My take-away; ultimately, patterning with a 30" diameter target at 40 yards with a specific type of shell and choke for a specific shooter is the best way to understand variation attributable to different chokes and different ammunition for that specific shooter and gun. It would be nice but shotguns pattern different for different shooters as well. Not everyones cheek to eye length and shoulder and neck are the same. So two different shooters might get different point of aim. That's why the best trap guns have adjustable combs. If you find a gun without an adjustable comb that fits and patterns well then you don't need and adjustable comb.

Benelli m1 super 90. 24" barrel extended lite mod. Duck hunt and shoot sporting clays with it. Has no problem touching them at 70yrds. Just gotta know where to put it. Then again I shoot high 80's low 90's in sporting clays. And around 23/25 on skeet.

Yes you can! A tighter choke will increase the pressure behind the pellets and increased pressure results in higher velocity, increased residual energy and greater range.
+timothy banks But how many have you hit in a row? Clay games are about consistency. If you can hit 100 clays in a row in the way you've described then you need to contact someone about a career in shooting.

Okay, well for home defense, in my opinion, I would like to have more than 2 shots before having to reload, but since you want a double barrel or O/U, I would suggest a nice stoeger side by side home defense shot gun. As for an all around gun like for hunting and clay games, I would suggest a Browning Citori O/U. You just have to think to yourself what you will be using the shotgun mostly for! Because you will be limited with the home defense gun.
Prefer a mod or a improved mod for longer shots but it can be done with a LM. I honestly don't see the point in F chokes. Mods and imp mods will touch them just as far.
I have this discussion all the time with my customers I'm a gunsmith and hold a turkey shoot every month just for fun and small prizes but I started it to do my own research I have high dollar shotguns Benelli, berreta, Remington,all those have top of line screw in chokes after market, and before I say this I understand the idea behind screw in supposed to give options for different hunting situations,but I was taught to use what you have, and I do I have a old late 70's early 80's mosseberg clone my dad bought me when I was 8 from a hardware store in Ocala FL it's a coast to coast MASTERMAG 880cc 12 ga pump 30" barrel fixed full choke I'm 45 now this gun has killed countless deer and hogs and dove and ducks and throws a better pattern at 100 yards with buck shot than these $1200 shotguns do at 30 yards I get people bringing in some expensive shotguns to this turkey shoot slash pattern match and non of them can come close to my $58 shotgun with number 4 buck 3" at 50 yards it puts all 41 pellets in a 12" pie tin at 100 yards 27 to 38 pellets the only thing I've seen beat it is my buddies Marlin goose gun with a 36" barrel and fixed full choke shotgun makers have ruined shotguns with making barrels 28" and screw in chokes these new chokes are about 2" compared to the old ones that have about 16" of the barrel that's a choke,the new guns make the barrel a standard size after the forcing cone normally it measures IC or cylinder bore all the way to the end where a 2" choke constricts it the old ones started chokeing after the forcing cone
He didn't say it sped it up. It makes the shot pattern travel farther. For trap you want about a 30 inch pattern. The choke will determine how far from the gun the pattern will be 30 inches wide. If the pattern gets as wide as 40 inches it's possible for all the shot to miss the clay by flying around it even if you're on target. I tend to shoot a bit quick so I use a modified choke. I expect to hit the clay before it gets to 40 yards.

I shoot trap with a 28" full choked Winchester Model 1912. I typically break 20-22 clays a round depending on the weather and the shells I'm using

crosshair if you’re picking between 12 or 19, definitely go 19.. if you have the option to get longer get at LEAST 24

im 14 and just got a benelli supernova with 28'' barrel for duck hunting and trap shooting (it's my first 12 gauge) was it a good choice?
As long as the gun fits you and shoots where you look...then yes it was a good choice!
