- The last stand of the Porsche Tiger of Ooarai, during the final battle against Kuromorimine :) It took a hell of a beating while defending the only access to the building.

The irony in this scene is, she states "that tanks a failure!" but the Elefant tank destroyers they have are based off that same chassis.

after the Tiger porsche was declared a failure there were several chassis ready for action. so they used the rests from the tiger porsche project and build the Ferdinand tank destroyers
The only succes Ferdinand Porsche had with tanks was the MAUS! If only Hitler gives him a chance to really build maybe his tanks would be much better!
Jeff Hatredcopter The Maus never would have been successful. In head to head combat with other tanks no question it would have kicked ass. But without air cover (which by the time the Maus was built they didn't have) a massive supply chain, and tons of fuel . It would not have been effective. Best way to think of the Maus is like a land based battle ship.
I dont speak for what time it was build, but more the tank it self tank vs tank. Ferdinand has for record a good name because the maus was made to late. So we can beter say Ferdinand was de best porsche tank made kill/death ratr

In real life Porsche's tiger was a massive failure, it is a reference to how bad it was in real life.
There’s something about this scene that is very cool: Ooarai’s titan taking on all of these enemy tanks, not by maneuvering and being clever like its comrades, but by standing toe-to-toe with them and slugging it out. That’s what heavy tanks are made to do.
Problem is they are using it wrong its not meant to be angled unlike the tiger H 1 or the tiger E

Actually, the one in the show is the original Tiger P prototype, VK 4501(P) which would only have 100mm of frontal armor. The one with 200mm thick armor variant is the Panzerbefehlswagen VI(Panzerbefehlswagen is a command tank designation) version. You can tell the difference most easily by seeing how far forward the upper glacis' armor plate extends compared to the hull cheeks. The 200mm one extends noticeably further forward due to the doubled armor thickness. The main thing that helped them survive so long here is their extreme use of angling.
in short this is what world of tanks is like when you're the last tank on your team and are trying to defend your cap

I like how the auto-shop girls know enough about armor to angle the tank to improve their defense. As time went on in the series the school morale really jumped and the girls all became braver in combat.
I have to wonder if the same would have been true if they had taken real losses among their friends.
I still find the tracer fire and lack of injuries from explosions and concussion to be bothersome.
There's in-universe explanations; the shells aren't 'live' in the way we think of. From what I figure they work basically like paintball markers. How it all works is that the tanks are all fitted with sensors that detect the hit and, if the damage is sufficient, will essentially shut down the tank and raise the flag as if it was destroyed. In addition they have plates in the crew compartment (possibly even fire extinguishers) to keep the girls safe from actual injury. There's a couple 'x.5' episodes on Crunchyroll that go into better detail.

Nice I watched this scene at least 4 time and I never paid attention...
It's not really made clear in the anime, but supplemental materials indicate the Tiger P knocked out the two closest tanks first specifically to act as cover against the rest. I dunno if hitting a machine that's already KO'ed counts as friendly fire.

The thing that made this tank a failure is it’s shizzy transmission; since the mechanic girls knew how to keep her purring what they had was now basically a tiger with double the front armor lol.

Panzer P is not a failure.. Ok maybe it is but it is still one of my favs
to be fair the porshe tiger would have been a very reliable tank if the germans hadnt botched manufactering it
+Alcarin There is a story that when the Tiger came out the US got hold of one and took it apart. they couldn't get it back together and get it to run until after the war. They found some POW that were Tiger mechanics and had them put the transmission back together right so it would move again.
They botched it because the engine was horrendous, It would catch fire and have problems constantly, So the Wehrmacht chose the Henshel Tiger instead, Due too it having fewer design flaws, But less armour

Correction to my previous statement: (I just reread the section in the Tiger "Haynes Manual" by Fletcher) They only had trouble with the drive train and ...there was no transmission as it was "petrol-electric drive". (and its predecessor the VK30.01 (P) or the Type 100/Leopard) My bad. That is what helped make the Tiger (P) even more unique than it's companions (and in some ways more similar to the TOG II lol)
I love how out of all the tanks in this anime the Tiger P was the most realistic one of them all.

Everyone talks about the Pravda team tanks' self sacrifice to let Katyusha escape in Das Finale, but this is the goat GuP last stand as far as I'm concerned.
And their sacrifice took 3 Heavy Tanks and yet they only managed to eliminate 3
The First one didn't even get a kill it just stalled

And the KV-2 got One
It's honestly not even a last stand because it was disappointing especially since if they had decided to sacrifice kaytusha they would of still had 3 heavy tanks left being the Is-2 and KV2 both of which counter the Pershing and would of definitely changed the battle later on
I think my favorite part of this is the Tiger(P)'s defiant final shot before succumbing to yet another punishing salvo from the Kuromorimine tanks.

The English dub is a hilarious failure, at least from what I can tell from this scene.
That's not even the half of it. In the episode where Ooarai take on Pravda, the Katyusha scene dub is atrociously bad. The tankers do the Russian war cry, but it is laughably tame in comparison to the original, and they don't sing afterwards. They just stand up through their commander's cupolas menacingly while the Tetris theme song plays in the background. The camera angles are the exact same as the original version, so it's just embarrassing. I dare not even link the clip just to save you the embarrassment.
It was because of copyrights issues in America. Nearly every dubbed GuP downloads has the Katyusha themed song replaced in it, so yes, they sing.

@@richardphilpott1013 lets see, first of all the theme is actually a russian marching tune, but electric. the singing was removed from even the japanese version until they dealt with the copyright. and also, darren that is what's said in the sub version as well.

I'd have liked to see the scene where the Kuromorimine girls are trying to get past to help their commander, but can't get past the disabled Porsche Tiger. They call for a tow truck, but the Oorai girls say "No hurry, take your time!" They knew exactly what they were doing.
The Porsche Tigers only failure was its mechanical reliability with its engine. The simple fact that it's a Tiger gives it the reputation and stamina to survive this stand. There are dozens of events where a single Tiger held dozens of other tanks at bay. My favorite was a story Mark Felton covered about a Tiger One that fought about 30 Russian tanks (T-34s) at once and survived the mauling, able to drive home in the end.

actually it was the command tank that had 200 mm frontal armor however the engine was a superior design as it was first in use after ww2 in todays cars the germans made some mistakes in the design in the engine were these problems solved the tiger P was far superior than the tiger 1 we know today as being smaller and probally much faster

As I understand, the Porsche Tiger was only a failure because its transmission was essentially too advanced for the time. Fully electric with a tendency to spontaneously ignite and therefore making it impractical for combat. Otherwise it was technically a more advanced tank than the Henschell tank that eventually won the contract with speculative performance making it far better. The fact that it survived as long as it did in this scene is not all that unbelievable. On the other hand, the Panther was most definitely the best tank produced by the Germans throughout the war. Being both very good at what it did, reliable, and versatile. There were very few situations in which a Tiger could not have been replaced by a Panther for similar results.
In shorter ranges or when outflanked, the tiger could still hold it’s own. The panther was flat out doomed if you even got slight view of the side. The 88 also had a better effect post-penetration than the panther’s insanely high velocity cannon. Most tank battles eventually developed in to CQB (under 500 meters), where the panther was simply inferior since it was so much more vulnerable when the side showed.
But I will agree overall the panther is far better than the tiger I.

+Vincent Leonardo The front armor is 200 mm but it was labeled a failure due to its unreliable engine and inability to support slopped armor though when fighting something like a sherman 75mm it wouldn't have mattered and its fast reverse speed would have been an effective counter to the shermans "Get behind them" tactics.

Daniel Holmes Daniel Holmes I know this comment is old and I really shouldn’t be commenting because of it.... but German 75mm guns pen over 130 with the PzGr 39 round alone. The PzGr 40 round would definitely make it through this Porsche tiger is the vk4501 which doesn’t have the extra 100mm plate, and even if it did the way it’s angled there’s a part of the hull they could shoot there that only has 80mm of armor that would be facing directly to them anyway.
Imagine if it was the Command version of the 653rd Heavy Tank Destroyer Battalion with the 200mm frontal armor plate, only the KT would probably be able to pen that shit, nothing else.
It is a failure as a runner, not as a fortress.

Given the angle they use, why doesnt the German team just pen the cheeks of the hull? They're only a flat 80mm instead of the angled 100mm front and angled 80mm side.(120mm-140mm effective) Note this variant in the show doesn't have the extra 100mm bolted front plate
