Decades ago a friend did this. He bought large old saw blades (like 36"). Then he would take months drawing blade shapes, with welders chalk. When he had used all the space on a blade, he would pay me for the oxy/acetylene gas I needed to cut out all the shapes. Then spend months making all the knives(daggers/swords). Some years later he gave me one that he had over estimated. I was a few inches taller than he, and this one was too big for him. Holding it while standing, the tip of the blade was dragging on the ground. It was a Philippine "barong", at least 30" long. It didn't actually fit being called a knife or even sword anymore. Just a scary weapon.
Hey man just found your channel ended up binge watching all your videos big fan of your work I am a beginner knife maker my self very limited tools only a angle grinder and hand files would be really cool to see a basic tools knife build! you just got a new subscriber man.
Absolutely love the outcome. Beautiful knife. But I have to admit, I cringed a little when I saw you drill through the blade without clamping it down to the drill press 😁
I've heard tales and fables about mythical creatures that can use superglue without getting it in their fingers, but like unicorns and Bigfoot, I just dont think they actually exist.
That's a weird way of telling people you're a homosexual. Good luck with all that princess. I'm sure all your Fortnite boyfriends are very impressed with you.
Magnifique Monsieur edward. Merci.
Prior to quenching, would you normalize a blade cut from a circular saw blade? Assuming it is some form of tool steel other then that I don't know it's composition? Thanks.
@@edwardknives8692 It depends where you are and how reliable is shipping method, There are many options to receive money as well, It shouldn’t be hard to find out .
@edwardknives8692 do you have any recommendations on what blades I could pick up new in-store to make knives out of? My friend asked me to make him an ulu and I thought that a circular saw blade would be perfect for that
You do not want to use the angle grinder for cutting out the cutting edge side of the blade. Heat from cutting will cause degradation of steel quality in this critical zone.
Why ruin the already awesome temper in the high impact steel? Just keep cool while cutting out. You had might as well just use any plate steel as you are removing the benefits of SAW BLADE!
Question, Ive been wanting to make and sell knives. I don’t have a forge, but Im I can afford some circular saw blades. Is it possible to cut the tempered metal with a jigsaw/handsaw, without ruining the temper?
Du Kamerad, hoffe du bist mir net bös, falls ja drauf geschis......
The knife is beautiful. Especially the work that went into the handle. IDK if I would have the heart to get it dirty!
😊😊😊
Beautiful knife and skills that went into making it. Thank you for letting bus watch you make it.

What kind of matrrial is the white liner?
I've accidentally cut my hands a couple of times before and by just looking at it i can tell thats a Mean edge there

Hello, dear friend. I don't use water because steel is prone to corrosion. In this video I use oil😊
Prior to quenching, would you normalize a blade cut from a circular saw blade? Assuming it is some form of tool steel other then that I don't know it's composition?

Great job
I wanna this knife how to buy it please tell me
Should you hardener sawblades ? Or not ? Difrent schools show different ways
Hi. To begin with, I heated the saw blade to make it softer, and was able to drill it. Then I tempered it again)
😍😍😍👍
Can you make a knife using the teeth of a saw blade would be interesting to see
What type of steel is the BLADE ? O-1 ?
Do you sell these knives internationally ?
I would love to do it, but I do not know how it works))) And I would give out some knives to subscribers for free 😊

Very nice, can you make me one
Any chance you can tell us the dimensions on the blade?
Saya melihat anda heat treatment before you grinder your knife. Apakah panas gerinda tidak membuat baja pisau anda menjadi lunak kembali ?
How can you tell if the sawblade is going to work for a blade and keep an edge? I have no idea how to tell what it's made of other than the teeth.
This steel is pretty good. This is a 9hf tool steel)
@edwardknives8692 do you have any recommendations on what blades I could pick up new in-store to make knives out of? My friend asked me to make him an ulu and I thought that a circular saw blade would be perfect for that
Yes, it will be great👍
the only thing is that it is susceptible to corrosion
@edwardknives8692 that's fine. I have made knives out of 1080 and 1095 steel.
buen trabajo, falto probarlo descuartizando una vaca
Qual valor ?

wow
😊
Why would you want a knife made of something so thin, that's like less than 1/8 on an inch
I was thinking the exact same thing! A fillet knife maybe...
Hardening before grinding? Or just grind it wet and keep the original temper. It would be more interesting if you had studied a little more.
👍

You make too much heat. I have water going on while cutting out.

*Probably the ass backwards knife video I've watched in awhile. There are many ways to make a knife. This is not one of them*
Great video, thank you very much; question...the sharpening that starts at 7:15, what do you use?
Diamond bar for sharpening knives 🙂
