I love the fact that House's mother knows who to call to handle House and more the fact that she calls Wilson by his first name as any mother talking to his child's best friend.
Mother House had two sons. The responsible yet noble to a fault Wilson. Then her brilliant but deeply stubborn Gregory.

Wilson tells House's mother that she knows him better than he does, but when House approaches the coffin to "say goodbye", Wilson realizes that this is not the sort of thing House would do and goes to confront him, while his mother believed House's crocodile tears and believed that Wilson was just comforting her son. Wilson really knows House like no one else.
We all believe what we want to believe. His mother wanted him to show respect towards his dead father, wilson wanted to believe he's still the nut he's always been.

It totally wasn't necessary for the scene, but I love that they paid an extra to play dead in the casket in that 2nd viewing room.
Until you realize that wasn't an extra it was a real dead person.

Also I doubt they'd pay an extra for that; it was someone who really wanted to be in a TV show. The time the makeup artist spent on the role was enough of an investment. :P
I always thought they used mannequins and just took a wax mold of the actor's face. The Sopranos had more dead bodies in caskets than any other show I've watched.

Okay, gotta be honest, this is one of the few moments where House is *not* being an ass. They had no right to force him up on that podium to "honor" a man who abused him. What did they expect? They had no right to expect him to be there, and no right to expect him to make up a bunch of nice sounding b.s. about a man who he didn't feel deserved it.
Yeah a lot of people and much of media considers relations to be an immutable connection when those you want in your life should be chosen. Relation does not dictate affection and in this case there wasn’t even a relation.
Now, it's important to note, this is a old comment and you're right about no one having the right to force him like this, but House had never opened up to anyone about the abuse outside of woman who'd been raped in season2 I believe?
Yes, he does try here. But it's very half-hearted and Wilson doesn't believe it here, because House is trying to get out of this.
And they were motivated because they didn't want HOuse to regret not while he had the chance. But Wilson and Cuddy are as bad to House, at least before he drives a car into her living room, as he is to them. But actually, House doesn't gaslight them multiple times.
He lies to them, sure but those two have actually denied his observations of reality and told him he was wrong. Then tried to like give diagnose his emotions that could've given him those 'delusions' or 'this will teach him a lesson;'
I love the show. But good god, Wilson is constantly presented for having a high horse that he lost a long time before the final season.
Honestly, I don't think much of House's mother either. The fact that she puts her feelings over his is a clear sign that she knew the abuse was happening and understood it was wrong, she just didn't care.
John House didn't believe in unconditional love, so he didn't deserve any unconditional love in return. Blythe and Wilson pressuring Greg into giving him that undeserved love was cruel.

My favourite thing about this whole scene (Birthmarks as a whole is my favourite episode of the series) is that House bailed Wilson out of jail because he thought Wilson was the only interesting person in that convention. And when Wilson throws that bottle, House says, "still not boring" which means that he didn't think even after all these years, Wilson was any less boring. I met this guy at a camp with kids with diabetes, at first i thought of him of a childish and a unbearable person. But i liked him, he had a lot in common with me, and then i realiced i fell in love with him. A year later we are a couple

I love how the start of their friendship is due to Wilson being so annoyed at a party that he throws a bottle, misses his target and breaks something.
And the rekindling of their friendship comes from Wilson throwing a bottle at a funeral, missing his target, and breaking something.

Forgiving is not about giving something good to them. It's about giving something good to you. Which is releasing yourself of hatred and that is a feat to accomplish. It can sometimes take a lifetime to do so.
But most importantly, its not about saying "i forgive you so anything you did no longer counts" but its about "i forgive you because you're not gonna make me hate."

Forgiveness is about YOU no longer letting YOURSELF be burdened with the actions of another. It has nothing to do with the worthiness of the other person.
My dad’s side was the same way. They held his funeral on my birthday when I was a kid...not because they were assholes but they just didn’t care. I forgive for me, I left them and my hurt in the past.
Not too long ago I would have seriously judged House’s behavior here… but after watching my husband suffer from what his therapist called, “The worst case of PTSD that she had ever seen,” from horrifying abuse from his father, I totally approve! Lol!

I have a doctor friend, who's biological father was abusive verbally, emotionally and physically. He hated his dad , seeing his bruises and his breakdowns, we also used to cry. We were still teens when we started medicine. As we grew up, became older, the dad was like psychotic narcissistic. My friend went to other countries to practice just to be away from that toxic person. People around judge him being irresponsible son, but like willson only we know the truth.
I need to stop watching these,i seem to forget im not watching an episode just in time to start getting into it right before it cuts out!

He's projecting his own feelings onto Wilson; to me that sounded like his way of saying "I am scared to death I'll lose YOU".

I've watched this series twice but only just realized why House's best friend is Wilson. Wilson by all accounts would be considered an accomplished but otherwise boring person. But above even intelligence House has always respected authenticity. And even though House routinely jokes that Wilson is a "sucker" he also knows that Wilson is true to is character. There is no public reward or praise for trying to improve a spiteful character like House. Despite all House's abuse and with no possible benefit to himself, Wilson always tried to help House.
Ironically or purposefully I think Wilson maybe was a Christ like figure. He often embodied the idea of turning the other cheek and helping someone who couldn't help him and even at time spited him. You could argue that House is secretly bitter and jealous of Wilson throughout the series. Though House is more honest than most, he knows he is motivated by regret and ego and obsession. Wilson is more simple and pure in that he always feels bad for not helping people he maybe could have donbe more for.
I have never gone from teary eyed to burst out laughter as fast as I did at 8:00 😂

I just lost my father and gave a speech at his funeral yesterday. He wasn't perfect, he was an alcoholic, but I said only the best. Because a funeral is a time to remember the good times. I understand House, and why he did what he did.

It's weird to watch this after I learned House's father abused him. It makes the whole fight not to go completely different.
