“It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going, because they were holding on to something. That there is some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for.”

Samwise gamgee is a true hero and helped frodo through this journey. Bilbo had gone on an adventure and had more than help. Frodo had the same as bilbo but it was all in one person. And that person was sam and not just sam he was sam the brave. Sam saved frodo many times. From shelob, gollum and offered to fight for frodo when they had first met aragorn in the prancing pony. Thank God that he was ease dropping.

I think my favourite quote is by Faramir: “I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.”
I think it's quite sad it's not in the films. Tolkien once said that he mostly resembles the character of Faramir, so I can't help but feel it has a deeper meaning on a meta level :)

    10. For Frodo. (Aragorn to his troops at the black gate)
    9. Ischa qui I darugnul! [I spit on your grave!] (Gimli to Haldir)

It’s a brilliant inclusion in the film. That scene, more than any other, is evidence that Sméagol still had some glimmer of goodness in him. Even those who we see as beyond repair - beyond help - have a hope of making something of themselves. Ultimately, Sméagol gives way to greed, and it is his own undoing. Ironically, it is Frodo’s greed that enables this. I think Sam’s presence at Mount Doom - him carrying Frodo up the mountain, pushing for Good - is a symbol for the fact that sometimes all we need to tip the scales in the world is to influence positivity and hope for Good will triumph over evil.

I think what Gandalf says to Frodo in Moria is really insightful and demonstrates a lot of the ideals Tolkein held. Middle Earth was really an attempt to recreate the myths and legends that the west/English common law lost during the dark ages. Quite a noble task, if you ask me that would crush most of those that attempted it. Values, faith and morality drip from this story.

Idk how this series of film adaptations went from so amazing 20 years ago, to utter shite when technology, CGI, practical effects, etc. should be *better*
All I can think is that when Peter Jackson made the first trilogy, he truly encouraged a great deal of “method acting”/using live, costumed stuntmen as orcs, where fighting with (granted, dull) but still strong and heavy metal blades, in suits of actual armor/chainmail to protect them from the blows.
This got pretty extreme in some sequences, like near the end of the fellowship of the ring when Aragorn is fighting the urak hai Captain, the shield that the orc rams into the tree, pinning Aragorn to it, damn near killed him (not to mention other incidences where people broke many bones on set, as well as rode their horses though desolate fields that appeared as such because the N.Z. Government uses that area as military practice/it was literally an uncleared minefield they were filming on…
But if that’s the case, we need more directors with balls like that, because to contrast any other LOTR/Tolkien adaptation that’s come since it’s like night and day 😢

They could have gotten better people to play the soldiers... or just spent at least a few days training the ones that would be in the primary shot. They didn't even know how to unsheathe their swords correctly and they had stupid looks on their faces. This is the only time I've really seen a flaw with LOTR and I had to look pretty damn close to see it. I can always write it off by thinking, "meh, they're conscripted farmers and they had zero time for training."

3:59 words to live by, if you cannot give out life, be careful about wishing death. Only those that can give life see those that truly deserve death. All other judgements are human and inherently flawed.

This is so why Rings of Power is trash. The neo revisionist state of media always stains what makes movies great. It is to inspire hope and not mongering.
