Look for the same song on the Diva tour. She’s wearing black with a purple lining. It’s several years on from this performance and she’s found her groove. It blows this one away. It rivals even that of Tina’s version with Phil Spector - which is the benchmark.
@@toews711 are you trying to say "i don't understand" because the way you said it.. doesn't make sense. My original comment is in reference to a Rolling Stone article that was citing the top singers of all time, and Celine Dion was controversially not on that list whatsoever.
Celine Dion is an Icon. Rolling Stone was just desperately seeking clicks by pulling this stunt for their pointless and laughable list. The world knows she’s one of the greatest singers ever.
They refused to recognise Linda Ronstadt for decades because she didn't play their game, but like Celine she is undoubtedly one of the all time greats.
I come back to this video often for a kick in the ass. Celine gives the ultimate tribute to Tina Turner with a performance for the ages. This is particularly poignant today as we just lost Tina at the age of 83. Tina was proud of this performance and Celine should be proud of this as well. Special note to Paul Shaffer and the band for knocking this out of the park. RIP Tina ..!
Rolling Stone is a corporate publication and nothing like what the Rolling Stone of the 1970s. That's showing them Celine. Thanks for this, Letterman folks.
This song would later go on to be one of Céline's most frequently performed songs. No other performance since quite recaptured the magic of this first here though. I find the Paris 95 performance interesting because she seems somewhere halfway between this and what we got on Falling Into You. My 2nd place for this song is probably the 2007 vegas dvd. It has a different energy than this but really works.. After nearly 9 years of not singing this song (otherwise being a staple in setlists), it sounded really fresh, concentrated, and powerful.
There are two women that nailed this song just as hard as Tina did, and both of them did it on Letterman --Celine Dion and Darlene Love. Hopefully we'll get an official upload of the Darlene version!
Rolling Stone should get their heads out of their asses and re release the list of greatest singers of all time with Celine on top! I am not a Celine Dion fan at all, but this performance was absolutely spectacular! Ok, I'm a fan now!😍🇨🇦
Been listening to this all day. This is definitely the best version she's done. I've seen others in concerts where it's more polished but that detracts from the rawness of this performance. I think this is equally as good, dare I say it, or even better than Tina Turner!? Pure class, what a gift...
Absolutely agree with all you're saying, by far the best version ever. i remember pretty well that night on Letterman when i taped her performance on VHS and watched it over and over, so glad i can enjoy that in HD on YT !
tina turner version is more edgy and more raw. tina's voice has more weight than celine's voice. and the scratchiness of tina's voice adds rawness to the song.
@@darrellcrain3447So many highlights from that Birmingham concert. A favorite of mine. Think Twice,, I Can't Help Falling In Love, her first time performing PQTME at one of her concerts, etc.
I wish she did Alone by Heart during this era, her voice was much stronger she didn't lose her thick sound to achieve higher notes and actually does the distortion and twang well enough for that rock edge. I think rock songs suit her like a glove.
During this era she could not have replicated the high note from the original. Her range she gained after she started thinning it out and adding more of a twang into her mix is what allowed her to actually hit the high note.
I’ll never forget this very moment in 1994. My husband and I in our early 20’s, were watching Letterman & BOOM . . . this newbie to “us”, bowled us over with her powerhouse voice. We’d not yet been acquainted with Celine, but you best believe she hit our radar with this performance, and we were so excited to have a new voice on the scene with such tremendous talent.
Honestly she sang far better than Tina Turner. Any reason for that recording being superior is the benefit of being the first version and the associated nostalgia. But objectively speaking Celine's performance is the musically superior version.
I happened to find this video it's one of my favorite songs by Tina Turner and I love it I wasn't born until 1981 and I love her music since I was a little girl❤
You would change your opinion even more when you discover her 87-94 performances. She was so raw, powerful and fun back then. A very fitting voice for rock I must say, she seems to do grit so well.
She is a class act! Imagine Cheryl Tweedy, Cole, Have a Cheese Sarni, Tweedy try and sing that - without auto tune!? Even with it she wouldn't be fit to lick Celine's boots. Absolutely phenomenal, and she makes it look effortless ...
I rank this performance as one of the all time great singing performances ever on television.
Thanks in no small part to Paul Schaffer's kick-ass arrangement.
Agreed!!
Yes, high energy beat , hard not to get those feet sit still. Lol

@@toews711 I have no idea what you are saying.
Nobody with any sense would cover Tina Turner. Except she did. And killed it! This absolutely destroyed me.
Yes, me too and I'm from Quebec. Same sentiments exactly. I mean... I will now listen to Tina Turner. Cannot reconcile how I love both equally.
I love her shout-out and wink to Tina - such a class act!
Celine is a better singer than Tina Turner
I love Celine Dion's version better than Tina turner. This version is Incredibly powerful.
The greatest live singer there will ever be, she’s just a powerhouse of a talent
Celine Dion is an Icon. Rolling Stone was just desperately seeking clicks by pulling this stunt for their pointless and laughable list. The world knows she’s one of the greatest singers ever.
Rolling Stone is irrelevant and always has been, second only to the NME
You're probably bang on.

She’s got the Elvis vibe here. Amazing!
That’s actually what no autotune sounds like

LOL....Rolling Stone is irrelevant since 90's ----- Pink
It's better than her studio version. Gosh, she is a firecracker 🧨
I like this version of Celine: singing loud and raunchy, and wearing casual clothes and hairstyle.
Amazing that Celine Dion could do justice to this song. A real tribute to Tina Turner.
RIP 🕊 Tina.. Thank you Celine for giving her and the song Justice
Hey, Madge. THIS IS WHAT REAL TALENT LOOKS LIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How are they comparable?
Greatest Female singer of all times!!!
One word: resonance!
This is better than the album performance. Better than the Vegas residency, from what I've seen on TH-cam. She's hungrier here.
I noticed on the album version, she mispronounced a lot of the words too in the song as well.
Gosh, she was a baby. .such an awesome voice always!
Easily the best she ever sounded doing this song.
Paul is so happy playing along with her.
He wishes that he could have been in the studio with Tina Turner and Phil! Me too!
The Best Pop singer of our time.
Very addicted to this video.
This is not a voice it is a force of nature.❤❤😮
Whoa! Celine is an amazing singer!
5 of Dave's "She blew the roof of the dump" awards are given
Damn! Celine rocked that one!
One of the Greatest Pop Diva of all time
Incredible voice! One of the best ever!
Wow, what a voice.
Top class singing from a top class act. A rare thing these days, and then to be honest.
That's 💯% LIVE... the voice is so crisp! 👏

Celine has pipes.
Deserves every accolade.
I'm not a fan of Céline Dion, but I have to admit that this performance was pretty amazing.
Amazing performance.
I remember seeing this when it aired and it was mindblowing!!!
My wife and I waited for the rerun and taped in on cassette - we wore it out. THIS IS THE BEST VERSION EVER RECORDED!
Me too.
Another great Celine performance.... that "you gotta believe me" @ 3:07 seals the deal ....... period!!!
She absolutely nailed everything here.
Legend.😊
Indeed!

It's Tina Turner's song really, but her version might be the most performed one tho
I'd give second place to Birmingham 1995. Not sure if this was maybe uploaded before we got that though.
That was insanely awesome! I can’t imagine being in the audience and having the privilege to see that live. Wow!
There are two women that nailed this song just as hard as Tina did, and both of them did it on Letterman --Celine Dion and Darlene Love.
Hopefully we'll get an official upload of the Darlene version!
I would also say Ann-Margret too, she has song in duet with Tina as an equal
I loved Cyndi Lauper and Tom Jones's version too!
why does so much of this comes out many yrs later...love it...look how young she was..
Another flower of the Quebec barren cold lands... And Dave's got the book on it! lol Take that Rolling Stone Mag! lol
2:49 cheeky Tina mention.
Always so lovely! Get well, Celine! Don't worry about silly RS lists. You have a voice of an Angel.
Wow! 😲 Amazing! 😁 She didn't disappoint with this powerful Tina Turner number! Celine is awesome! 🤗😀

Wonder if she and Tina ever went on together. Probably no speakers could handle the wattage.
Just amazing!!! I hope she's able to live a long life considering her illness. To me, she's the best singer ever! And a wonderful person.❤❤
truly amazing, to pull off a Tina Turner song like this is mind blowing!
Honestly she sang far better than Tina Turner. Any reason for that recording being superior is the benefit of being the first version and the associated nostalgia. But objectively speaking Celine's performance is the musically superior version.
She sings far better than most vocalists you could think of but each are treasured for their own uniqueness and talents
Fière de notre Céline. Talentueuse pas à peu près. 🇨🇦
This version from ten years ago shows a much healthier, more natural and more powerful Celine. Best ever!
10 years ago? This is like 30 years old now. 😮

Easily better lol.

Wow!! The best female vocalist on the planet!!
Heart, soul, passion and sweet. She's awesome.
This changed my opinion of her in under a minute.

She can sing any genere !
Looks like Celine wanted to make a statement about her versatility. And she made it. Definitively.
She looks absolutely beautiful at that age!! Great Version!
