home to their families and not have to toil away in a factory longer hours and come home beat up and tired more. If that in fact is the case if not then you just chalk it up to the factory had asbestos in it and it save a lot of families from getting sick and possibly dying so it's all good in the end.

      I hate to break it to you but there weren't hundreds of people on regular shifts in that place. Not during normal operation anyway. Most likely a skeleton crew except for heavy maintenance periods when contractors and consultants were on site. At least there is less pollution than before thanks to another coal plant being decommissioned.

    so the reason you found clothes at 10:52 is because in most work environments such as this or mechanic shops, is that they are used for rags. We got deliveries of these compacted square bags of worn clothes to be used for anything that needed to be cleaned, wiped up or other uses that a normal paper towel would not do.

    The first control room you were in is where the electrical switching was done. The turbines would have been synchronized to the grid there, and also any transfers of power to and from different parts of the plant would have been switched there. the control room at 19:35 is the control room where the boilers would have been run from. In more modern plants everything is done from one main control room. \this plant is obviously very old. Was nice to see the inside of it! I worked in a coal fired power plant as an operator for 8 years until it was shut down due to environmental regulations. Getting rid of coal seems to be a sign of the times nowadays.

Instead it's sitting in the basement of a powerplant or school slowly being destroyed by moisture. NO FREAKING WAY! THIS PLANT IS IN MY TOWN! WOW, i finally get to see what’s inside it! I’m mind blown that you guys traveled to my town to see this old power plant, hell I remember when it was still operating!
    UPDATE 2/10/21: as of December 2020 they moved forward with disconnecting the grid that’s in front of the plant and gutted the transformers and other major parts, and this grid no longer lights up at night. They moved the wires from the sub station directly to the main tower that carries the wires across the river.
    Across the street they brought in a massive excavator and are currently prepping to strip and probably demolish the few water towers on site.
    Major demolition to this plant may be coming soon but I haven’t seen any official updates yet.

    It's so incredible to think that at one time these factories/powerplants you explore were once filled with people every day. Doing their job. Knowing what they were doing with all that equipment

    Cool videos, but if you don't already do it, you should consider carrying some portable oxygen monitors to watch out for oxygen depleted air that could be trapped in old rooms, tunnels, etc, where proper ventilation doesn't exist anymore. Especially with lots of rusting equipment that eats up oxygen over the years. If you got into that kind of air you wouldn't know it until it was too late. Lots of people die every year on and off the job from accidentally going into oxygen depleted air spaces, and they can accumulate in places you wouldn't always think of.

      Not even close to correct.. if there is air, it is breathable, that is the definition of air... also rust is a result of oxidation, so if there is rust, there is breathable air.. period😅.. to sum it up if there is rust, the air is breathable, as OXYGEN IS REQUIRED FOR RUST TO HAPPEN, if rust ate oxygen then things would stop rusting over time, which is not the case.. nice flex tho😉

    At 11:01 , they're not "clothes". Well technically at one point they were... but it's just literally a bag of rags that consists of old uniforms and various clothing. Industrial companys buy them ,they suck because they're don't absorb anything and are quite useless. Probably left there by contractors that helped in the decommissioning

    • @martinlord5969
      @martinlord5969 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In any conventional power plant, a bag of rags is essential. They mop up oil before it can burn. The steam is hot enough that the pipe transporting it can ignite oil. Better to mop it up than let your power plant go up in flames.
