  • From the GW2 Gamescom trailer intro, looped for your enjoyment. This is a piano version of Fear Not This Night, and unfortunately could not be included with the physical soundtrack due to the circumstances under which it was provided to ArenaNet. Regardless, I'm counting it as the 79th track of my soundtrack playlist.
    MP3 download (23MB): www.mediafire.c...
This will sound much nicer, especially when listening with headphones, because of TH-cam's encoding which lowers bit rate and slightly distorts the audio.
Music composed by the one and only Jeremy Soule, composer for many memorable games such as Skyrim, Morrowind, Oblivion, Total Annihilation, Secret of Evermore, Supreme Commander, Star Wars KOTOR, Company of Heroes, the original Guild Wars and so many others... this guy remains my biggest inspiration for video game music composition. Can't wait for the official soundtrack!
    From Jeremy Soule --
"For nearly ten years, Guild Wars has been a world and a symphony to me. The heroic and the tragic elements of the saga have brought forth my own inner struggles with harmony, rhythm and melody. With each note, the music has challenged my senses and raised my awareness as a composer to truly live in the moment with the most determined creativity. What is in this soundtrack represents years of development. To you, my dearest fans, I hope that you enjoy this world and this symphony. I am forever grateful for your support and kindness."

camsac i learned it on piano and played it in front of a audience of 200+...hardest music I ever played. If you want to play it the way you hear it here, go very slowly when you're learning, the pacing and feeling of the song are very particular and I got it right after 6 month of playing it unregularely. Playing full force the ending doubled melody still hurts my wrist articulation sometimes. It's a super fun song to learn though, that works great with reverb :D.

god this makes me cry.. think about how far the stories come.. how much the commander has sacrificed. the fallen and lost. the victories long since past and the new fears to come. it makes one both hopeful and miserable. sometimes you can't win the battles. but as long as your still standing. you can live to fight another day. the soldiers of old salute you on your way. thank you for reading this whoever may do so.

I'm a very nostalgic person, and when I hear music like this in games, I am able to ingrain a lot of happy memories inside my head. And these memories only return to me when I hear those same songs again... and what a joy that is!
And Jeremy Soule is absolutely amazing! Oblivion themes still bring back many wonderful memories! And I hope the same will be true for GW2.

      @IkeOld 10 ปีที่แล้ว +14

Jason Chen The persona said indeed one of the best games ever. I disagree and think its actually better then GW1 (although the amount of content should be going up on a faster pace imo). The biggest issue is that many GW1 players expected GW2 to be a modernised version of GW1, it is a totally different game and people had wrong expectations, But it is a very good game.

    • @mathixvw
      @mathixvw 10 ปีที่แล้ว +13

IkeOld I agree with you. GW2 has strong (general gameplay, story, customisation of your character,...) and weak points (the little amount of skills, some monotony in PvE,...), and is not really comparable to GW1. Although the story is the future of GW1, the way you play GW2 is too different to make any comparaison, but Arena succeeded keeping the GW mentality in both games. They're both awesome, and none is best than the other in my opinion, just different, and from a different time (GW1 was created something like 7 years ago, while GW2 is not even 2 yo ^^).

    Standing amongst your fallen comrades.
You, your sword, and a horde of undead orrians.
    And Trahearn.
You make your desparate final stand to save humanity as you know it, but your weapon weighs you down, arms feel like lead as you stave off the endless tide.
Your allies fall around you, hope is dim, yet the line holds firm, fueled by resolve, and hatred. You made an oath.
Fear nothing, not the darkness, not the tide.
Just one more night, lest the demons take you.

Jeremy Soule has made my Elder Scrolls wanderings magical, and awe inspiring. To take on such worlds with such deep and moving music to accompany you was amazing. When I heard this track in Orr after many friends lead me to this beautiful world and rich characters, My heart dropped. I knew it was Soule, I felt a familiar link to it all. And when the credits ran after the battle against Zaitan and I heard the singing of Asja along with his music I lost it. This kind of music is truly the core of emotional response. I still get chills when hearing these songs.

this truly shows how games arent just games these days, not if they want to thrive in the world. They are expressions of art and culture and new medium to deliver some classic forms of beauty and art, in Visual artistic style in old and new fashions, literacy and story telling that lets us live the story, and to this video, a expression of music that most of us might not normally listen to but still, when we do, it takes to a common place together but separate like music should. Masterpiece game

I feel like it was the atmosphere that was the most jarring change from guild wars to guild wars 2. It took me a while to figure it out but listening to this piece, it really evokes a feeling of perseverance through grim sadness with nothing but a distant hope for something better to drive you forward.
This matched perfectly with my expectation as a guild wars 1 fan, since that game had a dark gritty atmosphere. not the darkest, or the grittiest, but it was far from campy. Then Guild Wars 2 comes around and everything is bright, cheesy, and cartoony. I don't mind the watercolor art style. That idea was wonderful, but the execution was too bright. the story, which on paper had the potential to be the darkest story yet in guild wars lore, ended up being executed with too many jokes, too much happiness, and a general lack of fear and struggle against an extinction level threat...

why do people hate Trahearne? I loved him, still do.. only Sylvari I'll ever like along with Kenach...
so he gets credit for leading the pact? yet he continuously says its you doing the hard work, then in the LS it gets underlined by everyone else, I really like him, and I hope he survives Mordremoth.. but if he doesn't, I hope he gets a glorious death, he deserves it.

Brian Huis It's the little things that make us hate Trahearne, like :
When he says "WE did it hero" at the end of Claw Island battle, while he was just sitting here, having a nap and giving almost no orders for all the fight. Should have said "YOU did it guys ! Great job to YOU and my AWSOME commander !!!"
When he knockback your foes EVERYTIME you put an AoE on the ground !
Or my personal favourite, when he completly vanish from the world and you have to restart the instance because you can't go any further without him.
Happens a lot in the chapter juste before Fort Trinity, when you have to kill the Lich.
I mean COME ON Trahearne ! There is a warning message in the middle of your screen when you cross the instance border, why to you move any further ?! :<
Yep, I hate this humain-like tree and all of his kind, except for Magister Sieran of course :p

I do not look at Guild Wars 2 as a Game, I look at it as a new world full of art, life, and passion.
There is no limit to the things that can happen.
There is no limit to what you can do.
There is no limit to the magnificent work that the Arena-net team has put in to this game, and still are.

Nice words man, i think the same. In my honest opinion i think this will be the best game of 2012 and definitively the best mmorpg made to this day . I had the privilege to play the second and last beta sadly i couldnt play the first one and i had the most fun i had in any game in all my gaming years. WvW, personal storyline, all the details, the music etc this game is really something else ArenaNet guys put their heart and soul in this game and the result is pure Epicness.

Dear "Guild wars family" I started playing Guild wars about 4 years ago; I remember as a kid even hearing about a Guild wars game coming out. for me Guild wars has brought life to games in its art, gave everyone a reason to be competitive in gaming, its music inspiring, its community bonding, I've met friends from all over the world, we played, laughed, sung, and yes even cried, OUR WAIT IS OVER here WE ARE,about to play the greatest game of OUR lives ..Guildwars is my life, a new story begins

His music is awesome. You can hear the influence of the elder scrolls in the GW2 music too. It's new and exciting, but with just the right amount of homely nostalgia.

A few years ago when Arena net first talked about Guild Wars 2, i said to my friends and to all the gamer I know that this game was just gonna be awesome and that everyone would play to it. I said that it was gonna be a hugue concurrent for WoW, nobody agreed with me, saying that this game had no single chance to become famous... Today they're all waiting for his release...
    Sorry for the bad English
Love GW2, can't wait any longer

Guild Wars 2 is not just a game. It's art..
The redefining moment of when MMO's become less cookie cutter and let YOU play how you want to play. No more arguing on teamspeak for me who is tanking or healing this time around. I can kick the hell out of what i want because the game allows me too.
No more do i have to sit there and grind repeatedly on the same boring quests.
Guild Wars 2 is simply going to leave a wake through the industry, and give us the quality we deserve!

I remember listening to this music before Guild Wars 2 came out. I was so excited about it, it looked like such a beautiful game (and it is!). I had pretty much no life, and was looking for a video game to suck me in and get me addicted like WoW did before Cataclysm came out. Everyone kept saying that GW2 is gonna be ever better than WoW.
When I finally bought GW2 I was really excited making my first character and exploring the world. I played for a few days, but the game never sucked me in the way WoW did. The art was beautiful but something was just missing. This music makes me sad because it reminds me of something that I'm not sure if I'll ever experience again.
I am at least thankful I did get to experience it, and I'm happy for people who did get into GW2 and had more fun with it that I did.

I know this is long overdue, but I put a link to download a 320kbps mp3 of this extended track in the description. Since it is not available anywhere officially, even on the physical soundtrack, it's almost criminal not to spread the love. Enjoy!

You are correct, from what I hear and see Jeremy Soule has composed both yet 'Epic Struggle' is in a lower key to 'Fear Not This Night'. Also 'Fear Not This Night' has lyrics and a key change plus a few more subtle differences. Similar, but certainly not the same!

(Sorry for all the replies, Damn 500 character limit)
I have been in the computer/tech/gaming community since I was 6-7 years old. And I know what bad games have been like. I have seen the best, and the worst. And I have to say. Guild Wars 2 tops my list. And it has some serious competition. But on that note. I am not judging it as just a game. But everything about it. From the developers, to the community. This game has set a brand new standard. Congrats ArenaNet. You have made us very proud.
