Same as what I found in the SRC bolt I mentioned in the other comment - a short, weak spring. Wilson Combat has an OEM do their BCG's. It's the OEM that is installing the cheaper springs. I've had the best results with Microbest BCG's that are sold by resellers that specify Sprinco springs in them. Arftac is a good one, specifically their "+" items.
I have a few from MicroBest and usually the chrome extends around the front of the carrier. The chrome on the WC's ends right at the edge of the internal bolt opening so I don't think the WC's are MicroBest. They're finished okay although the staking on the brand new one is a little weak. Other than Toolcraft one of the other larger BCG makers that I know of is Azimuth. Wherever WC is getting them from they need much better QC before they put their logo on them! Thanks Billy!
AO Precision and Microbest are .gov/.mil suppliers. Azimuth and Toolcraft have had contracts in the past. Toolcraft screwed the pooch during the GWOT. Cage code 1b1b6 was recalled. Azimuth supplied the bolts. I bought 10 of the military contract overrun AO Precisions at $69.00 apiece a few years ago. I bought the gauge set from Wil Larson at Semper Peratus. All those AO Precisions were damn near perfect. As far as chrome goes I think the best were Smith Enterprise. I have two. I have a weird obsession with BCG's.
Not to long ago, WC was selling "blem" chrome carriers that were very out of spec. They claimed it was only cosmetic boems, but it was pure bs. Not to fond of some of the recent qc shenanigans, wich is why nomatter how much or little something costs, Chad from SOTAR is always recommending to check everything. Just because somethings expensive doesn't mean its good.
Yes! These days you can leave no stone unturned! With firearms it has to be right! Unfortunately more and more manufacturers seem less concerned about people's safety!
Yep! This kind of stuff is really getting old! I know enough to usually get things figured out but I'm becoming more and more frustrated with these companies never ending lack of QC! WC just went on the list even if that ejector spring is not the entire issue!
@@peteregger7928 Yeah there was some big stink about them selling BCGs listed as “blems” a little bit ago. And they ended up being non functional and WC was like “they’re blems what did you expect?” I have personally had no real issues with AO Precision (different company than Aero Precision). Out of 3 BCGs I got one with the ejector roll pin that was a little too proud but a quick smack with a punch made it flush and that’s that. It’s usually what I go with now.
@@rifleshooterchannel208 Thanks! Here's the list of what I won't use again! ToolCraft, Aero Precision and now Wilson Combat! Didn't hear about the WC Blem issue and have had good luck with them in the past. As of today... done with them! I'll take a look at AO Precision. Thanks!
No manufacturer is perfect, but if I had to bet my life on an out of the bag part being reliable and within spec, I would trust only Colt. More and more I find that the modest savings from buying bargain parts cost more aggravation in the long run. And that’s before you even get into the pride of knowing that you bought a reputable product regardless of what fanboys claim about their favorite brand. Working for a manufacturer and understanding supply chain, parts are not parts, and there’s simply no such thing as “as good as.”
@@C2Installations I have purchased a few of the newer Colt BCG's with the dot Matrix "C" and have a number of older ones with the stamped "C" and so far I have never had an issue with anything marked Colt. My older WC's are working well and I've had no issues... until now! For me personally I only get burned once and then that's it! I have a very long memory! Lol!
A bit surprising for a WC BCG, but that _was_ what the ejection pattern suggested. Good job. That's a handy tool from WW. 👍 I look forward to your next test video. I bet that rifle slings the brass into the next zip code now. And, Pete, you may want to run the buffer test again. I have found an H2 to be best for carbine builds, but you had two issues going on with that rifle. But hey, that's the fun of building your own, right?
Thanks Gary! I think so! I'll know for sure early next week when I get it back out for more testing. I'll keep the H2 installed to start with but I did remove the O-ring. That's really the positive to all this! I'll have a solid rifle when it's all done! Buying a complete rifle from anyone these days is a real crap shoot. Most likely you will be troubleshooting anyway or sending it back to the manufacturer. To the best of my ability it will be right when Im done.
Been thinking of BCM next! Don't often hear about problems with them! For the Retros' I've been building lately I've been looking for non-logo phosphates which I don't think BCM offers but maybe I missed it?
Check the one on the selector switch under the grip as well. I've heard of people shortening those a tiny bit to loosen the stiffness on the switch. Not sure I'd recommend doing that, but it is a thing. But I could see using a broke in one from an old BCG for the same trick since it's the same spring.
That spring was a Giessele on this build that came with the ambi selector. I didn't check it but it feels decent after about 20 actuations (break-in). Moves easily from both sides with no slop. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I left a comment on your previous video. Any chance you would mail me those springs to test on my spring tester? That would require you to go dumpster diving I know lol.
Hey Pete! I see that your friend at "AR tips and tricks in 15 minutes or less" did a test on an out of spec ejector spring. Seems like that short spring cost about 30% of the spring force. He also didn't have much good to say about Springco ejector springs. 🤷♂
So If You Pull Out Your Selector Spring Pete and Measure It Wonder If Aero’s Parts Kit You Used Has The Correct Size and Coils Like The Springco’s 😮😀😊 Just Out of Curiosity 😀 Nice Find Pete
Did that take care of your ejection? I figured the ejector spring was junk from when I watched the video yesterday and commented that the spring was junk
I just remove the extractor o ring immediately from new BCGs, it's not necessary with a good guide and spring. I put it in my cleaning kit sandwiched between a folded over piece of clear tape just in case
I don't think they're needed for the kind of shooting I do. Can't remember exactly when they were introduced to make burst/full auto more reliable. Maybe when the M4 or M4A1 first came out? None of my Colt AR's had them installed back in the late 80's or even the very early 90's.

How is the bolt marked? That will give a good indicator of the OEM.
@@DutchK75... I read good things about AO Precision for money also.
Great to hear that you got the problem fixed!!
