Hey there! I know this was a couple years ago, but I hope you get to see it
I am so proud of the eyes you took
I know you know the benefits but they are going to be even more far reaching than you can imagine
I have had MS for 25 years, since 16 and if I wouldn’t have spent half my life eating crap, and even now a little to much probably, I would not have felt like I did and it there isn’t anything you can do to reduce inflammation more (maybe Ice baths, 😜. Which by the way wad the absolute life changer I discovered a couple years ago. Research it. I recommend starting cold water therapy. There isn’t anything that will give you the energy alone that it will.)
But with food, I have been through enough to know it 100% correlates to the quality of life, and our mobility as MS progresses. Congrats and I pray you are sticking to it.!

@@OnceAnEerAlwaysAnEer I can't tell you how grateful I am for you
Thank you for sharing and taking the time
      To give advice
And I will definitely look up ice cold baths and it's benefits
It has been two years and I am learning even more
I found that the fight is more linked to maintaining than anything else especially when things are going good for so long
      Even though I'm maintaining overall
May I ask what stage are you in your journey?

Not only is shopping the perimeter of my supermarket great for fresh/whole produce buys, it is also a great energy saver. That is, I'm not dragging my feet up the isles. Also, carrying my own bag or basket ensures I only pick up what I can carry and need -essentials-. No room for soda and cartons of juice if buying fresh fruit and veg!!🍎🍎

Your diet recommendations are wonderful for everyone to be more healthy and I really hope can help those with MS. I eat that way now with a vegan whole food plant based (wfpb), almost SOS diet.
My wife is just starting now with whole food, no sugar, no dairy. She sees her first neurologist on Tuesday, still suffering from a trigeminal neuralgia attack that she thought was a sinus infection, but an mri found lesions. From watching many of your videos, I'm guessing it's MS...

Thank you. My question is why aren’t other MS neurologists talking about nutrition to their MS patients? I’m learning so much through your videos but I’m also feeling angry toward my MS specialist who only see me 1-2x year for 20 mins, wherein he reviews the annual MRI to make sure the DMD is working, and then pushing pills to counteract current symptoms. Not once in 13 years was nutrition discussed. Pathetic.

I have always eaten pretty clean, but i ate to much carbs (bread, potato, Rice and pasta) (as the Norweigian does) from january i decided to cut out all of that pluss sugar, i know eat Just vegetables, meats, fish and dairy like heavy cream and cheese (cottage cheese), nuts and beans
The transformition is Great, my stomac is better, i feel less bloated, and my fatigue is waaaayyyyy better 💪💪
And it has a Nice sideeffect : weightloss and better sleep, and less pain🤩
IT takes some research to find recipies and substitutes for your fauvorite dishes, but it is very duable when you have decided.

I have had ms for over 34 years. I work out two hours a day (weights) have 2 herniated discs in my lumbar spine and my right hip was broken requiring surgery,( It is now full of arthritis). I was a d1 football player as a youth and have done more things than I can even believe. I still work at a physical job and am very active. This is only possible because I did cut out most of the crap ( I do sometimes have a donut) and eat a lot of protein and fruits and vegetables. The Dr is right about this I am now 64!!

Great video! We recently went to Jamaica and had nothing but "real food" for a week, and I felt much better! (Of course, the weather helped too!) I rarely drink soda, but I am a sucker for Cranberry juice - the no added sugar kind (there's still quite a bit of sugar in it.) So, I have been mixing a little Cranberry juice with an essential oil/wolf berry drink (Ningxia Red) and lots of water - no added sugars, nice and sweet, I feel better on days I drink it, and has helped me cut back on drinking straight-up juice!
Loved the outtakes at the end!

I was eating pretty clean for quite a long time, and then Covid hit. We took off in our camper van during the furlough from work and I was less careful about my food. Still eating good buy American standards, but not as good as I was. I was diagnosed last June, the symptoms started the end of March/early April. As soon as I was diagnosed I went completely clean. No processed sugars, no gluten, no dairy, and I read labels like crazy to make sure there’s nothing bad added. I try not to eat things that have a label, but that doesn’t always work. I have also greatly reduced alcoholic drinks, I don’t think I’ve had one in a month.
I have added supplements as well. I am basically following the Wahls protocol and intermittent fasting.
My symptoms started improving before I started Ocrevus, but it’s hard to say how much diet has to do with everything. I had, what my neurologist called, a miraculous lessening of the lesion on my C-spine. I am not sure when my next MRI will be. I do attribute some of it to prayers.
I feel very certain that following a clean diet and taking care of your gut can make all the difference in the world. Sometimes I struggle because I want some thing and I can’t figure out what it is, however I see no reason to fall off the wagon.
I think the next step is to eliminate the chemicals and crap that I put on or in my body other than food. Meaning, most toothpaste have stuff in them that are just as bad as some of the food you speak of. Lotions, shampoos, and other things that we put on our body are also bad and get absorbed.
It should not be this hard to be healthy, but unfortunately the conveniences of this world have led to this.
I really appreciate your channel, I am seriously considering making an appointment to consult with you. I will admit that you are a bit more pro-drug than I am, however I like a lot of what you say and do. I think we are both about the whole body approach.

I appreciate you creating awareness around this. I've made major changes in my diet over the last 6 years and have lost over 100 lbs. It has made significant changes in my energy levels and has put me in a better position to fight this illness. Nutrition is no cure for illness but when we think in terms of "food is fuel" we begin to see things more clearly and better understand. It's a shame how little some people know about nutrition, thanks for giving them a helpful resource. You rock Dr. B

Yes, that's the kind of diet that I've practiced for years. I generally avoid snacks like snickers (and I'm allergic to peanuts), I find them too sweet, I usually eat traditionally cooked food, I don't drink bubble tea for years, rarely drink soda, not even Starbucks (I have my own coffee maker) and I try to eat a lot of greens like broccoli or spinach. Fruits are a must, at least once a week! Whole foods do keep me satiated (though I eat small portions, many times a day). Thanks for sharing this! My students would benefit for this month's theme of health.

Now since MS is much worse and I so fatigue I've gained more weight again but can't loose it. My eating habits are not bad according to dietitian/nutritionists I was sent to. I dislike taste of sugar, don't drink pop or juice. I drink water or tea w/1% milk. And I chew ice chips from dry mouth. I have bad water retention and take lasix. But diet and intake is good. Dr. Boster, I totally agree with you, I've never in my life eaten fast food junk, only eaten as you call it, REAL FOOD, growing salads & veg too, I only drink still mineral water, nothing with fizz. I thought I was odd, people passed judgement because I've always eaten real food. When I was younger I caught my own fish from the sea, gave loads to the villagers for their supper. I'd have the mackerel & Pollock caught on the day & would fillet, clean them out (throwing inners to the seagulls) before directing the curragh home, those were the good oul' days, so young such. Great memories.
    Thank you Dr.

Water, H2O, di hydrogen monoxide, my favorite drink, except teas. Herbal teas, black teas, green teas, using honey and evaporated milk as garnish. Then there’s pumpkin seeds (low sodium), pecans, hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts, piñon nuts... After that I grow and can/preserve a great deal of our own vegetables, so I know exactly what DIDN’T get put in. We use lots of herbs and spices to flavor our food so we don’t eat so much sodium. And I try to make it a practice to always be just a little bit hungry. We aren’t producing our own meat much, yet. But we’re looking at getting some more chickens and possibly rabbits, maybe a meat goat. When I grow up I wanna grow my own fish to feed a hydroponic garden but, at 62, there’s no rush, lol! I have time.

Since my diagnosis I have seen a lot of websites and even some documentaries on how eating gluten and dairy are one of the triggers of a leaky gut and then auto-immune diseases. Not scientifically proven and I don't follow this idea but I just see that this topic is very trendy within people with autoimmune diseases.

I do exactly as you suggested. Clean food no processed foods or sugar. I drink just water, herbal teas or perrier. I eat raw or roasted unsalted nuts and fruit when I need a snack type food. My heart rate dropped by 30 + beats a min, my BP dropped and no longer need pills. Eating processed foods like bread, donuts, candy etc for example is like an addictive drug in my body...when eating them all I can do is think about eating them day and night. I wake up thinking about them, getting up multiple times after I go to bed to eat cereal etc.. When eating clean this is eliminated. Every so often I'm at a family function or something and I allow myself to eat some processed foods and boom I'm back to the horrible cravings. It takes a few days but as long as I stay away from them the cravings go away. I haven't noticed any changes in my MS symptoms over the years but it is sooooo much easier to cope with them. And over all my body feels so much better. The last thing I need is to be taking more medication for conditions I could avoid by eating right. For those like me that have a family to feed and more bad days then good you can get fast food from your grocery store like fresh cut up veg and fruit and fresh made salads. My store even cuts up veggies ready to roast or put on the bbq etc Thank you much for this video and reaffirming this way of eating. And thank you for all the amazing videos you do.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

In the last eight months I've been having some exacerbations of my symptoms and I am doing research and finding that I've been using too much coconut oil (saturated fat/neuroinflammatory) and plant-based buttery spreads (also neuroinflammatory).
So swank diet, yes. but make sure you are going low saturated fat, not low fat

I recently had my first flare up of MS symptoms a month ago. I have a history of bad eating habits but after thanksgiving last year I stopped eating sugar and snack food. Then I began to lower my carb intake. My symptoms happened suddenly after I made these changes. Four days ago I started only eating meat. I didn’t want to wait to do something and the medical industry is forcing me to wait for two months and more for appointments. I’m the meantime, I couldn’t work, was not thinking properly and driving was scary. I can already see a huge difference in my cognitive ability. Before, when typing on my phone I would frequently need to retype and that has drastically improved. The numbness down my right side has improved drastically. I hope I can add other foods eventually, but I’m thankful I will be able to keep my job and buy food.

I really, and I mean really, struggle to give up the soda. As a teen and in my early 20s I drank 3-4 Mt Dews a day. Plus fast food. I have eliminated processed sugar but still love Zero Sugar Mt Dew. It’s been a slow process getting unaddicted.

    Super Tips Dr
I use Honey for sweetening - Hope its OK
My Dr, when asked about artificial sweeteners like 'Equal' said - no studies are there to say it harms, but please try to avoid it. I just have sweetener for just 1 coffee a day
Snack ideas - Rice puff mixed with roasted peanuts is awesome - I have one for evening snack
Drinking plenty of water helps to have less cravings
Thnks once again, lastly COST - All healhy natural food are costly - Not that it matters much, but saying...

Hi Dr B. In swank diet, sugar is allowed I think. What do you think about this?

    • @ldjt6184
      @ldjt6184 5 ปีที่แล้ว

springfield The fact that the Swank diet is lower in fat makes the sugar way mess damaging. The worst possible food combination for ms is the combination is fat + sugar. On low fat diets, sugar is less damaging and less inflammatory. On moderate/high fat diets, sugar will do you in. Swank's research on how certain fatty acids affect the progression of ms is fascinating.

I've been on the Swank Diet for over 2 years - no meds. I try not to eat sugar, but it is in just about everything ! I think the fact that Dr. Swank followed patients who were on his protocol for 37 years makes it a good diet. He documents that those who cheated a lot didn't do well, and those who strictly adhered to it did much better.

What happens when I have to go to a cookout or party with family and friends who don’t care about their diets? No one I know seems to care. I have a fast metabolism and have a BMI of 19.5. People don’t understand why I care what I’m eating and I worry they think I’m a little nuts.

Hello Dr. B, I am newly diagnosed with MS (this January) with Optic Neuritis in My Right Eye and not other symptoms but doctor found few (3-5) Non enhancing lesions in my MRI and also 10 Oligoclonal Bands in CSF, so I changed my life style because after doing a lot of research on Internet the most important fact I found that how early you start treatment of MS and do your life changes the better you can keep this disease under control (no food can cure this disease completely) so I am now not drinking any kind of soft drink and not eating Possessed food, fast food and Red Meat, Now I do 1 hour of Yoga and Pranayama in morning (empty stomach) after that I drink one cup of green tea and take some fruit and nuts in lunch and dinner I usually eat everything as before but reduce amount of Sugar, Salt and Spices (in India we eat very spicy food) and in Night I drink one glass of Turmeric Milk and as for now I am feeling great any advise for me or how is my food plans now in last thanks for these great videos.

I'm sure I've read somewhere about carbonated drinks being bad for you? I'm not talking about the sugar, only the bubbles. What do you think? Also, do you think one pigout session with a bag of lollies could worsen things for the next week or more?

I appreciate this video. However, my intestines are so shut down, they believe from spine lesions. Vegetables make me feel like I’m dying, I will be doubled over begging God for mercy if I eat them, even cooked. Fruits make me have horrific heart burn and aching. I could easily be a vegetarian bc I love them. What can I do, I take tons of laxative (GI prescribed) and can barely go. They are talking about a colostomy bag. Do you have any advice?

I was diagnosed 14 years ago. For a long time, I was doing really good at staying away from foods with MSG and other crap such as Doritos until one day I fell off the wagon. Lately, when I go down the chips aisle, they fall into my shopping cart. I'm now starting to make a new push and kick them back out of my diet. I have been good with cutting out soda or where I'm from, pop. I'm hitting the weight room on a regular basis. I find the weight increasing also in my legs but It's not improving my walking. Do I need to kick out the protein powder such as Syntha6?

I’m completing a healthy living course tomorrow evening. This was a one time per week, nine week course offered to the community, for a nominal charge and led by a RD. I went in open-minded, yet thought I wasn’t going to learn anything new. I WAS WRONG!
Best takeaway from the class is the whole protein of the egg is absorbed by the human body. 100% of it! No other food source matches in absorption rate. Have the whole egg folks. It’s good for you.
The final class will be discussing medical diseases and how food can help., sometimes even being able to eliminate pharmaceutical medications. The RD knows I have MS and knows food will not help me in removing my DMT, but healthy nutrition can impact my quality of life. This course helped broaden my nutritional thinking and was worth my time/financial investment. 😃

Yes, eat the whole egg! The protein of the whites is great, but the most nutrition of an egg is really the yolk.

I tried a few different diets but none were near close to give my body what my body is used to, yeah some foods I know are not the best at all but certain foods are what your body is used to so like me all my life I been eating all kinds of meats you name I had it and yeah as much as it sounds kinda weird not much replaces the proteins on beef or chicken or the other good stuff on fishes I read not long ago that to replace the protein of a piece of steak I would have to eat like 10 fruits I was like yeah right I hardly have that amount a week so a day sure yeah right....same goes for sugar I was comparing the natural sugar on fruits compared to a chocolate bar and it was no comparison at all and a lot of times a strong boost of sugar is what kicks hard on me.... lately I been replacing sweets more for a cold coffee which it works very good but the cold coffee still haves some sugar not as much as a chocolate bar but hey I'm trying

I haven't been on soda for years, no regrets. Honey in coffee. But I still have a sweet tooth. For real, I'm sure my sugar surge for new years set off one mother of a flareup. I think I'm over sugar. No amount of sweets is worth not having a functioning left side. I can't walk, it sucks. Sugar is officially out.
