Hey Tim, I'm the other Tim from Nashville who spoke to you with my wife at the Maesgwyn before the match on Saturday. The Temp Kop wasn't as bad as you would think, with a rain jacket on, but the 15 minute walk back to our hotel was brutal. I think I would have been dryer if I jumped in a swimming pool. Still, we've had a great time, hopefully we'll be back before too long with some better luck on the weather! Again, appreciate these podcasts helping me get my Wrexham fix between matches.
Excellent as ever. Surprised no mention of just WHY we were so bad yesterday. Cannon had to come back in for Rathbone who was very poor at Birmingham but equally he wasn’t fully fit.. Dobson was also a passenger in that match. Same here. Lee doesn’t function unless the other 2 do so we effectively played without a midfield and had no-one winning the ball and setting the tempo. McClean was really poor and we instantly looked far better with a real wing back on the left. Raises an interesting issue we were discussing yesterday. The loss of Tozer and Young means we lost two captains on the pitch. O’Connell only really talks after stuff has gone wrong. Dobson just plays. McClean seems more interested in the opposition and their fans than his own team. Are we now in fact a team without strong leadership in defence and midfield? - Althoigh Marriott and Palmer have been more perspiration than inspiration I’d have stuck with both but equally can’t see any way of getting Mullin match fit beyond minutes on the pitch in L1 games. Can see the argument for Marriott/Palmer or Marriott/Mullin next weekend. Really don’t know which way to call it. - Max - can’t see anything happening. Suspect his actual value is closer to £2/3m but he needs first team football. Not going to get that yet at EPL level and at Championship level he risks joining a club who could easily end up in L1 so it’s not hard to see why he’d stay. - muted atmosphere? - Easy to forget that plenty went to Birmingham who will have needed a day off work to do so. Many can’t afford a big away game and a home game in the same week. Weather forecast of storms from 1pm won’t have helped and nor will the late return of away tickets. Noticeable that the latter clearly wasn’t THE issue as there were empty seats in the Tech End, Wrexham Lager and Fourth Wall. Easy to forget though that we sold less than 600 less than capacity. Largely thought the atmosphere was simply that we found ourselves both playing badly and up against an astonishingly good Crawley team given he’s built them from scratch again. They bossed the game from start to end and had they not missed the two sitters we’d have rightly lost. The “atmosphere” was tension. A thing we’ve far too easily forgotten. Very pleased there were tickets available. Had a lovely journey from and back to Manchester with 8 Australians from Newcastle, NSW who had come to our match without tickets. They got in and really enjoyed it. They’re off to Celtic today, Liverpool Wednesday and Tonbridge Angels. Leading a team of under 18s on a UK tour. Lovely people. - standing - good points well made. If I wanted to go in the Tech End I would expect to stand. You’re also not really going to stop leaping in any stand when goals go in but there is an issue where there’s a period of prolonged tension when people stand to see and lots of fans simply can’t. Wholly agree with standing at away games but, and I’ve noted this before, there’s an increasing and serious issue with Wrexham fans and accessible seating away from home. I had to be let through a metal gate at Birmingham to the accessible seating area. Fans seeing seats around me disregard the gate and the signage and scramble into that area for seats because they’re available. They then stand all game forcing me to stand. The guy on a crutch in the same row as me simply saw nothing. The family in the front row who want their young daughter to have a view she won’t have further back where it’s all standing? Well I understand why they encroached and nabbed the front row but to then stand as well… I’m afraid if you’ve got a long term health condition or a disability then you shouldn’t have to ask anyone to sit down, especially if they shouldn’t be in accessible or seating areas anyway, but most likely you’re not going to ask either because asking people to accommodate you is what your daily life is like and it’s exhausting and depressing. Asking in the heightened atmosphere of a match is also a non-starter. Idiots who’ve had a drink or who see away games as a “sit where you want” free for all simply don’t listen to polite requests at matches.
Only disagree Mullin / Marriot together. Palmer has become the header winner. Jack not as good a header winner. Mullin will take 3 more weeks to get into goal scoring shape, then go get his 25 goals.
@@ccy8379 I’m not convinced Marriott/Mullin will be a thing either but as a way of getting the latter fit it may have to be. Mullin/Fletch doesn’t really work and Faal… well who knows.
@mikehughescq Faal is a good year away, probably 2. Then Ollie may move aside, doubtful though. Fletcher needs to start Tuesday at Stevenage and Huddersfield, then Faal vs Wolves. My 2 cents
Looking at the weeks ahead, the striker situation solves itself: Start Marriot/Mullin Saturday & the other one Tuesday. Whoever plays better gets the nod the following Saturday whoever plays worse gets the Mickey Mouse Trophy Tuesday game
The standing up thing needs to stop. I m a wxm supporter. Cant get to a game coz ive given up trying to get a ticket. However i went to see the 80,s group Madness back in January in the MS Arena in Liverpool. As soon as the support band came on ( Lightining Seeds) a couple seated in front of me decided to stand up and dance. I told them i could not see. They did not give a hoot. The whole gig. Told the security. They did nothing. Wanted to see madness since i was a child. So standing up in a seated arena does not work. But if there is a goal or a near miss i get that Thanks for a great podcast and a heads up for the Wxm womens match next sunday. Im gunna try get there.
The big miss was because after going past Okonkwo he saw McClean running back to the goal line so he had to change from being set up for a side footed pass in along the ground to instead having to lift the ball and he was off balance.
Regarding Max, IMO, it's in both Max's intererest and the club's interest for him to stay, unless the offer is bonkers. Max is getting playing time, and the club is likely to achieve the Championship in the next couple years. Furthermore, Max isn't just playing, he's STARTING, and Parky trusts him to carry the ball. His usage rate on this team is much higher than it likely would be somewhere else. And, he's scoring goals. Keep him, if there is a need to sell him in a few years, he'll be worth much more. But, if they do sell him, I'd like to see Wrexham hire a full time scout in Japan. That amazing midfielder from Birmingham, came over for about 1 million quid. That's a heckuva player! The Japanese economy is currently cratered, and the league is a higher quality than League One. For a team like Wrexham, it's a buyer's market!
One thing I will add from the match Saturday is that - if it wasn't for the tech end, the atmosphere would've been none existent. When the lads are in the trenches or not fully firing on all cylinders, we should be backing them, not criticising. Too many over the top criticisms/mumurs throughout the 2nd half (esp where I was sat). Quiet fans are quick to pipe up when things aren't going right! 🙄 Scrappy win, happy for Max, on to the next one...
I'm not sure any of you are aware, but the attendance was affected by the Fan Zone. Its just not selling out untill Wednesday/Thu before the game, so the ballot tickets never get sold. So they become available on Thursday. The whole fanzone needs a rethink.
May well have been “affected” but there were bigger gaps in the Lager stand because of returned Crawley tickets and clearly visible empty seats in the Tech End. Notably a small block behind the accessible seating area and to the right as you look from the Macron. Haven’t been gaps in the Fourth Wall until now so can’t imagine the Fan Zone had much if anything to do with it as if that were the case it would surely have impacted other matches unless I’m missing something obvious.
Friend of mine has pointed out that in terms of atmosphere Saturday was the highest number of Wrexham fans in attendance all season. Rather undermines the stay aways argument. The quiet was most likely just tension at a closely fought match. Have seen many berate fans for a “lack” of atmosphere. I find that confusing. It wasn’t a lack it was just a different kind of atmopsphere.
It was drizzling steadily for a while before those last few minutes but then the first flash of lightning opened the heavens. Trying to exit the centre of the Mold Road stand post match where we’re quite far back and usually well protected. All of a sudden it was lashing into the stand itself. By the time we get to the concourse it’s usually half empty but this time it was a battle to get out as so many just stood looking out and opting to wait it out for a few minutes. I’d no choice but to head out for the 5:20pm train but the paths right outside had flooded; Mold Road had flooded, Crispin Lane end had flooded and the bridge was even worse. Using a white cane I was effectively carrying a lightning conductor so I had to put it in the rucksack and use my companion to get me to the station. By the time we’d got to General we were soaked from head to toe but in those 3 minutes the storm was effectively over. Biblical but brief then. Have to agree with Tim though. Macc. away in the snow was in many ways far worse. Sat on the touch line at the start of the second half with snow blowing right into our faces. Unable to see clearly to the other side of the pitch and frequently unable to see our own feet.
Stand or stay seated. This is a non-issue. The safety and standards board that polices fire and safety has told the club, either this gets under control or they'll control it. That means less seats available and less seats sold. The club needs the revenue to sustain its business. If you can't sit your a** down in designated areas except when there is a cheering moment, buy a ticket elsewhere.
Mullin played a quite effective 20+ at Birmingham. That might lead many to conclude the case for his return was rock solid. Over 71 against Crawley we saw something else. He chased back deep once; had one attempt from an admittedly poor McClean “cross” which he made a bizarre mess of (where a fit Mullin would have fashioned “something”) and was generally walking around where normally he’d jog or run. He’s clearly fit but not match fit.
There was no chance marriot would have scored than Mullin didn’t. He has to get pitch time. Marriott is not on level with Mullin. You give Mullin pitch time or sell him. He won’t be better without the minutes.
Not for Lee. I’m not Lee’s greatest fan but he’s arguably been more consistent than last season and been held back by what’s around him. Dobson has put in multiple 45 minute appearances, accompanied by repeated Jay Harris levels of tackling stupidity and then 2 consecutive zero minutes performances. Revan or Mendy on the left (both actual wing backs) and McClean in the middle for Dobson.
I have been loving Andrew on the pod, so happy he joined and I love the organization and structure of it all since he joined . Another great podcast!

Better an ugly win than a beautiful loss!

Another great episode! My favorite was the pup and squeaky toy! ❤

Club released upper away end to members only first, which imo what affected the attendance. Should've gone straight on general sale
Apologies for Tim's WiFi connection!! Blame the weather....
Probably with BT!

I was on the kop with my grandson, last 5 minutes totally soaked, never been to a game like this before
Take your pleasure Andy, you earned it.
Why not start with M&M as Ollie doesn't really win headers very often, and also we play so much better when we play the ball on the floor.
Coach & Horses doesn't allow away fans

Weather looked biblical for end end of Crawley game. Was it as bad as it looked on TV?

FID goes 80s Windies cricket with a four prong pace attack ... though more a late 80s version where one prong has to retire early.
Accrington away last season, open end piss wet through and the home fans relishing our misfortune
Yeah, wasn’t great. I was recovering from pneumonia too and a lot of our fans were being arses. Macc away was still worse :)

You can't complain if you are benched for a game when there are two games per week.
Just a team for a different approach okonkwo Barnett cleworth o'Connell McLean cannon Dobson Lee Mullins palmer Marriott what do think
I’m blocked by Matt le Tiss & Peter Shilton. Not for anything football related though. 😀
It could be Mullin looks sharper in training…
Mullin played a quite effective 20+ at Birmingham. That might lead many to conclude the case for his return was rock solid. Over 71 against Crawley we saw something else. Go and watch cardiff v Derby from last week, worst ever miss undoubtedly
Angela rayner blocked me
Am i the winner??
Andy Gil-peen!
Revan in, McClean for Lee in midfield
Not for Lee. I’m not Lee’s greatest fan but he’s arguably been more consistent than last season and been held back by what’s around him. Dobson has put in multiple 45 minute appearances, accompanied by repeated Jay Harris levels of tackling stupidity and then 2 consecutive zero minutes performances. Revan or Mendy on the left (both actual wing backs) and McClean in the middle for Dobson.
