Last pay day me and hubby decided to order meat from local butcher to stick in freezer for the month . We spent around 80 pound , he made me gluten free burgers and sausages to order . Saved so much money on constant trips to super market and the quality of the meat is second to none . Support local for Better quality ,better value and not filled with water ! ❤

Never done a steak in the oven myself but then again I've never bought one that huge! Was skeptical at first but you've done a really good job with that! Keeping your seasonings simple is the best way to go - salt, pepper, fresh garlic and baste with butter... Keep up the good work matey!

Look up the reverse sear method mate. All the rage with chefs now, put it in the oven with a probe until its the desired doneness by temp, then sear for flavour. Much more even cook.

Ive only ever had a tomahawk steak once cooked medium rare , last November I ordered one from a restaurant to be delivered with chips and salad , I payed £19.99 for it , was cooked on the grill and it was glorious ! I’d have sawn the excess bone off, seasoned, hot fried in a pan to seal, then probably finished in the oven. After resting I’d have sliced reasonably thin slices and shared.
I’ve never cooked one and I’m not likely to but that did look mighty delicious.

Wholesale butchers are great, they sell at much cheaper prices but part of the reason for that is they don't hang their meat for long.
When I buy steaks from them I always remove the packaging as soon as I get it home, pat it dry then place in the fridge uncovered for at least a day, longer if possible. I do this to dry the meat and to let it relax.
Everyone assumes the redder and wetter the meat the fresher it is, which in theory it is but meat should be hung for a minimum of 21 days, the longer it's hung the more tender the meat will be. A steak really should be more of a purple colour and be very dry....that way even the lousiest of cooks produce melt in your mouth meat.

When I have any steak, I melt 1/4 of a stick of butter in the microwave, then stir in a tea spoon on garlic puree, then add some thyme, keep basting the steak on both sides as its cooking. I do it all the time, either in a pan or on the bbq.
Give it a whirl and let me know what you think 👍

Watching this on a Sunday morning after a long nightshift!! It looks absolutely gorgeous, just the right pinkness, just the right resting time. Never be afraid of the salt though. In my experiences, the reason why a steak tastes so good in a restaurant compared to a lot of home cooks is the amount of salt used. Salt is the secret, along with a hot pan or a hot oven. Another brilliant video, cheers fella!!

Another great review Gareth 👍👍. My local Lidl these steaks on a regular basis for around £15 to £15.99. I noticed that sometimes they call them " tomahawk " and also " cowboy " steaks. Apparently the name depends on how it has been trimmed, ( Frenched ). Last summer I got carried away and bought one for a BBQ. Needless to say it took forever to grill, even though I like rare steak. It was gorgeous but there was no way I could eat it all in one hit. Was it worth £15? Probably not for a BBQ because of the cooking time or if you aren't a big eater. But for flavour and texture I would give it 10/10. I still love a nice Sirloin steak as my steak of choice though. Like you, I love those burnt edges from beef. Lidl recently started selling packs of burnt ends, so I bought a pack. They were pure heaven to chow down on. 👍

Well now, that's a fine piece of meat you got there! You did a grand job in cooking it too. Once it reaches 55C it's fine to take out of the oven if you like it rare/medium as it continues to cook whilst it's resting. I think I paid about £14 or £15 a Kilo when I bought a rib roast. So it would certainly be cheaper to buy one of those with the bone still attached and cut your own Tomahawk steaks. I bet your wife was very pleased when she got home to make a sandwich from it - what a treat! 😋

Again fantastic cooking, must say very reasonable price for a tomahawk steak, there are some supermarkets that do these at times at a reasonable price. Aldi Lidl and few others do them. I have cut the bone down/back and then seared it in a griddle pan first, then put it in the oven in the past now I have done a few in a air fryer! While the steak was resting did fries and onion rings for the pair of us. What little that was left had a small sandwich each.Turned out pretty good. Keep up the great work.

Good afternoon I hope you don't mind me saying but wrap the bone in foil first and then sprinkle salt and pepper. If you can can Siri off into a frying pan the best you can and then you need to cook it in the oven with a loose bit of foil and then whack the heat up for the last 10 minutes to get a crispy outer coating. one rule of thumb I would give you you don't Pro it because it will let the natural juices out definitely rest it. That red liquid you see is just a combination of water and a protein called myoglobin. The iron inside this protein turns red in color when it is exposed to oxygen. but fab first try

That looks beautifully done. My mum cooked everything until it was bone dry, but that looks perfect.

Hi Gaz, you did a great job with that, I would have done it sous vide. Lovely cut of meat!

Look into Sous Vide cooking. Perfect for big cuts like that, impossible to mess up. Get a garden weed burner to add the flame sear after cooking.

Good effort, have you tried reverse sear? A big piece of meat like that would have been amazing.

You could do that in the oven first mate ( reverse sear) until around 50c and then put in the pan and baste with some butter Garlic and fresh Rosemary and Thyme

I got one from Tesco at Christmas I sawed most of the bone of so it would fit in my halogen oven, instructions said 5 mins per 100 grams for medium. It was great so I'm getting a couple for freezer as a treat.

Brother Gareth, at 66 years of age I haven't had a piece of meat like that. I'm happy you have. You are a good bloke. I'd have charred it on the coals. I was the one who told you about myoglobin long back.

Hi man, my general tip for you with big steaks is, sear them both sides in a frying pan, to get that browning, then finish them in the oven at about 180, And check with thermometer for desired doneness every couple of minuets. Enjoying the vids.!

People could of went fishing in that pothole, with a trawler.
Always wanted to do a Tomahawk but yet to pop my cherry, maybe this summer IF the weather improves this year up here in Scotlandshire.
    Interesting video fella.
    Thanks.

You got a good deal there. I just did a quick search of butchers in the Glasgow area, and anything in the 1.2 kilo range seem to be in the £27-£28 range. So £15 was a steal 👍
