    Awesome video! What do you use for the spring mechanism? What is that thin piece that flexes?

    • @c4knives
      @c4knives  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Unfortunately I really don’t know what kind it is. It was in some scrap sheet metal in a toolbox I picked up at a flea market. Seemed like it was from some sort of scraper. I just tested different pieces to find something that was stiff but still had some flex and straightened back to true each time.

    Great video. Is the brass liner just aesthetic or is it better to have some sort of liner with a folder?

    • @c4knives
      @c4knives  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I add it for looks and structural integrity. My early ones did not have liners and they’ve held up but I add the liners to make sure they do long term. It puts less stress on the wood.

    Hi love your videos. I’m just starting to make folders myself. A couple of questions please. I noticed you used a corby bolt for the pin and so you could just tighten the down. How about the other pins? Did you peen them or use epoxy? Did you use any epoxy on the knife? Last question, I noticed you don’t have a kick in the blade or a stop pin. What stops the closed blade from dulling when it hits the lock back bar? Thank s very much for all of your videos!

    • @c4knives
      @c4knives  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey, glad you like the videos! For my fixed blades I use epoxy when attaching the scales. So the pins get inserted through that. For my folders I do not use epoxy. I peen the pins. Regarding the kick. On some blades I have more of a kick but I also actually use a raised portion of the lever that compensates (hits the kick/ricasso) so the blade edge never hits the lever.

    Hi. I continue to watch your videos. Looks like you are really doing some great work. Love your channel. I had a question about the worksharp you use in this video. Is that what you are using to grind the secondary bevel (cutting edge)on your knives? This is something I continue to struggle with in my knife making journey. I've tried both stones and my little 1x30, but still struggle with getting a nice clean uniform cutting edge. Wondered if the worksharp or even the ken onion worksharp might help there. Appreciate any wisdom you are willing to share. All the best from TX.

    • @c4knives
      @c4knives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like it. I have the Ken Onion edition. I do find that it’s hard to keep my edge straight toward the ricasso. Probably just needed to practice more. I do recommend putting painters tape or similar on the blade if it’s finished as the dust build up will scratch it easily. I now use this.

    • @c4knives
      @c4knives  ปีที่แล้ว

      @jace Flare The small ones are cut form 1/8” dowels I pick up from Lowes. They come in 3’ lengths. Here are the corby bolts use for the tang and most of my fixed blades I make now. a.co/d/dLpjhf4

      Hacksaw blades can make good spring-stock. I don't know whether they'd work for this project.
