This is the type of guy to go on a date and only talk about himself. Simple question with the longest (kind of) answer

So you're saying I can waterfowl hunt successfully with and 18.5 in. barrel? Prove it please. It would be a great video and help me purchase my next shotgun. Mossberg 940 Pro Tactical 18.5 in. Or 940 JM PRO Camo 24in. I've never watched a TH-cam video for answers just to be left with more confliction and questions.

In this case I think your decision is less about length and more about features and such. I’ve hunted with tactical shotguns before and while capable, things like dowel rod that doubles as a walking stick are some stuff to take into account.

I just ordered a waterfowl shotgun at 26". I've always shot that length because I like how it swings but now I read that a 28" would of been better choice for some advantages. Should I change my order to a 28"?

So much of shotgun choices come down to patterning of the load. Taking a quick stab, my reaction would be to stick with the 26 and pattern/shoot it for awhile. If your unable to get the pattern or hits you want with a given load you are really dead set on then you can adjust from there. Different choke tubes and after market accessories or options will help address some issues as well.

26 is an already long barrel I couldnt believe that 2 inches more make such a difference if any. velocity wise there is none.

Most hunting shotguns feature a 28" barrel, I personally slightly prefer a 26" one, 'cause I find it a little less cumbersome and with the same efficiency. As a matter of fact it's up to you there's no big difference as long as you d'ont take a home defense barrel lentgh '18 or 20" with which you won't be able to take long waterfowl shots

Longer barrels achieve a tighter spread at longer distances than shorter barrels.

Only up to about 20 yards. After that, little, if any difference

Interesting to watch, but all 3 of my 870s have 28" fixed Modified choke. Two 12ga and a 20ga.............which I use for everything.....Skeet, Trap Doubles, Pheasants, Ducks, Geese, and defense. If before I leave this earthly realm I finally get around to Turkeys, I'll dust off my 30" fixed Full barrel which, BTW, hasn't been fired through since about 1995!
I bust a lot of clays and bring home the meat, so Modified works.
Life on Planet Earth ain't complicated.
If it works, don't fix it.
