    Just got K5 pro recently.
    Feel a bit wobbling as your K5SE does, but spacing with arrow keys and npads is my priority.

      That extra comfort/confidence with the arrow keys & numpad can definitely be a deciding factor!

      yup, nuphy is quality but why mess with the age-old layout, thumbs too fat to hit the single space 0 key on number pad. Cannot do real work requiring numbers like that. @@semiprotech

    My only worry is that there’s no notch or open space at all to blindly locate the arrow or num pad keys - which many 96%s do feature. But the Air96 is just so damn beautiful! And everyone who has it seems to love it. I’m strongly leaning towards getting it

    • @semiprotech
      @semiprotech  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup, the spacing (or lack thereof) around the arrow keys is what throws me off. I didn't find the numpad too bad to adjust to but I wish they put a tactile bump on the up arrow keycap like someone else commented, that would have made it much easier to identify without looking. But between using the Air96 and Halo96 I'm hoping it becomes muscle memory.

    I spent hours researching Keychron before realizing they're BT only and *_no_* 2.4ghz on *_any_* model, which is a straight up dealbreaker.
    If you want wireless but need to rely on the keyboard being 100% responsive at 90+wpm and always active/ready to go then you absolutely can't have the bluetooth powering up and reconnecting for 30+ seconds every single time you walk away and it goes to sleep.

    • @semiprotech
      @semiprotech  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree the 2.4GHz connection is a significant benefit and if I'm not using the wired connection, that's the primary connection that I use with my NuPhy keyboards. I'm not sure why Keychron chooses not to include it, because it would really make their feature-set hard to beat.

    96% does not make sense to me, I would either good 70/75% with a separate numpad or 100%. 96% does not save that much desk space but it will cause a lot of inconvenience and reduce my productivity. I don't wanna change my typing style and reduce typing speed or increase typos but just i hit arrow instead of 0

    I got the the nuphy air 96 and it's a little too compact for me, I can't get used to the layout. It's quite hard to use the arrows without looking and it's annoying me. I should have bought the keychron k5 pro.

    • @semiprotech
      @semiprotech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my opinion that really is the only significant downside to the Air96...if you are comfortable with the spacing of a 100% layout, adjusting to 96% can be tough. I swapped the keycaps on the arrow keys so that the up arrow has a tactile bump on it (keychron low profile keycaps). Of course it doesn't look as nice, but at least I can feel which key is the up arrow without looking. Would have been nice if the NuPhy keycaps included that.

    Just got the Air 96 last week and love it. After I preferred the air96 I had tried Razer’s low profile gaming keyboard in their store and got worried. It felt wobbly and thin sounding.
    Fortunately the air 96 feels and sounds very different.
    I got the Daisy switches, which I’m very happy with, but I’m curious to try the Wisteria for that tactile feel.

    • @semiprotech
      @semiprotech  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Glad to hear it! I'm still very happy with the Air96 as well. I have the wisterias in my Air75 right now and they definitely are different than low profile brown switches. The actuation force is just a tad lighter and the bump is much earlier than a brown switch. They seem to be a bit quieter as well. There's a sound clip of them at the end of my full Air96 review video if you want to take a listen: th-cam.com/video/mZ3pZxmrRIU/w-d-xo.html

    solid review - lacking one important factor tho: keychron is always one step ahead in regards to cleaning. Since they don't have a border you can (AND SHOULD) brush it and clean it with an air duster much better.

  • @elmariachi5133

    From what I saw in the store, with the K5 SE you get choice between *five* different *optical* switches AND an *three mechanical* switches on top. And ALSO you get a standard layout with the NUM, CAPS and SCROLL indicator leds at the right place, while these are weird positioned on the K5 Pro.
    So.. woouldn't the SE be the much better choice.. especialyl if you simply don't need key remapping? Also, on Linux you can usually remap keys anyway.
    I want to buy a ew keyboard soon .. so I wonder: Am I misunderstanding something here, or don't all these reasons make the K5 SE the better choice?

  • @thornea7015

    Doesn't the wobbling come from the fact that the keys have some space? I have the same with my Logitech G915.

    I have the Air96. Although I love the keyboard overall, having the arrow keys without any space is hard for me. It's hard to move my hand to the keys without looking and getting exactly at the right spot.
    I think that this could be resolved if I use keycaps that are slightly taller than the original, so I could feel the difference when moving my hand.
    Do you know if I can use keychron's keycaps on the air 96 and if they'll create this slight difference?

    • @semiprotech
      @semiprotech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great idea! I had a set of white PBT Keychron keycaps laying around so I swapped the arrow keys out. These particular ones don't create any height difference however they have a tactile bump on the up arrow which I think would help! Thanks for the comparison! I was curious about the size difference, one thing that few people are mentioning is a lack of ergonomics with 100% layout (or maybe just I haven't considered it before buying the K5) - When I rest my hands in an optimal position for typing, I feel like the mouse should be placed cca where the numpad is, so I'm always in kinda awkward position, where either the keyboard or the mouse is out of comfortable reach.

    • @semiprotech
      @semiprotech  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting! I never really experienced an uncomfortable position with a 100% in my keyboard tray, but I see what you mean about having to move your arm to reach for your mouse or back to the keyboard. My biggest complaint with 100% was that I would always be hitting my mouse into the side of the keyboard when navigating across my dual monitors. The Air96 is only a couple inches shorter than a 100% but it has made a difference for me in being able to comfortably navigate around with my mouse. I do occasionally miss the space around the arrow keys but otherwise very happy with the more compact size!

    Good day , I have a macbook, also have an 27 inch 4k monitor shipped to my place already, need a low profile keyboard, and so as you praise the Nuphy air96 ... thought maybe to pick that one with brown switches for low sound when typing.... so but wanted to ask if they are easy to switch from macbook to pc and oposite quickly ? and does the connection stays stable usually ? I was thinking to buy the K5 Pro, but found your comparison.... hm, now i think maybe its better for me to pick the nuphy ... the only con is the lack of software on mac though. thanks much

    • @semiprotech
      @semiprotech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! It's very easy to switch between mac and pc, on the back next to the power/connection switch there is an OS switch. If you have them both connected via wireless, you would just press the key command to switch devices and then the OS switch to change the layout. I switch back and forth between mac and pc as well and it's very simple. It's the same process for both the K5 and the Air96. The Air96 connection over bluetooth has been stable for me but the 2.4GHz doesn't go to sleep ever which is great, so I use that one on the computer that I use less often. Bluetooth stays connected well on my primary computer because I use it a lot throughout the day, and then when I switch to the 2.4GHz (Fn+4) it's immediately connected on the other computer.

    Keycron prices surprised me by how not absurd they are. Any brands that had name recognition by the time I got into this seemed to be completely priced gauging everyone over like the smallest feature or improvement and KeyCon doesn't do that. So I'm kind of like becoming an instant fan just because it's not unreasonable, what they're charging.
    I mean just the amount people will pay for GMK keycaps even though you can get clones of them that are literally the same thing for like $20 and they're paying $500 on eBay for it. That s*** is ridiculous.
    And keyboards, ibviously a lot of them market themselves on aesthetic alone. So when I see the NUPHY air, and it has a really good aesthetic and they're advertising has a really good aesthetic, my assumption was that it has to be b*******
