Superman 2 ain't here. Is that coz it was released in the US in 81 or do you just not like it ? Because when I think of a film from 1980 that's the first that comes to mind.
@@thefan974 also...I've never seen it and don't imagine I would enjoy any of the Reeves movies. I never liked Superman until Man of Steel and those movies are incredibly dated.
It's widely stated amongst fans and movie critics that those films are dated. There's nothing hypocritical about acknowledging that and is a complete misuse of the word. I'm not insulting them by knowing my own taste and making an educated assumption that I won't enjoy them.
@Cody Leach Hardly an educated assumption, especially when the first one is about as much of a revered cult classic as it gets. Ur not acknowledging criticism rather you're being ignorant and ignoring the praise of these films. If you haven't watched any of these films you can't have an opinion on them .
Man this is an awesome list dont pay attention to the "I'm more intelligent " crowd bc they dont come to have a good time they have to "be right" lol Awesome video man!🤘🏻
If you do a 1981 list, give “Blow Out” a look. Maybe Travolta’s best 80s performance and De Palma’s tone is perfect. I didn’t see it myself until last year, and can’t believe I put it off so long.
The Shining will always be my favorite 1980 film, that movie is a masterpiece in my eyes. Kubrick and Nicholson truly created a timeless horror flick. Also, I would call this my favorite production design of all time, the way Kubrick constructed the hotel and the hedge maze: absolutely brilliant
You got me a moment with your little Friday the 13th gag, Cody. I actually really like the original film and consider it to be well above a lot of the slashers that followed it, but to each their own. Here's hoping that The Final Chapter will make it on your 1984 list.
"The Changeling" was also awesome! That scene where he comes home after tossing the ball off of the bridge & it comes bouncing down the stairs...Gives me chills every time!
10. Urban Cowboy. 9. Airplane. 8. Raging Bull. 7. Ordinary People. 6. Seems like old Times. 5. Dressed to Kill. 4. The Shining. 3. 9 to 5. 2. Caddyshack. 1. My Bodyguard. Love your show!
Fun fact: The Fog originally had nothing to do with fog but they had to adapt the film and script because John Carpenter was standing too close to the camera for most of the shots
The Changeling is also based off of a true story about a house that used to be in Denver, Colorado. The house has been torn down since then, but it's still part of Denver's haunted history.
For some reason i thought you had mentioned this was going to be an idea for next year but I guess I was wrong! What a nice surprise! Thanks for all the content brother! 🤘🤘🤘
1980 is like a mixture of the rise of blockbuster films and the then existing character driven arc movies that garnered wide release as well as movie studios starting to or comfortably release movies into theaters at wide release during its opening weekend
Great list , I love all the movies up here. One that would be on my list is one that my dad use to watch all the time its Used Cars with Kurt Russell. Its funny as hell, probably my top 5 movies of Kurt Russell's
New fan to you, but you’re analysis of Raging Bull, you sold me there. Love that you’re a real fan of films. Means a lot, super enjoy your content. Don’t change.
Love this review series. Great idea, Cody! Love this list. Here's mine. 1. Raging Bull 2. The Empire Strikes Back 3. The Shining 4. The Elephant Man 5. Urban Cowboy 6. Superman II 7. Caddyshack 8. Seems Like Old Times 9. Dressed To Kill 10. Friday The 13th Honorable mentions going to Where The Buffalo Roam, Popeye, and Stir Crazy.
Awesome video Cody! The Shining is my all-time favorite horror movie and Jack Nicholson was just brilliant in that film! I need to make a top movies of the decade list myself!
Seen 23 1980 movies. Top 10 out of this (in no particular order): -Any Which Way You Can -The Blues Brothers -The Elephant Man -The Final Countdown -Flash Gordon -Flying High (aka Airplane!) -Friday The 13th -Raging Bull -The Shining -Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back Others: Private Benjamin, Superman 2, Super Fuzz, Stir Crazy, Playing For Time, Northsea Hijack (aka Ffolkes), Killer Army (aka Da Sha Si Fang), The Octagon, Spetters, Used Cars.
1. The Empire Strikes Back 2. The Shinning 3. Caddy Shack 4. Mad Max 5. The Fog 6. Alligator 7. Maniac 8. The Changeling 9. Friday The 13th 10. Prom Night
Good to see The Changeling getting love. It's currently up on Tubi where I just rewatched it. I wish those crappy James Wan horror movies were half as good.
Great list Cory. We share some of those films. Im Scratching my head on Prom night though. It has its own style, is fun, but top ten? Hmm. 1. Empire strikes back 2. Dressed to Kill 3. Blues Bros. 4. Airplane! 5. The Shining 6. Used Cars 7. Airplane! 8. The Elephant man 9. Altered States 10. The Changeling Wow. Once again, we have similar tastes in film Cory. You are my doppleganger. If you haven't seen Altered States, please check it out. It's amazing.
Great top 10 list Cody. My top 10 are 1. The Shining 2. The Empire Strikes Back 3. Raging Bull 4. Friday the 13th 5. Dressed to Kill 6. Maniac 7. Mad Max 8. Cannibal Holocaust 9. The Fog 10. Motel Hell
That is a great list. A few of mine are up there. The 80s did have many classics; Aliens, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Robocop, The Fly... the Thing, Blade Runner, Raiders, ET, Predator, Scarface, Carlito's Way, Untouchables, First Blood, Conan, Terminator, Eoad Warrior, midnight run, Goodfellas, dang, it goes on and on.....
My list of the best movies of the 1980s, in no particular order: 1.) Baby, It's You 2.) Drugstore Cowboy 3.) Melvin and Howard 4.) Atlantic City 5.) Raging Bull 6.) Reds 7.) Roger & Me 8.) Blade Runner 9.) Full Metal Jacket 10.) Last Exit to Brooklyn 11.) Repo Man 12.) Raiders of the Lost Ark 13.) Empire Strikes Back 14.) River's Edge 15.) Risky Business
Great list. My personal favourite 10 are: 10 Stir Crazy 9 Maniac 8 Alligator 7 Private Benjamin 6 Terror Train 5 Dressed to Kill 4 The Shining 3 The Fog 2 Any Which Way You Can 1 Airplane!
Great vid, gotta catch up on Dressed to Kill and The Changeling for sure. Would've included Blues Brothers, Maniac and the Swedish classic Sällskapsresan myself lol
The Shining, The Fog, The Changeling, Friday the 13th, The Children, Dressed to Kill, Urban Cowboy, Prom Night, Terror Train, Motel Hell, The Elephant Man , The Big Red One, The Island, Popeye. Ordinary People, Empire Strikes Back, Caddyshack, Xanadu, Airplane!, Coal Mkner's Daughter, Brubaker. Just to name a few as the best, favorites (or highly entertaining, if all else) out of 1980.
Love The Shining. Huge nalstagic piece for me because the first time I watched it was after my grandpa rented it for me when I was home sick when I was young. And it just so happened to also be in the winter.
Congrats on 100K, Cody! Side note... I can't remember which video it was on, but within the past 2 months... you had a different guitar-based opening theme for one of your videos. I kinda liked it. :)
A pretty solid list here Cody. I've seen and own most of these movies except The Elephant Man. I've tried to watch it several times and just can't get through it. It's not often that a movie profoundly disturbs me, but this one does it. The cruelty and inhumanity imposed upon John Merrick is just heart breaking. Maybe because it's a true story is why I can't handle it. Masterful film making to be sure, but one that I have no desire to sit through.
I swear, when i saw Friday the 13th, i literally voiced 'what, no Empire'? You had me for a few seconds, nice. What gets me is that for all the movies ive seen in my life, and ive seen more than my fair share, theres still so many ive never seen. Thats half the movies on this years list! Anyway, bring on 1981!
1. The shining 2. Coal miners daughter 3. Raging bull 4. Cruising 5. Caddyshack 6. Empire strikes back 7. Friday the 13th 8. Prom night 9. Dressed to kill 10. The bodyguard Btw Cinderella man is the greatest boxing movie ever made. Cody gotta give us a top 10 for that lol
Awesome list! I was actually going to do a series very similar to this and I can say there’s probably only about 3 or 4 movies you mentioned that would be on my list but I still liked yours
Motel Hell is one of the best horror films ever. This was a great year for horror, The Shining, Friday the 13th, The Changeling, The Fog, Motel Hell, Dress to Kill, Ms. 45, Maniac, The Boogeyman, some of the best horror movies period.
I can't argue with your choices here. The Changeling scared the shit out of me one afternoon. I think it was on Dr. Paul Bearer's Creature Feature show that we used to get in Florida. Anyway, without rewatching any films and going on my memory this would be my top 10: 10. The Changeling 9. Popeye 8. Airplane 7. The Elephant Man 6. Flash Gordon 5. Caddyshack 4. Blues Brothers 3. Raging Bull 2. Empire Strikes Back 1. The Shining Honorable Mentions: Alligator, Friday the 13th (I knew that was BS! haha), Super Fuzz
The Shining was the best film in 1980s and one of the best of all time, timeless classic and a lot scarier than most movies ever due to the setting and the actors being so damn good.
Ha, you actually got me for a minute there with Friday the13th. Great list - I'd have a similar one but I would have to swap The Shining to first place.
Great year. The Fog, The Changeling, the Shining would probably top my list. Gotta rewatch alot from that year such as elephant man. I'd probably put Death Ship, F13, and Alligator on there to. Cannibal Holocaust for being extremely memorable
YO. I do agree with Empire Strikes Back. But don't forget these great comedies Airplane Blues Brothers Caddyshack and Used Cars. There's also the underaterd Urban Cowboy
Great idea. I rented most of these on VHS and enjoyed them all for the most part. Not the biggest fan of the first Friday the 13th but I'd still rank it above Prom Night. Fade to Black and Altered States are also some hidden gems from this period, although not exactly horror. My personal list would have included either The Shining or Elephant Man at #1. I can also recommend Caddyshack and My Bodyguard which still hold up very well today.
Raging Bull is the movie where I believe the Robert De Niro that we now nowadays ( you know brash, scenery stealing, tough guy attitude) was born. Fantastic performance and well deserving of his Oscar
Dress to Kill. When I finally got on the internet and had access to streaming files that was one of the first movies I bootlegged. When I tell you I was permanently scarred as a teenager from the elevator scene 😒
Awesome section of videos. I was born early 80’s. Very similar list 💪🏼 but I would definitely in my list add big trouble in little China. That movie changed my world haha and actually the first time I noticed a director seeing his name in a Halloween movie. I wondered why his name was in two movies. Now I know haha
And Based on some of the comments lol I agree alot of old Superman and even Batman is extremely dated. For as iconic as Superman 2 and Batman 89 are Comicbook films didnt get their breakthrough till Spiderman in 2002, iconic yes, but of the times definitely!
I don't know about the batman films but superman 2 is still pretty good and enjoyable. Also I think since in the 21st century we have the donner cut it's all the more useful.
I hoped this wasnt something that was gonna bring out the "um actually" crowd. Mad Max wasn't released in the US until 1980.
Superman 2 ain't here. Is that coz it was released in the US in 81 or do you just not like it ? Because when I think of a film from 1980 that's the first that comes to mind.

This is going to be a great series. The 80s is my favorite decade for movies and music.
Mine is Urban Cowboy

🤣
"The Changeling" was also awesome! That scene where he comes home after tossing the ball off of the bridge & it comes bouncing down the stairs...Gives me chills every time!
Happy to see that you enjoyed The Changeling! It's so classy and atmospheric, I adore that film.
10. Urban Cowboy. 9. Airplane. 8. Raging Bull. 7. Ordinary People. 6. Seems like old Times. 5. Dressed to Kill. 4. The Shining. 3. 9 to 5. 2. Caddyshack. 1. My Bodyguard.
Love your show!
Love this idea for a series Cody, keep up the great work. I appreciate the entertainment as always

Happy to see Raging Bull on here Cody. That movie doesn't get talked about enough and it's one of Scorsese's best. Great list!
You had me for a second there with Friday the 13th 😂
1980 is like a mixture of the rise of blockbuster films and the then existing character driven arc movies that garnered wide release as well as movie studios starting to or comfortably release movies into theaters at wide release during its opening weekend
It’s always a goo day when Cody posts a video
Been waiting on a series like this! Let’s goooo
Fantastic work as usual, I knew The Shining and Empire Strikes Back were gonna be in the top 3, 2 of some of the most iconic movies of all time
Liked hearing you give love to DePalma
Great idea for a series, bro. Keep doing this.
Great stuff! This reminds of the “favorite movie from each year I’ve been alive” video which was one of my favorites. Can’t wait for 1981!
Was a fun watch, appreciated hope you have a great week Cody
Killer list 👍 I just watched Dressed to Kill last night.
Great list , I love all the movies up here. One that would be on my list is one that my dad use to watch all the time its Used Cars with Kurt Russell. Its funny as hell, probably my top 5 movies of Kurt Russell's
I’m surprised Caddyshack and Airplane didn’t make the list. For me, they are not only the best comedies of 1980 but the best of all time.
See the movie Used Cars with Kurt Russell. Underrated masterpiece made by the team that made Back To The Future.
A couple of Christoper Reeve movies from 1980 were good Superman 2 and Somewhere in Time
As a kid I loved those 2 films
I didn't like Caddyshack at all and Airplane was fine but I'm not big on spoof comedy.
That’s fine. The best part of your ranking videos is how unpredictable they can get.
New fan to you, but you’re analysis of Raging Bull, you sold me there. Love that you’re a real fan of films. Means a lot, super enjoy your content. Don’t change.
Thank you
Love this review series. Great idea, Cody! Love this list. Here's mine.
1. Raging Bull
2. The Empire Strikes Back

4. The Elephant Man
5. Urban Cowboy
6. Superman II
7. Caddyshack

9. Dressed To Kill
10. Friday The 13th
Honorable mentions going to Where The Buffalo Roam, Popeye, and Stir Crazy.
Recommendations for ' 81 ? Quest for Fire, Outland and Taps
Stir Crazy was another super fun movie from 1980.
This will be a good theme for your videos! Can't wait til you do 1984
Really looking forward to this whole series. I need to catch up on a lot of 80's movies, and this will help me give property to some of them
The changeling is underrated!
THANK YOU FOR RELEASING SO MUCH CONTENT LATELY
Awesome video Cody! The Shining is my all-time favorite horror movie and Jack Nicholson was just brilliant in that film! I need to make a top movies of the decade list myself!
The Changeling and The Fog are probably my favorite ghost flicks of all time; and they both came out in 1980!
I love this idea! Your favorites of every year or decade sound very interesting
Seen 23 1980 movies. Top 10 out of this (in no particular order):

nah u gotta be 93
Glad to see The Changeling on your list. I have always liked this movie. Great list
The changeling is awesome. Creepy as fuck. Welcome to the party :)
If I take away one thing from this video, it's that your dad had a love for cinema and shared that with you growing up
1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. The Shinning
3. Caddy Shack
4. Mad Max
5. The Fog
6. Alligator
7. Maniac
8. The Changeling
9. Friday The 13th

Awww, man, I love the "Friday the 13th" joke😂🤣😂. I'm thinking, no way that's number 1. Lol
Good to see The Changeling getting love. It's currently up on Tubi where I just rewatched it. I wish those crappy James Wan horror movies were half as good.
IMO .
Changeling really is a good, old fashioned ghost story. It's a slow burn but effective .
Great list!
Ha - you got me with that Friday the 13th thing! My jaw literally dropped.
Great list Cory. We share some of those films. Im Scratching my head on Prom night though. It has its own style, is fun, but top ten? Hmm.

Carlito's way was 1993@@josephdarkhelmet9494
Loved the switch up and your list 😂
Thanks for the changeling I checked it out right after this review...
Can't believe I never heard of that one

Great list. My personal favourite 10 are:
10 Stir Crazy
9 Maniac
8 Alligator
7 Private Benjamin
6 Terror Train
5 Dressed to Kill
4 The Shining

Love the content as always!! Keep it up
Great vid, gotta catch up on Dressed to Kill and The Changeling for sure. Would've included Blues Brothers, Maniac and the Swedish classic Sällskapsresan myself lol
Cody, great top 10! Return of the Jedi was my favorite back in the day but now Empire takes that spot. The movie has aged like fine wine.
Happy 100k i subscribed after you reviewed Dexter New blood. One of the few content creators ive wanted to be a patreon for
I think I've only seen 4 from this year so I'll list those
4. Friday the 13th
3. The shinning
2. Airplane
1. Empire strikes back
I look forward to this series cody thanks. I have seen Mr. hat movie reviews do this series as well.
The Island and Terror Train are pretty underrated.
Forgot about Fade to Black...👍
Love the Trick Or Treat tshirt!! I worked in a theater when it opened!!! Great FASTWAY soundtrack!!
Motel Hell is a fun movie. Hypnotizing the people planted in the earth is awesome. Great finale too.
You got me on the Friday the 13th joke.
If you like The Changeling, I think you'll like Ghost Story. If you haven't seen it, check it out
A pretty solid list here Cody.
3. Raging bull
4. Cruising
5. Caddyshack
6. Empire strikes back
7. Friday the 13th
8. Prom night
9. Dressed to kill
10. The bodyguard
Btw Cinderella man is the greatest boxing movie ever made. Cody gotta give us a top 10 for that lol
I can’t wait until 1984 movies, a lot of good movies that year.
Stir Crazy with Richard Pryor & Gene Wilder was another super fun movie from 1980.
That one and Silver Streak (1976) are Pryor/Wilder comedy magic for sure.
@@LarryFleetwood8675 I'd never heard of Silver Streak. Will have to check that one out, thanks.
Awesome list! I was actually going to do a series very similar to this and I can say there’s probably only about 3 or 4 movies you mentioned that would be on my list but I still liked yours
Great list! The Changeling is definitely a hidden gem. For all you youngins’ who’ve never seen it, It’s currently FREE on Tubi. 🍿🥳🍿🥳🍿
Great idea for a series
Motel Hell is one of the best horror films ever. This was a great year for horror, The Shining, Friday the 13th, The Changeling, The Fog, Motel Hell, Dress to Kill, Ms. 45, Maniac, The Boogeyman, some of the best horror movies period.
Thanks for the great video.
Great list!😊
I can't argue with your choices here. The Changeling scared the shit out of me one afternoon. I think it was on Dr. Paul Bearer's Creature Feature show that we used to get in Florida.
Anyway, without rewatching any films and going on my memory this would be my top 10:
10. The Changeling
9. Popeye
8. Airplane
7. The Elephant Man
6. Flash Gordon
5. Caddyshack
4. Blues Brothers
3. Raging Bull
2. Empire Strikes Back
1. The Shining
Honorable Mentions: Alligator, Friday the 13th (I knew that was BS! haha), Super Fuzz
The Shining was the best film in 1980s and one of the best of all time, timeless classic and a lot scarier than most movies ever due to the setting and the actors being so damn good.
My own favourite theory about The Shining is that you can also view it as a western.
Motel Hell my dad took us to see this in the theater. I was 4
Ha, you actually got me for a minute there with Friday the13th.

I have the same top 2 in the same order. Great taste in movies man 👍
Raging Bull is the movie where I believe the Robert De Niro that we now nowadays ( you know brash, scenery stealing, tough guy attitude) was born. Fantastic performance and well deserving of his Oscar
I finally saw that movie this year an I was born in 1980 lol
Surprised Superman 2 didn't make the cut. Such a classic.
Didn't expect to see a David Lynch movie on your list but cool.
Empire Strikes Back
Caddyshack
Airplane!
The Shining
Dressed To Kill
Mad Max
Dress to Kill. When I finally got on the internet and had access to streaming files that was one of the first movies I bootlegged. When I tell you I was permanently scarred as a teenager from the elevator scene 😒
I guess because I saw Road Warrior first I had a hard time loving the original Mad Max and yes I LOVE Thunder Dome! 😆
Thunder Dome was the first one I saw first out of franchise

1980… what a year, I was three years old! Prom Night, what a gem. . . Jamie Lee Curtis doing her thing.
You legitimately fooled me with the Friday the 13th fake out. 😂
Good list lot of classics
Cody you should do a review on the stepfather series
