- How do you spot a fake profile on LinkedIn?
Why do people use fake profiles?
They could be operating a scam, or in some cases, genuine businesses are setting up fake 'honeypot' profiles of young attractive people in order to use for lead generation.
Details to look out for:
1. is the person using a generic job title
2. is the photograph very polished looking?
3. is there little detail in their profile?
4. are they using a copy-and-paste style message?
Extra steps to take:
Use google to see if the image is being used elsewhere under a different name

Great video. I get tired of these scammers on Linkedin and I wish linkedin would allow you to verify yourself with ID and other things to prove your real on platform, and allow employers to search and filter by those attributes to dodge the scammers.

So interesting. I always make sure to ask a conversational question when I get a new connection request that looks a bit generic. This helps to rule out the fake from the real.

I knew right away. The person offered to do a free website for me. Here's the problem. I looked at her profile, and the last company she worked for ended in November 2022. That was the last listed job, so what company are you representing? Also, her profile picture looked like a stock photo. I reported the profile and blocked "her".

That's also the reason why I only have 100+ connections which means only a few circle of people whom I really know since college. Some are from my hs and corporate world. The rest seems suspicious coz there's a feature where linkedin make a sneak peak of some of your profile viewers. Some of those credentials included Harvard business school which seems too good to be true if you come to think about it.
I think anyone can enrol in a short course at Harvard and get a certificiate then they add that to LinkedIn - do a little digging if you are wary!

@@LinkwithLouise They are very clever at staying legit and they have a good memory too. It's fun stringing them on untill they want details of my bank account. One of them never asked about any personal details.
