Primus Business Management CEO Janneh Wright Speaks About Achieving 20 Years in Business

TAPintoTV’s Executive Producer, Brian Brodeur, spoke with Janneh Wright, CEO and Founder of Primus Business Management, about what they do and their 20th anniversary.
Primus Business Management specializes in helping small-to-medium-sized businesses focus on their core mission by outsourcing operational management like administration, accounting, finance business strategy, and human resources. “Our goal is going inside organizations and helping owners grow out their business, giving the owner more time to refocus on why they started the business and leaving some really good practical transactional work to the outside specialist,” Wright said.
Wright added that many businesses can become stuck in a recording rut. “If as a business owner you have time to sit and do your books every single week, then something is wrong,” Wright explained. “You’re not focused on growing your business...Our job is to help you record your business.”
Wright’s clients include nonprofits and for-profit businesses, but they have one thing in common. The people who call Primus are all aggressive, forward-looking business owners. “They realize the way we talk about accounts and HR is not transactional. It’s about the advice and the growth for your company,” Wright said.
When Brodeur asked Wright about a typical client’s experience at Primus, Wright explained the experience is a very interconnected working partnership. “This is not an old school way of thinking where I talk to you once a month, or you get a quarterly financial report. You will get live information as much as possible,” Wright said.
Founded in 2002, Primus Business Management is entering its 20th year of business--a feat less than 30 percent of businesses accomplish since about 50 percent of businesses fail after five years. What does Wright credit their success to? One key Wright notes is the marriage of knowledge and technology.
“I think today people see technology as the front of what businesses are supposed to do. I see technology as the assistant,” Wright said. With a deep understanding of accounting, human resources, and administration, Wright and his team created procedures, systems, and protocols that leverage technology to enhance a business. “For us, technology is not first. The knowledge base of what we do comes first, and technology has helped us enhance that work,” Wright said.
What do the next 20 years look like for Primus? “The path is exciting,” Wright explained. “We’ve created a website, Primus Perc (Primus Executive Reporting and Consultation Program). With this program, you get an hour and a half advisory with a team leader, which allows you to meet once a week, semi-monthly, or monthly. You get an online dashboard of KPIs, so you can see your cash flow rates, your running rate, your burn rate, the profitability margins. These are the kinds of things that turn you from a level-headed business owner to a firm business owner.”
