    We are still in "bat mitzvah" season around my house. My daughter already had her's, but there are still a handful of kids in her class that have theirs coming up. And I agree about the invitations. They are so beautiful. My daughter's theme was Wonderland and it ended up coming out so amazing. I was worried about it all because I made all the decorations myself (with my mom). I think the most stressful and the most fun, was shopping for her dress! LOL. And buying her tallit. That was when it really hit me that she's growing up. That was my favorite part of the day, placing it on her and seeing all the photos of her wearing it. I can't wait for the high holy days so she wears it again! LOL.

      I also want to say that that the coolest b'nai mitzvah reception that my daughter went to was at a museum here. It's called the Elliot Museum and its this amazing interactive museum. They cleared out the lobby/entrance area which has all these paper fans all over the entire wall and that's where they served dinner. Everyone got to enjoy the entire museum with private tours and they also had a dj and an illusionist and stuff like that. It was really cool. They totally did it up because it was for boy/girl twins. So it was done totally different than everyone else's so far. It was awesome. I even told the parents that I was envious of their cool location. LOL. So, keep something like that in mind for your lil man. My older son's is in 5 years, and he said that he might want to do it at the planetarium. So, we might look into that as it gets closer to planning time.

    I grew up in an Islamic country, and these countries used to have very bitter ties with jews. as a Christian the only exposure I had to Judaism was the Old Testament in the Holy Bible. But now I have gotten to know more about Jewish culture, I hope I get to learn more about it.

      When does the Torah passing happen? During the service? After it's over? Another time?

    • @JessicaWicks
      @JessicaWicks ปีที่แล้ว

      It occurs when the scroll is removed for the B Mitzvah to chant. Often it is removed by the Rabbi then passed down from the grandparents to parents to our celebrant prior to parading the scroll through the sanctuary.

    My mom also kept all the invitations from my years of attending friends Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. I recently weeded through them and they were INCREDIBLE!!! Your overview was so thoughtful. p.s. Hi!
    This video was so helpful! I’m attending my friends bat mitzvah and I was so stressed on what to wear and what to bring as a gift! I re-read the invitation and it doesn’t specify the reception attire standard! I don’t know what to do?! Please help me I’m not sure what is the “average” attire for the reception or what is to “extra”.
    Much love ❤️,

    First of all this video helped me SO much with the gift portion! My best friend is having her’s in May and she is really nervous/excited. I do have one question though, compared to the dinner/dance part, how fancy should my dress be for the ceremony? This is super helpful for a middle-grade novel I'm working on. Thanks for posting! Could you answer a few questions? How early would someone send the invite? And what day of the week is the celebration usually held since Shabbat is Friday night to Saturday night, which pretty much rules out both days, right? And would some people get invited to the service and party and some just the party? Also is the tallit used for boys and girls and just when reading from the Torah, or during the whole service, or something else. Thanks in advance!

      All children have their bar/bat mitzvah around the age of 13. So, my daughter (she's now 15) had her's before her 13th birthday, so technically she was 12. My son (he's now 9) will have his, most likely, just after his 13th birthday due to holidays and such. My youngest (he's 5) will probably have it within a week or 2 of his birthday. I hope this helps.

    • @MyJewishMommyLife
      @MyJewishMommyLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We pray to God but we face the direction of Jerusalem where the Holy Temple once was, but no we don't pray to the Star of David so it's not really similar to Christianity in that respect.
