  • This video shows how to remove and replace the button snaps on a leather vest. You can change the button style or even add more if you want! By replacing the worn button snaps you can save the cost of a new vest, replacing patches, and paying to have those patches sewn on. Not only that, you won't have to break in a new vest and can prolong the life of the one you've ridden with for so long.

    Thank you for this. I did leatherwork when I was a kid, and am getting back into it. I put a snap on a heavy leather jacket and used the wrong snap set. Now I can go get our drill and replace it correctly!

    Great video, thank you for it. I am a leather smith by trade, and when working on a belt I ended up accidentally put one of the snaps upside down but now thanks to y'all doing this video, I was able to fix that snap.

    If you want to clean up the metal shavings before doing the rest of the work that's probably a good idea. Keeps them from getting stuck in you, or the garment.

    Thank you. I did the drill but it was so nerve wrecking and time consuming. I tried to hammer it out with a bit but was disastrous! I nicked my leather and am mortified. I worked on a high end jacket(Balmain) with new snaps so it must've been either good quality snaps or just brand new snaps. I finally did it with patience and jiggling the drill but it was not easy. I also am having trouble with putting on new snap/rivets. The snaps work but look wonky inside when unsnapped. I am exhausted. What am I doing wrong?

    I got a zip pocket on an old leather jacket where the actual pocket itself has ripped away from the jacket. How would i repair this, as there is no way to get to the back of it as the jacket lining is in the way?

    How do you remove and fix the other side of the snap? I have a purse where it completely popped off.

      You only have to remove the side that is broken if you are replacing it with the same size/style snap to ensure it will fit when snapped together.

    hi Im looking for instructions on putting a vest extender on my mans vest any help would be appreciated I cany find any here yer the closest

      Vest extenders snap on to the snaps that are already on the vest. You don't attach them permanently to the vest normally.

    Hi, can you reuse the snap you removed? I want to use the existing one on the back of my leather jacket and put it on front lapel? thanks

      No, when you remove the button it is usually destroyed.

    Hi can you remove the other part of the snap the same way?
    I just put a snap in on the wrong side.
    The bottom snap is on the inside of the fabric and the flat part is on the outside. 🤦🏾‍♀️
    Can I remove it the same way with a drill?
    I’m sure hoping so, cause I don’t want to have to make this project over again. 🤔

      Yes, in fact, I did the same thing you're talking about.

    Are you saying anvil? Where can I find one of those tiny things?

    • @LetsLearnToSew
      @LetsLearnToSew  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it's a snap anvil but can be used for lots of stuff. The cheapest place is Amazon. Here's a link. amzn.to/3cUC504

    Use pliers never get your fingers near the drill head like that.

    Is it possible to remove snaps without a drill?

    • @LetsLearnToSew
      @LetsLearnToSew  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Angie L I don't know of another way. You have to get that center section to break away. You might be able to break it off with a small chisel but I'm not sure.

    I am replacing the snaps on my cut because the EXACT SAME VEST EXTENDERS you have didn't fit the male ends on the vest.... Imagine that... lol

    I tried this method to remove snaps on a dickies jacket, but unfortunately it did not work. :(

    • @LetsLearnToSew
      @LetsLearnToSew  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry, it usually does regardless of the brand since most snaps are joined the same way.
