I understand the feeling of being responsible for someone's life. Based on your story I think it is ridiculous that you have to take care of the whole ward while your partner get to 'chill' in the OT. You were just in your 2nd posting. No one can be that detailed, oriented and alert in that situation. Not to mention it was your double night shift. Damn! That was a very painful experience. Some people are just unlucky like that, that they frequently get bad experience like that. While there are people that don't even get that kind of experience. I feel bad for you because the nurses didn't informed you about the vitals. From my experience, I've never been done dirty like that. I was kind of 'jonah' but never in my experience that nurses don't let me know if there are patients needs to be attended ASAP. Sounds like a very toxic working environment. Hope you are healing mentally because I know for sure that kind of experience can haunt you for a very long time.

Learning from my experience in the medical field, it became clear that not everyone is suited for this profession. As Norman Vincent Peale aptly stated, you must be prepared beyond 120%. Reflecting on my time as a house officer in a Malaysian government hospital, I remember that there were only two of us responsible for the pediatric ward, which comprised four units, including the neonatal unit. This didn't even account for being on standby for challenging newborn deliveries in the Obstetrics department. Words can hardly capture how demanding those days were. However, I viewed it as my source of inspiration, and now, I find myself on the path to becoming a neurologist, undergoing training in neuromuscular disorders in the United Kingdom.

Christal, I feel you and I am so sorry you had to go through what you have gone through. But I question the system that made the doctors undergo such a nightmarish working life. Any individual (including doctors) needs to be healthy, energized and mentally fit to serve others to the best one can.
I also salute your courage to listen to your heart and take bold but right action.

Thank you so much for your kind words, Yuva. I really appreciate it 🙏🏻 Yes you’re right, it’s very unfortunate how our healthcare system is.

U have to overthink. As a final year medical student, medicine is hard I might say. Not because of learning. The learning is fun but going through the process, the environment itself is very challenging and u need to be prepare to sacrifice your future not like normal people. I know I'm just a student but the task, workload already overwhelming. After graduate later, responsibility add to those burden we felt, society expectation and all

You ABSOLUTELY MUST THINK WELL. Medicine is not a walk in the park.

I advise you not to. I'm a doctor and planning to quit my housemanship soon. Just few months into this and I find this country being very ridiculous towards doctors.
Choose some other career, they pay well too.

@@KuronoKei-jv2zi i totally agree with you. Here, housemans are treated like 'dogs'

@@shathisvengadasalam1708 I think even dogs are treated better brother. Ridiculous amount of working hours for a petty rm4k, then tons of specialists who will easily pick on you, insulting infront of patients, their family's, staff nurse.
What for? Some say becoming MO life would become easier but that's not true at all. They are busting their axxes off and getting exhausted too.
If any of you still have a choice whether to be in this field or not, please stay away from this job.
Don't waste your time, immediately find other courses. I suggest to choose pharmacy, almost same pay but better compared with doctors.
      Dentists good too.
In future private hospital and clinic will be saturated with doctors too.
Once the corporate companies know the demand they will reduce the salary of doctors in private hospital or clinics. This is not a good field at all. Be wise in choosing. An advise from a diligent soon to quit houseman who is having no life in medical.
