Target Newcomer Multilingual and English Learners

Use hands-on materials of picture and word cards to practice vocabulary in a thematic context with physical sentence frames. Give newcomer students the support and scaffolds they need to practice listening and speaking at the word and then, sentence level. Use the sentence frames to support students’ progress from speaking to writing.
About the Presenter
Brenda Adeva is an educational consultant with Ballard & Tighe, Publishers. She has taught English learners in 5th-12th grade, multi-level classrooms for 15 years. She supports district/school administrators and teachers to implement English language development programs through professional development, incorporating ELL strategies and lesson planning techniques from Ballard & Tighe materials.
