I've had my water dispenser for 4 years and didn't know it had a filter 🙃

It doesn’t have a filter so to speak. It’s more of a “ valve” that allows the water to enter the cooler from the bottle into the tank without too much “ glugging “ too much. The water in the bottle should have been purified but reverse osmosis or distillation ( I prefer reverse osmosis no “ slight metallic “ taste ) boiling water kills bacteria but I’m still not sure about pouring boiling water into the plastic parts of the cooler like the spigots and any lines inside the cooler. Your best bet is to find a food grade hydrogen peroxide and use a couple tablespoons full in a gallon or so of water. Pour it in and open each spigot for about 20 seconds to get the water solution into the lines and the spigot. Let it sit like that for about 15-30 minutes ( clean the other parts in the sink either soap and hot water and rinse ) . Drain the remainder of the water Peroxide solution through each tap ( spigot ) with more time running water out of the cold spigot. Some water coolers have a drain plug or valve on the back. If you have that, drain that as well. You WILL spill some water so don’t do it on hardwood or laminate flooring and have paper towels and an old towel ready. Now fill the tank by pouring cold water maybe a half a gallon or a bit more from your sink in the tank. Let that water seep into the cold and hot tanks. Some coolers have a “ room temperature “ spigot. There’s usually no tank for that, the water comes straight from the bottle. Run each spigot until no more water comes out and drain that drain in the back if you have one. Repeat this step 2 or 3 more times. If your tap water is not “ clean” do one pour and drain with a gallon of purified water. Some people like to use white vinegar a quarter times half a cup with a gallon or gallon and a half of tap water. I find vinegar is harder to get the smell out and or requires more of those “ rinse “ steps. You can also use about 2 teaspoons of bleach in a “ big” gallon of tap water. The food grade hydrogen peroxide is the safest but the bleach is also safe ( most municipal water is chlorinated which is essentially bleach., just do more rinse steps and don’t overdo the bleach, 1/2 teaspoon in a gallon is plenty.after your last rinse and drain use a quality paper towel to wipe down the inside of the water reservoir before putting in the parts you cleaned in the sink earlier back in. Put a fresh bottle of water on and plug the cooler back in and turn on the cold switch and the hot switch if you use that feature a lot. Run each spigot for 10 seconds or so. It should be fine to drink once the cooler has chilled the water but taste test the water the first time. If it still has a slight chlorine or peroxide taste run the spigots until the smell / taste is gone or wait 4-6 hours for the taste/smell to dissipate. Too many people believe the water they use is purified so cleaning the cooler isn’t necessary. If you use your cooler daily it should stay “ clean” for about 6 months. If one bottle lasts you 3 or 4 weeks or more, the water is sitting in the cooler too long so clean it more often. If you fill your bottles yourself at a self serve machine, the bottles should be sanitized every 2 or 3 fills if not every time.

Thanks so much. After only two uses I suddenly had bunch of sandy texture in my water. Only issue is my air filter really couldn't be removed so I just used hot water and avoided the air filter when cleaning. But now I'm really afraid to put a new water tank in it. It was such a chore to drain the whole thing. 😮

You should add a small amount of vinegar with the hot water. It remives any sediments, just like cleaning a coffee maker or an iron.

Are there such dispansers that have the part with filter attached and not removable? I tried to clean my (that is why I was searching for this type of videos) but that white part under the safety cap seems to be connected to pipes, I can't lift it out more than just few cm.

If the air filter is clogged, is it why I can only get a half glass of water and need to wait 15-20 minutes to get more water? My bottle is half full atm and plan to clean it and see if I can fix that problem.
